(CNS): Following two direct and very public invitations from the PACT government over the last few days to Dwayne “John-John” Seymour to join the administration, he did just that Tuesday evening. During a public meeting in his constituency of Bodden Town East he sought the approval of his voters to join the current government, crossing the floor from the opposition benches, after what he said was the lobbying of MPs for his “talents” and experience.

“This is not an easy decision,” Seymour told his district audience, adding that it might not be popular with everyone but he was doing it to help his constituents.

It does not appear that Seymour has been offered a ministry, but Tourism Minister Kenneth Bryan said that Seymour would be working with him to fix the transport problem and assisting various other ministers with projects, such as helping Planning Minister Jay Ebanks with the affordable housing project.

It also appears that the PACT Government will be calling on Seymour for his experience with the COVID-19 pandemic, despite his less than stellar record as health minister.

Premier Wayne Panton arrived late at the meeting to welcome him into the fold and appeared to give his blessing to the new addition to the PACT line-up, despite their past disputes over the environment. Panton said it was a pleasure to support what he hoped would be the newest member who would help unite the whole of Bodden Town under the new government.

Jay Ebanks, who had been one of those offering the overt invitations to Seymour, said he was the “missing link” in the PACT Government.

This will make a cabinet shuffle a little more likely.

See I see that the Compost is indicating that John John will be a Parliamentary Secretary in 3 Ministries. I suppose that means that he will be receiving 3 times the normal Parliamentary Secretary ‘bonus’ – so about the same pay as a Minister??? That would go some way to explaining the move.

The Premier said, PACT is looking out for the people, with welcoming jon jon in Pact?,and giving all of the M P’s 2 to 3 k pay raise, now the donkey full moon man will get a big pay raise, How is that looking out for the people, with only giving hard worked old pensioners likec 14 or 15 dollars raise on their pay check, also old seamen that supported this country and put it on the map when is was no Tourists and Banking boom here, what you gave them?. Only looking out for M P,s, remember everyone has to eat and Bill’s to pay

    Missing link or missing stink?

This is an example of why right-minded people and people with an ethical backbone are staying away from politics.

If Dwayne Seymour is the missing link from the PACT administrations perspective then they are essentially admitting that they are a severely inexperienced administration that represent a significant risk to the Cayman Islands.

If Jon Jon has any talents he hid them deeper underground than the third servant in the Bible.

Geezum, PACT want to advertise this “incredible” scoop? Just shows how out of touch PACT is with public sentiment.

I’m 100% Caymanian by birth and generations but I’ve repeatedly observed the fickleness of many Caymanians. Politically, many voters and particularly their reps have no sense of honour or commitment. It’s all about “being on the winning team”. Of course, that’s for their own selfish reasons, nothing to do with “Queen & country” or national pride. Constituents? Bullshit!

Just like some of my Man U supporting friends, all well when we’re winning but when things are a bit rough, let’s bail out!

JonJon’s crossing over leaves plenty of space for Wayne to spread out and sulk when he is sent packing, now that he is surplus to requirements.

Kenny not even bothering to hide the fact that ministerial roles are basically bargaining chips. At least try and fake the notion that the most qualified individuals are appointed as ministers…what a bunch of clowns

All those people railing on the basis of “royalty to party”; BS. Politics should be about getting the most done FOR THE PEOPLE. If sitting in a party is not conducive to that, then haul ass and go where you will be able to better serve the needs of your people. If you do not have the guts to do that, then do not go into politics.

  26. Anonymous says:

I read elsewhere that PACT think John John has something to offer abroad as they expand globally. Have we learnt nothing from his press briefings. Last thing we need is sending him to a world stage representing Cayman.

    • Big Bobo In West Bay says:

The problem is that the talent pool in Cayman is so low that it does not get any better than John John.

Together with McKeeva he is our best and brightest.

THE Caymanian voters always come through.

      • Fellow Bayer says:

Also sad that any Caymanian with a degree or any decent job gets asked by foreign colleagues when they will run for politics.
It’s done with a borderline mocking smirk and the reason for the smirk is sad but true.

  28. Anonymous says:

If there was any doubt PACT was completely void of any competency whatsoever….. This should be GLARINGLY obvious now.

  29. Anonymous says:

Well I woke up in the twilight zone again, bringing Jon-Jon back….what, we need him speaking in tongues again?

  30. Anonymous says:

Now he’s the Christmas donkey bringing a gift to PACT.

  31. Anonymous says:

I suspect that in the near future Mac will become either Premier or he will be given a new Cabinet position as Minister of Justice with John John becoming Speaker based on his qualifications for that role and the fact that he needs some type of payoff.

    • Anonymous says:

No no, I think you have this wrong. I think this is a collusion between PACT and PPM. Send Dwayne over as the PPM sacrificial lamb – but don’t tell the newbies the plan – see the happiness on Kenneth’s face? That’s real. Allow PACT to make up the numbers required for a gov without Mac involved anymore. Everyone saves face, PPM quietly allow PACT to run govt until they inevitably do something dumb, then they swoop in.

      • Anonymous says:

Interesting but there are at least 2 points against that idea. First, Mac is the most politically savvy person in Parliament (although I detest the fact that he is there) and second, collusion requires a level of thinking ability I believe is beyond PACT.

      • Anonymous says:

You clearly are not paying attention. It was said last night that his role would be to travel and represent the Govt at conferences overseas. This may be because Kenneth cannot travel. So Jon Jon’s new job is to travel business class and stay at 5 star hotels all over the world!

        • Anonymous says:

No doubt, accompanied with diplomatically immune First Lady Seymour and her Fitness trainer. Awesome.

        • Anonymous says:

I keep hearing this. Can someone enlighten me as to why our Minister for Tourism cannot travel internationally?

Not asking for a friend, but for myself. I genuinely would love to know.

          Thank you.

          • Corruption is endemic says:

While some of us may say Kenneth is lacking in convictions, that is not actually the case…

        • Anonymous says:

@ 11:21am why can’t Kenneth travel? Serious question.

  32. Anonymous says:

How could we have known his talent for being stupid was in such short supply? All evidence to the contrary…

  33. Anonymous says:

Well Progressives were right when they said that PACT lacked the experience. First they poached Julie and now Dwayne. Thing is Jon Jon will be Minister without portfolio although he will be running large chunks of Jays and Kenneth’s ministries. He will do the work, they will get the praise.

  34. Anonymous says:

Well I guess Jon Jon’s private school fees, and other miscellaneous expenses can’t cope with his current salary. The grass (no pun intended) is greener on the other side. I will never vote for any political party again. Someone once told me there is no difference between the US political parties. Republicans and Democrats are all the same because they are controlled by the same entity. I guess that is true here in Cayman as well. The circus continues!!!

On the plus side, I did get a good laugh from the quote “Talent and Experience”. Thanks for that PACT!!!
