(CNS): The Cayman Islands Public Library Services (CIPL) issued a brief statement on Sunday announcing the sudden death of its director, Paul Robinson, and said all public libraries would be closed Monday. Robinson became the country’s top librarian in 2019, having been with the library service for several years after transferring from the National Archives. Regular operating hours will resume on Tuesday, 2 November 2021. The Public Libraries Services asked for the public’s understanding at this difficult time.

RIP Sir. Now can this highly paid post be eliminated. All we need is a few Librarians for our 2 X 4 Libraries. Same goes for Director of 1 X 2 Museum as she has not been retired by the DG like Caymanians are once they reach 60.
Once told me how Caymanian she was because she came she in such and such a year. I informed her I was born here 60+ years ago.

To answer your question … Clearly so that you’d have time to to step away from your studies there, to write such an absurd one liner. SMH
Ever more the reason for libraries …..

Paul Robinson was a good man who loved Cayman and it’s people. I worked with him when he was at the Archive and Public Libraries. He was always pleasant, always respectful to everyone and was very well liked. He was passionate about preserving Caymanian heritage and history and was committed to and focused on his job and the staff that he worked with. I will miss him dearly. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and staff. May God comfort them in their time of need.

The Public Libraries are run by a small close-knit department. In other words you heartless, evil jackasses, the staff are in mourning over the loss of their leader, manager, mentor, friend and colleague, who unfortunately died very suddenly and unexpectedly. It would be no different than the same loss in any small entity. We can surely give them one workday to mourn.

As someone who recently spent a lot of time at the GT library over the summer this is sad and shocking to hear. I would usually study on the 3rd floor where the staff offices and conference room are to avoid all the noise that often occurs on floors 1-2. Being on 3, I sometimes crossed paths with Mr. Robinson in the hallway and in the elevator on a few occasions as I was often one of the last ppl to leave when the library would close up. He was a friendly person and of good character. I remember a funny joke he made one time with the security guard and I when everyone had all gone already and we were at reception trying to find my name on those awful sign in sheets so I could sign out. Condolences to his family.
