6% of daily COVID-19 test results positive

| 08/12/2021 | 62 Comments

(CNS): There were just 70 new cases of COVID-19 reported on Tuesday, two of which were in travellers, after test numbers doubled from those conducted on Monday. But the proportion of positive cases fell from around 11.5% in yesterday’s report to less than 6% over the last 24 hours. This is the lowest rate since the start of the month, though it has been as high as 15% over the last week and may not yet singnal a true decline in transmission.

In today’s report from Chief Medical Officer Dr John Lee, as at 8am Wednesday, there were 3,513 active cases of the virus, ten of which are on Cayman Brac. Fifteen patients are currently admitted to the hospital and the death toll remains unchanged at nine. The total number of cases recorded since the start of the pandemic is 7,794 and 4030 people are currently in isolation.

58,300 people (82% of the estimated population) has had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. 56,339 (79%) have had two shots and 12,866 people (18%) have now had a booster.

@10:24, well, I caught the Covid and I was not vaccinated, and will never be. I live a very healthy active lifestyle. My philosophy is you are what you eat. And if you can’t obey the health and moral laws of the Source, whose fault is it? Will you rather live a bad lifestyle and promote getting vaccinated all your life??? It makes no sense not to walk the narrow way. When I was sick, I never needed any of the drugs you mention to get better. I placed my trust in divine wisdom. I just took some paracetemol for pain, high doses of vitamin D and zinc, and I took quercetin. I drank bush teas with garlic and ginger, and a good friend offered me Ivermectin. And in one week’s time I kid you not, I was recovered. I am a Caymanian in my 40’s. I didn’t need to see Dr. Lee or the hospital either. It just upsets me when someone comes to me and say I was lucky, as if I’m not responsible for my health and the results of my health! I just look at them with pity… I bet these are the same people who will go and vaccinate their healthy children because their idol, the great government said they must fo it! These are the same sheep who are scared to be censored, deleted from society, because they have no faith, no courage! Sad :/

Glad you didn’t overdose on ivermectin. So odd you people will put that into your system when you have no parasites but you won’t get a life saving vaccine. You people are realllllly special.

      @7:30am

Wouldn’t it be nice if everybody that caught covid was as lucky as you.

I lost my brother last year. He was 25 years old, an athlete in his best shape, the essence of the picture of health. He left behind 2 young children 2 and 4 years old. My parents and my sister in law as well as myself begged him to get vaccinated. He refused saying the same old foolishness that you are saying right now, “I am young and healthy, I’m not putting any poison in my body.” He just wouldn’t listen. he was young and invincible and in his mind, covid was just a flu and nothing for him to worry about.

He caught covid at an office party and 2 days later was hospitalized and put on a ventilator as he gasped for air. He passed just 5 days after being diagnosed. To say this was devastating for my entire family is saying the least. My two nephews will never really know their Dad and my broken hearted sister in law has been left to take care and support them on our home. My parents had to bury their first-born from something that could have easily have been prevented.

Walk a day in my shoes, watch a loved one suffer from covid and quickly wither away on ventilator and die without even being able to say good bye then talk to me about being healthy and drinking bush teas and ivermectin. You were lucky, that’s all. My brother was the picture of health and covid took him away from us. You were just plain lucky and it hurts families like mine to hear you down play this as nothing.

Vaccines were barely available last year much less to 25 year olds, I therefore call bs on your entire story. Pretty disgusting to tell such a lie.

      • Anonymous says:

4:17, I’m so sorry to hear this about your brother. Many people just want to believe that covid doesn’t kill and it is simply because they don’t care as long as it is not them or one of their family members.

For all of those that gave the thumbs down to your heartfelt post, I say shame on you. How cruel. My sympathies to you and your family.

20,000,000 infections in the US in 2020.
    US Covid deaths 2020 370,000
US Case fatality rate 2020 1.8%

30,000,000 infections in the US in 2021.
    US Covid deaths 2020 444,000
Case fatality rate 2021 1.5% (lower by a whopping .3%)

200,000,000 people in the US were fully vaccinated.

96,000 lives saved if you give 100% of the credit to vaccines. But then if you consider unvaccinated deaths are supposed to occur at 11 X the rate, you would expect to see about 444,000-96,000 X 11 = 3,828,000 unvacinated deaths. So something is wrong with the wonderful science.

I think something is wrong with the math.

      Maybe 96k X 11

      1056000 not 3M.

      Still doesn’t add up though.

      • Anonymous says:

Do you understand that vaccinations did not all magically occur on January 1st? Because of this your calculations are useless.

Few other issues with your math and logic but you don’t really want to listen to that do you.

    • Bluey says:

Death rates are 3 times higher in Republican voting districts than Democrat ones. Every cloud, as they say.

    • Anonymous says:

If this is an attempt at diminishing vaccine impact you’re an idiot. Look around the world.., the deaths are always unvaccinated amongst the otherwise healthy

    • Anonymous says:

???? You take the total death number, knock off a number of people you say might have died but for vaccination, then multiply that by 11 to find some “missing” unvaccinated deaths? The 440K number is the total number of deaths, including the un vaccinated. Multiplying that is meaningless. You either need to know what proportion of the 440K deaths were vaccinated to see if the 11x is accurate, or if you accept the 11 x is accurate you can divide the 440K by 12 to find the number of possible vaccinated deaths. Either of those approaches has logic. Yours has none. It not the maths that is the problem here, it’s your comprehension.

    • Anonymous says:

This is a perfect example of the ability to misunderstand and / or misrepresent statistics.

You are making the assumption that death rates should, without the vaccine, have remained at a steady 1.8%, when in actual fact, due to variants and other factors it could well have increased substantially.

The better way to compare the impact of vaccines on death rates is, well, you know, to compare the death rates between the vaccinated and the unvaccinated NOW – with all the other factors as consistent as possible.

But then I suspect you knew that already.

      • Anonymous says:

Vaccines don’t save unvaccinated people, so how do you account for the CFR being reduced from 1.8 to 1.5? Giving full credit to vaccines (very generous) is how you come up with 96000 saved lives when compared to the previous year when there were no vaccines.

According to the article unvaccinated people are 11 times more likely to die when infected with Covid. So for every 1 vaccinated life saved 11 unvaccinated people would have to die if the article is correct. 96000 saved lives X 11= 1056000 million unvaccinated deaths. That would invalidate the statistics and nobody believes 1056000 died of covid in the US in 2021. Or as @8:30 said divide the death count 440000 by 11 to find vaccinated deaths 40000. 40000 doesn’t account for a .33 reduction in CFR rate. So if you want to say that vaccines reduced the CFR less than .33% even with 200000000 million people vaccinated, I won’t disagree. Or if you want to say that the article stating 11 unvaccinated people die for every vaccinated person is wrong then I won’t disagree with that either. But taking into account the article and the CFR statistics, efficacy looks far lower than advertised when you start giving CFR reduction credit to things that have nothing to do with vaccines. No matter which way you look at it, the astro turfing narrative behind vaccines is strong and effective.

On the other side of the ledger you have vaccines harms which you are going to learn so much about very soon.

    • Caymanian says:

Yeah these calculations tend to point to a specific point in time while vaccinations are even now still ongoing.

And exactly how do you get to 96,000 lives saved?

Because if you say infections were 30mil and only 444k died then is it 29.6 mil saved??? Not sure where you come up with the 96k at all.

  6. C'Mon Now! says:

Hopefully the drop-off in test positivity continues and is a signal that we are running out of easily infected hosts.

The combination of infections, vaccination and people taking sensible precautions will eventually lead to the current wave burning out. The open question is how long this will take and what the baseline level of infection will be going forward and if future waves can be mitigated.

Remember John Lennon, the guy who pissed off all the Christians with his song “Imagine”?
Just for the record, I agree with him, religion sucks. Most people have one.

If he was alive today, he’d probably have something to say.

    Let me quote John Lennon.

“Our society is run by insane people for insane objectives. I think we’re being run by maniacs for maniacal ends and I think I’m liable to be put away as insane for expressing that. That’s what’s insane about it.”

Where does Cayman stand on monoclonal antibody treatments?

Alaska, is offering the COVID-19 treatment to anyone who tests positive for the virus who might have a higher risk of suffering from severe COVID-19 symptoms…the treatment is a lab grown monoclonal antibody infusion that works to boost your immune system in order to help fight off a COVID-19 infection and help keep people out of the hospitals. The appointment from start to finish takes approximately two hours and because the facility is being funded by the state, it is free of charge. The treatment can be administered intravenously or subcutaneously.
The list of conditions that put a patient at high risk for serious COVID-19 illness has largely remained the same since the beginning of the pandemic.
The facility will be open for as long as there is demand, Powell said. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. No referral is needed from a doctor, but an appointment must be made ahead of time.

We prefer Remdisivir ($3000) and acetemetaphine, the first does almost nothing (19% effective) but luckily acetemetaphine does almost nothing also.

Do some research, not every doctor in Cayman is a blind idiotic drone marching in lockstep.

    • Anonymous says:

I believe I read that health city are offering the treatment.

    • Anonymous says:

Health City has these. Problem is that people who are afraid of the vax are unlikely to agree to be infused for half an hour for a few days.

monoclonal antibody are useful for those that are not allowed vaccination for medical reasons.

The issue is that a treatment can cost CI$3,000 just for the meds.
Vaccination twice + booster costs $20-$30.

So when those who choose not to be vaccinated get the treatment it is all of us that are paying, unless they pay the difference

So the big news today is,,,

    – Omicron Is protected against with a booster
    – UK announce plan b – vaccine passports essentially

When will cayman get a grip, and only allow the vaccinated to be in bars, restaurant, cinema, shops and other places?

Cayman will wait to see what happens in the U.K. Vaccine passports haven’t worked successfully in any country so far and after the Christmas Party revelation, the Brits are having none of it. The last shred of credibility from the UK Gov has well and truly gone. I did my bit, am double vaxxed and just got my booster. I am furious and will not go along any of this anymore. Rules for thee and not for me. Enough is enough.

        • Anonymous says:

8:20 I’m in the same boat. Have complied with all the rules and regulations and just got my booster as well. But enough is enough. Getting really sick of all of this now. This is no way to live. The UK government and our own can forget it if they are trying to impose more restrictions on us. People have had enough

    • Anonymous says:

Won’t happen – too many anti-vaxxers are voters. All you can do is go to the places that charge $15 a drink. For the most part, the level of education of anti-vaxxers precludes them from affording those places. There are exceptions like elected officials, senior civil servants and silent partner business owners, but they tend to hang out in different places that are usually staffed with young, pretty, Latina women.

    • Weck says:

Except the UK did not introduce passports for bars, pubs etc because the incompetent Prime Minister did not want to annoy basic Brexit voters. He only announced Plan B as a distraction from his Partygate crisis.

    • Caymanian says:

ACTUALLY…Omicron is not a “Booster” but a third shot. It’s not the same they are saying. It’s not like “I did my 2 shots and my booster so I am okay”. No. You need a special third shot.

      • py says:

Omicron is a mew variant of the disease covid 19. Boosters are yet to be modified. It takes over 3 months to do this. However a third shot can give you about 75% protection without it you are pretty much unprotected. Get that booster shot now.

Truly, I appreciate the update… But CIG has no idea of how to manage it’s affairs with Covid. Pathetic. But, our electorate put the donkeys in charge.

    • Anonymous says:

Interesting how there are as many dislikes as likes. The statement was blunt, but accurate; the evidence of the dislikes proves the point – the electorate has no business electing officials. Cayman, you are a mess.

    • Anonymous says:

The pandemic is being managed with advice from the same people who advised the previous government. Maybe both governments were made up of donkeys?

      • Caymanian says:

Two people can get the same advice and execute it totally different either by design (the way they chose to do it) or default (they simply are piss poor at executing).

In more easier to understand terms. You tell two runners how you go about winning a race. You are one of them and the other is Usain Bolt. Who wins?

It’s one thing to now how to do something and a completely different thing on how to execute it.

    • Anonymous says:

It’s being managed better than locking us up. It would be managed better if it was all done away with. Get vaxxed or possibly get axed.
