(CNS): The Ministry of Planning, Agriculture, Housing and Infrastructure (PAHI) has confirmed that the annual National Community Enhancement Project (NiCE) will take place next month, offering unemployed Caymanians just under three weeks of work before Christmas. The programme starts on 6 December and ends on 23 December, and the deadline for applications is Wednesday, 1 December.

The work involves the cleaning and maintenance of the roadside, parks, cemeteries and beaches. This year participants in the project will be required to undergo rapid lateral flow COVID-19 tests throughout their involvement in the programme.

“Given the economic challenges resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and the additional financial strains that the holiday season can pose, it is good we can put people to work,” said Planning Minister Jay Ebanks, who is responsible for the programme.

“The Public Works Department, which is overseeing the project, will ensure the work teams engaged in NiCE wear masks, adhere to proper hygiene practices and social distancing protocols. The safety of the crews is very important to us,” he added.

Application forms are available at all district libraries, MP offices, the Needs Assessment Unit, WORC and the public reception at the Government Administration Building.

Completed application forms must be placed in the NiCE drop boxes at the district public libraries, WORC or the Government Administration Building.

Alternatively, they can be emailed to NCEP@gov.ky or send via WhatsApp to 917-0153, no later than noon on Wednesday, 1 December.

I think that they should have start this from October and then do the bulk waste pick up after so nothing is missed and the street would be cleaned but doing this after the bulk waste for Christmas there will be stuff left on the streets. Also the cleaning could have been done before we opened our border. The road that are so bad should have been repaved before we reopened. Lots could have been done so when we reopened it beautiful. Just say…

See, because it has been done over the past decade or so (regardless of whether it was originally necessary or fiscally prudent) PACT will continue this practice without question. It is clearly a vote-getter and Cayman’s entire political “system” is based on that type of populism. Hand out mentality in action!!

Meanwhile…..back at HM Prison Northward, ALL prisoners including “lifers” are sitting in AC lounge watching TV, talking on cell phones, eating restaurant-quality food, getting fat and coming out with prison tans and never struck a lick of hard work as punishment!

    La La Land!!

Any of you sitting in judgement willing to work the roads for the same amount of money? Why not? You already have a job? Good for you.

I think we should fund this all year around, as they do in the Brac. I was driving in the Brac a month ago, and you can see the difference; the roadsides are tidy and neat and it looks like they give a damn.

Cutting bush and roadside cleanup isn’t for everyone. Those who are willing to do it should be funded to continue it all year, imo.

Kudos to those hungry for work. There is more than enough undone Public Works, beautification, and enhancement shortfall to make this a year-round crew. We’ve had almost 2 years of downtime to prepare for return of tourism, and almost nothing was organised and done in that time, even while paying tourism stipends to dead-end business owners that didn’t want to accept free professional retooling.

Wearing a mask when working outside should not be a requirement.

You all need to stop being so bad minded towards Cayman and it’s people, I bet majority if not all commenters here on CNS drifted here(including the paper caymanians)seeking peace and tranquility away from whatever shithole they spawned from not knowing it’s that same bad mind and hateful mentality that caused the reason for their exile here in the first place, in paradise where you don’t have to worry about being murdered in your sleep for your hard earnings.
Anyways please don’t come hear with your shithole mentality Cayman is still a very nice place and the caymanians are very passive people, so please just stay humble and enjoy life.

The “unemployed” that are already collecting stipends should be doing this (for no extra)

How about fixing the park in prospect that was never finished then the hurricane knocked over the poorly constructed cabanas. Hey Alden, you awake?

If the safety of their crews were of any legitimate concern, they would mandate that they be fully vaccinated prior to being hired.
