(CNS): Government’s management of the COVID-19 pandemic had another hiccup Wednesday, when the Health Services Authority announced the temporary closure of the vaccine clinics after supplies of the Pfizer shots ran out. Officials said this was due to the “success in the uptake” over recent weeks but did not explain why replacement supplies were not here sooner given the popularity of the booster.

A new batch of 11,700 vaccines from the UK is expected on the British Airways flight on Friday, according to the governor’s office. This means the clinics will not reopen now until Tuesday morning to allow time for transport, logistics and cold chain quality assurance of the new shots. The new vaccine schedule will be released later this week.

According to statistics released Wednesday, as at 8am on Tuesday, 118,285 COVID-19 vaccinations have been administered since the programme started at the beginning of the year, and over 15,800 of them have been administered since the news of the community outbreak in September. There have also been 6,323 booster shots given since that programme began on 21 September.

Currently 57,105 people, or 80% of the population estimated at 71,106, have had at least one vaccine shot and 54,857 individuals, or 77%, have completed the two-dose course.

Have you considered that you may have run out of vaccines because you have been giving them to children in express contravention of U.K. policy? That’s not who they were sent for.

Lots of people freaking out in the comments even though the shots will resume next week? I get being disappointed in PACT but this really isn’t a big deal

Night and day the difference between the vaccination clinic at the airport and The Lions Centre.

The airport was well run, organised, fast… Lions is a cluster with no social distancing, no clear line up or check in, and on Monday and Tuesday this week clearly overrun with people.

I hope they have a re-think by next Tuesday.

Boosters in the afternoon only and first and second shots anytime might be a start.

A-L, M-Z days for boosters, first and second shots any day.

Think back to when we closed the grocery stores for a couple of days there was a mad rush on opening day.

Get the lions centre under control of half the country will show up there come Tuesday morning.

Yes, people have left Lions Centre without getting their vaccine, because of the lack of social distancing. It’s ironic that the vaccine centre could be a super spreader place!
How about staying open late to accomodate people’s schedules and reduce panic, rather than the other way around? We have 1 ventilator patient now, let’s do our best to keep it at that.

The government is clearly not prepared to open the borders on November 20, 2021. They will nonetheless go ahead and honor their commitments to the big entities within the tourism sector irrespective of what is happening on the ground.

The reality at this stage is that the level of incompetence is simply beyond what anyone could reasonably be expected to correct at this point in time.

pact-bots out in force this morning.

So in summary we have no vaccine, no LFTs available, thousands upon thousands in quarantine, a tiny staff available to exit test, and chaos in schools and businesses.

I hesitate to say this in these terms, and I apologize in advance for the nature of the language, but we are being governed by a group of f*ckwits.

      But . but … we are #ReadytoOpen.

    • But Sabrina says:

Not to worry, we are ready.

      World Class, World Class Jerry!

    • Anonymous says:

You have had months to get vaccinated and new vaccines are on the way. LFT are on order and will be arriving. Most should be out of quarantine by Nov. 20 What else is your complaint? Wear a mask, social distance and don’t gather in a large group and everything will be just fine.

This completely avoidable screw up will mainly affect those needing boosters. PACT knew the numbers requiring boosters. All that was required was year 2 math, but that was too much to expect it seems.

I am not upset they ran out, I am upset because they knew they ran out first thing in the morning and the Government or HSA could not be bothered to put out any communication relating that to us. Wasted an hour of my time as did countless others.

  9. Anonymous says:

Have they not had months, if not years to prepare for this eventuality?

Honestly, what in the baby cheeses are they actually doing? Surely they cannot be this completely inept, out their depth and useless?

The standard of Cayman politician is truly awful. Seems like you can slap a suit on anyone with enough friends and call them an MLA. Remember the minister for health and his donkey?

You know that saying ‘there’s always someone that has it worse than you’ – I’m not sure that applies to Wayne right now, fella can’t even really get a reprieve if thinking about going out on his fishing boat

Good problem to have. Just need the under 12 jabs.

    • Anonymous says:

Yeah, but how many vaccines have been thrown out because people did not take them up?

Have to say at this point if one is unvaccinated and costs a life I will have no empathy.

      Darwin’s theory at work.

  12. Anonymous says:

Pure incompetence….that could cost someone their life.

World class again from cig and the civil service….zzzzzz

  14. Anonymous says:

Good thing really. Means all the idiots finally got jabbed. Shame they didn’t go in March.

Is there anything more that Windbag Panton and his collection of gormless clowns can do to surprise us?

    • Anonymous says:

I bet there is. Wayne’s incompetence knows no bounds, except that he’s not so harsh and cruel like Alden.

  16. Anonymous says:

Not surprising since the NHS probably want to ensure that vaccines aren’t wasted.

  17. Anonymous says:

Unlikely. Far more probable they are taking a few days off. #worldclass

Stupid comment. What an insult to Cayman’s nursing community.

Stupid, stupid comment. Please CNS post my comment to this damn idiot.

      • Anonymous says:

You may have a point, but how many 7 day weeks, for how many weeks, have public health nurses been working? Just want to understand. Some of us do not know. Some of us do know that many in the private sector are working 7 day weeks. We also have pretty high rates of vaccination to help keep us and everyone else safe. What are the vaccination rates amongst nursing staff like?

      • Anonymous says:

I don’t have much time for Caymanian health workers not vaccinated.

        That is stupid.

I got mine about 12:30 today and it wasn’t like busy at all.

    • Anonymous says:

because they were turning everyone who was there for boosters away by that point. Only giving it to people for first or second dose.
honest question… why did you wait so long to get your first or second dose?

  19. Anonymous says:

You can’t be serious? We ran out?

    Don’t stop the Carnival.

  20. Anonymous says:

Yep – PACT is prepared – NOT

    • Anonymous says:

The civil service reported to PACT that they were ready. That they were #worldclass. PACT just repeated what they were told. The government is not actually in charge of anything. The Civil Service is. No government is willing to hold them to account.

      • Anonymous says:

Actually the civil service reported to PACT that they were not even close to ready, but the people PACT actually listens and obeys said that their profit projections for 2021-22 were based on Cayman opening before US Thanksgiving and therefore ordered PACT to declare the country ready.

        Tru dat. Miller Shaw please.
