COVID cases soar with 90 positives in one day

| 26/10/2021 | 255 Comments

(CNS): The positivity rate of people being tested for SARS-CoV-2 reached a startling new high Tuesday, with 90 positive cases of community transmission as well as two cases in travellers due to leave quarantine all recorded in just one day from 1,101 PCR tests. Two more people have been admitted to hospital and both are being given supplemental oxygen, Chief Medical Officer Dr John Lee said in the announcement relating to the surge in transmission. One woman who was hospitalised in early September and another patient who has COVID but was admitted to the hospital on Sunday for an unrelated matter are both stable.

As the realities of living with COVID grew more stark today, Dr Lee said he was aware that people would be anxious but the ‘genie was out of the bottle’.

“I know a lot of you will be feeling frightened or worried with this increase in numbers, but they really are as we might anticipate with this being such an infectious disease,” he said. “It’s important to understand that once this degree of infectious disease is in the community, you can’t really put the genie back in the bottle. It’s with us as we move to reopen the borders further.”

The CMO urged people to follow COVID protocols and take extra precautions as the virus is now widespread.

“I really need to ask you to follow the advice of people that you trust and have trusted for a good long while and the information sources that are trusted out there, too,” he said. “Do please mask, distance, look after the elderly in the community and the vulnerable, and protect them as much as you can.”

Dr Lee advised people to get vaccinated to protect themselves from serious illness if they have not already done so. “Overwhelmingly around the world, the people who are admitted to hospital with serious illness and who unfortunately die, a huge majority of these are those that are unvaccinated. So we can see the evidence that it will protect you,” the CMO added.

Public Health is reminding all households that have undergone testing for COVID-19 that they must continue to isolate at home, whether test results have been received or not, until they are advised they can leave by a Public Health official.

The number of active and symptomatic cases or the numbers of those in quarantine have not yet been released for Tuesday. As of Monday, there were 320 active cases, but with today’s additional 90 positive results, even with some recoveries Cayman has around 400 live cases of the virus among those now in isolation, which is around 1,500 people.

Meanwhile, around 64% of those infected as of yesterday were said to be showing symptoms of the virus.

I suspect that the reports of people being told by government agencies not to get tested for Covid even though they know that they have been exposed are true. Truth is a casualty in this battle.

  2. Anonymous says:

Remember 18 months ago when Public Health guided the government in stopping the spread of Covid using age old public health protocols?

Not sure what happened recently but it almost seems like Dr. John has become a mouthpiece for those giving orders to PACT. He knows perfectly well that standard public health protocols could control or stop this community spread, it is just that our politicians won’t do it because implementing those measures might limit the profits of the special interests they answer to for a while.

    • Anonymous says:

@8:03am Geesh..give it a break..Should we just tell PACT to lock us up again.

Go get vaccinated, wash your hands, mask up and start enjoying life again. The rest of us are tired of waiting on you to do that right thing. You wouldn’t be blaming the government right now if you had got up off your ass and went and got your FREE vaccine.

No government in the world can stop covid from spreading..The two leading countries in the world, the USA and the UK have worst situations and have handled and continue to handle their situations in the worst kind of ways

      • Anonymous says:

The UK and the US got into bad situations because their political leaders denied the science and were guided by special interests. Cayman has now started down that road unfortunately

    • Anonymous says:

Enough with the “special interests” & “Cabal” conspiracy theories which are complete nonsense. Rather than play around in the fantasy sand pit I would urge you to get up and travel off island for a while. You will see that both the UK and US are moving on from Covid. This has nothing to do with anything other than the reality that we are fully vaccinated and ready to open. Even the PPM stated they would open when we got to about 70% vaccination rate. If the PPM were in government now, we would be in a very similar position.
Yes its early days and they will sometimes struggle to get the balance absolutely right but the UK opened up in the summer and since then their covid death rate has been relatively flat with a 7 day average of between 100 and 130 people a day for a country with a population of 68,000,000. No deaths are good but these are not huge numbers and do not support the irrational fear Cayman is now experiencing. We have a much higher vaccination rate than either the UK or US and this will help enormously over the coming months.
If you aren’t vaccinated get it now. It is by far the best protection against Covid which has now moved from being a pandemic to endemic.

The issue is not the spread of covid, the issue is the abject and pathetic failure of the pact government to plan for and implement procedures required once community spread became established.

They knew it was going to happen, they knew they would need to do something re schools, they knew lateral flow tests were available, they knew the 14 days isolation would wreak havoc not just with schools but with the entire business & public sector.

They knew all this for months. And months. And months. Yet they did nothing. Total negligence and dereliction of their public duty. On this issue alone the government should be removed, and Panton in particular should be removed entirely from the political arena.

That assumes Cayman’s healthcare system provides the same treatment provided in First World countries. It can’t and it won’t. Since we’re guessing, then, I expect at 30-40 deaths within 12 months. It’s as valid as your guess.

Based on Bermuda’s numbers (now up to 98 dead) 1.7% of those identified as positive, are dead. We have somewhat higher vaccination rates, but even we’re we to do twice as well as Bermuda, we are already looking at the likelihood of a death or two amongst current carriers, even before there is further spread. This is not cause for panic. This is simply the somber reality of what now confronts us. CITA, please let us know if you disagree. After all, it is we who are taking one for your team.

      • So says:

The obese and the unvaccinated account for almost all deaths. That is death by choice and lack of self-care. Society cannot close down for those that do not look after themselves.

Yesterday’s Covid press release contained the following statement attributed to Dr. Lee.

“He explained, “It’s important to understand that once this degree of infectious disease is in the community you can’t really put the genie back in the bottle. It’s with us as we move to reopen the borders further.””

That is simply not true IMHO. Public health measures that have been known for a hundred years could stop transmission if there was a will in government to do so. We eliminated the virus from the community once before. The virus dies out if it cannot move from person to person.

I suspect that this outbreak is being used as a convenient ‘mask’ to cover what is going to happen when hundreds of infected tourists are allowed into our community next month. Profit before people.

    • Robert Mugabe IV says:

For you to state that ………..
“ measures that have been known for a hundred years could stop transmission if there was a will in government to do so.”

So you know more than every Govt worldwide. Well done, you might share it with the rest of the world if you have time.

And for you to follow up with…………

“We eliminated the virus from the community once before”………shows us all what you know about Covid.
      That is **** all.

Public health need to decide why they r testing.
Initially fine as it was meant for isolation.
Now if testing to isolate and trt it is fine.
Even negative doesnt mean they r ok to roam. So contacts without symptoms just stay home no need to test.
    Test symptomatics only.
Then burden on public health less.
Let us accept covid like flu and live with appr trt and precautions.

  8. Anonymous says:

The percentage of symptomatic covid positive has been increasing every day. That’s not because the disease is different, it’s because there are more and more cases in community that are not diagnosed. So watch out that asymptomatic neighbor can very well be covid positive.

There are at least four people in our office right now coughing up a storm. No masks. I figure our whole office will have it soon. Luckily, I’m fully vaccinated and boostered. Despite my age, I should live through it, but it’s shocking to me that our office is taking ZERO precautions to reduce the spread. The bosses are happy for us to all get COVID so we can get on with making money afterwards.

  9. Anonymous says:

We have been saying that once it enters it will spread as vaccine cant stop it. But no severe cases among vaxed. Again vaccine protection 80 to 90 percent. So still can have severe cases.
Initially testing all contacts and quarantining them for prevention of community transsion.
Now having 80 over weekend and 90 in 24hrs means high level transmission going on. There might be 10 times of this figure already infected who will be positive in next two weeks.
We shouldnt test all contacts. Ask contacts with symptoms to get tested andvtreat them. Other contacts stay home as even a negative test doesnt mean negative.
I think the Medical fraternity should stand up and advise Govt logically. They will listn.
CMO AND MOH MED DIRECTOR SPECIALISTS pl guide Govt.

We can only assume that this is exactly what Dr. Lee and the PACT government expected to be the outcome of the decisions to further relax the strict COVID-19 suppression measure that were initially in place (especially the requirement to quarantine in government run facilities).

As it appears that government finances and pressure from various business lobby groups are driving the current decision making it would be good for the government to publish their projected increase in revenues. Also, as the CDC has moved Cayman to level 3 the government needs to explain how that impacts the border reopening and revenue projections and how a move to level 4 would would impact the border reopening plans and revenue projections.

The government also needs to commit to not taking on any new long term expenditures until they get their finances in order.

    • Anonymous says:

@12:21am So what is your plan? Keep us locked down forever?

Most places in the Caribbean are at level 3 or 4. The only reason we stayed at level 2 was because we were locked down but as soon as community spread numbers grew this CDC change of status came about.

We have to move on. We have been trapped in this bubble for so long that people are still not doing the few simple things that could could slow the community spread such as hand sanitizing, wearing masks and of course getting the vaccine.

Being at nearly 80% vaccinated has helped us avoid hospitalizations and deaths. We still have 20% unvaccinated and those are the folks I really worry about as the vaccinated will stand a better chance if the get it and maybe not even have to be hospitalized but it has been proven that those that are unvaccinated are likely to be the ones to be hospitalized or die from contracting the virus.

Rather than blaming the government, Dr. Lee or anyone else who are trying their best without constantly being disparaged, why don’t we all try to work together to encourage each other to follow the protocols and the things that we now that can suppress the the virus.

Locking us down for another year will make absolutely no sense. Covid will be here for a long time and we must learn to live with it and take care of ourselves and not expect the government to hold our hands do that for us.

      • Anonymous says:

Party of learning to live with it is being experienced in other countries. Several have learned to live with repeated lockdowns as infections spiked. In light of how disgracefully, recklessly inept PACT is in implementing sound Covid mitigation policy (two prime examples: non-vased census workers and announcing opening with no plan) we can be assured of future lockdowns and mitigation madates in the face of rising community spread and visitor-spread infections. Expect it, look for it, accept it. The new normal, lockdowns and all.

  11. Anonymous says:

It’s really sad how people only talk in terms of how they will be affected. Particularly that they won’t die or be very ill, so they’re not worried.
Vaccination is for the community benefit.
Vaccinated people are less likely to catch covid, less likely to suffer a breakthrough infection if they do catch it, and, crucially, are much less likely to pass the disease on to others.

Transmission is not a binary have-it or don’t-have-it scenario. Viral load is they key factor. People who are vaccinated simy produce a lot less viral particles, and therefore are less infectious.

This is the importance of vaccination. If the disease cannot spread as easily, it will burn out of the population quicker, and the vulnerable are less likely to be exposed.

    • Anonymous says:

@CNS – this seems like one of the sensible and succinct sentences I have read on here for months. Can this be fact checked?

“Transmission is not a binary have-it or don’t-have-it scenario. Viral load is they [sic] key factor. People who are vaccinated simy [sic] produce a lot less viral particles, and therefore are less infectious.”

CNS: It is increasingly clear that people who are infected with covid, whether unvaccinated or vaccinated (the breakthrough cases) have similar viral loads. The CDC announced this a few weeks ago. See this more recent report – Viral Loads Similar Between Vaccinated and Unvaccinated People

However, it’s important to note this bit in the middle – “This study did not directly address how easily vaccinated people can get infected with SARS-CoV-2, or how readily someone with a breakthrough infection can transmit the virus.”

So if you are vaccinated and get infected you may have the same viral load as someone who is unvaccinated and gets infected. But the question is whether you are as likely to get infected. I looked for something sensible on this. Here’s a recent article on the John Hopkins site – Breakthrough Infections: Coronavirus After Vaccination. But clearly there are ongoing studies which may show something new.

I haven’t found a better overall discussion that this – No, Vaccinated People Are Not ‘Just as Likely’ to Spread the Coronavirus as Unvaccinated People

  12. Anonymous says:

Vaccination lowers the risk of serious effects from covid, lowers the viral load, and gives your immune system a fighting chance of controlling the infection.
This, in turn, means you have a lower chance of break through infection, and a lower chance of passing it on.

It does not mean you won’t die if you have other ailments, or have a weakened immune system.

To be able to predict hospitalization rates or mortality rates would require a lot of information, including age range figures, prevalence of relevant medical conditions, financial status (in all major illnesses, poverty is a major factor affecting outcomes).

It is not only the unvaccinated that will be hospitalized, or that will die. The biggest factor in mortality will likely be age, closely followed by general health.

Covid binds to a protein that is most commonly found in lungs and the heart, as well as in lower amounts in other major organs. People with pre-existing conditions affecting these organs will be at much higher risk of serious illness. The vaccine will help these people to a degree, but will not make them immune.

The vaccine will help those at risk mostly by the people around them being vaccinated, and lowering the chance of the at risk person ever getting covid.

It’s particularly important for the strong and healthy to be vaccinated, as they are the most likely to be young, to be more socially active, to work in more social environments, and to be exposed to new people regularly. They are the ones who will contract covid, and bring it into their households and families.

The problem in Cayman is that the age group most resistant to vaccination is exactly this young, healthy group, aged 18-30.

    • Robert Mugabe IV says:

………“ It does not mean you won’t die if you have other ailments, or have a weakened immune system.”……………..
That is exactly what you can say about the unvaxxed population aswell…………
The percentages are clear and can’t be refuted.
An unvaxxed or vaxxed healthy human has very little to worry about this virus.
People with UNDERLYING CONDITIONS This is the bracket of people who are at most danger of getting seriously ill or dying. Unfortunately in Cayman we have huge numbers in this regard.
And Govt still continuing with the Census madness.

  13. Anonymous says:

Well done Cayman! We managed to reach the highest risk level, level 4 according to the CDC. Now all Americans are advised to ‘avoid unnecessary travel’ to the Cayman Islands because the islands are high risk for catching covid, just before we open for tourism. What an amazing achievement.
This can only be blamed on a totally reckless attitude by
1 – drug dealers going to Jamaica and coming back obviously without quarantine.
2 – associates of the above refusing to comply with test and trace for obvious reasons of lawlessness.
3 – people who were quarantined on trust – and could not be trusted to stay at home because they thought they were so damned important that rules didn’t apply to them
4 – the reckless abandonment of quarantine monitoring
5 – reduction of quarantine period to only 5 days when incubation is potentially 14 days, so positive people were released early into the community before they tested positive.

Knowing that covid is still very active in countries where our tourists likely come from, we’ll be inviting even more covid positive people into our community soon. They’ll be going to shops and hotels, interacting with staff who then take covid home to their families, who take it to their colleagues at work, their kids at school, grandparents and elderly relatives in their homes. Our supply chains will start to break when we have so many people off work sick or in isolation that the island cannot function properly. Food will rot at the port, essentials won’t be available.
And when that tourist gets to the end of their vacation and needs a test to return back to the US, only THEN do they find they are positive. So they cannot return and need to be housed somewhere until they are negative.
Who is going to pay for that? What if they become sick? They’ll end up filling our hospitals and overwhelming our very limited medical services. Who will pay for that too?
This is all one EPIC DISASTER in the making.
I may seem like I’m ranting and over exaggerating, but think back 2 weeks and were we expecting to be here right now. On the red list with more than 90 new cases today? The situation is accelerating fast now.

The PACT Clown Car, running full speed ahead with no map and blind drivers, announcing relaxing travel restrictions, without a plan, certainly contributes to doubt and greatly stokes humans’ natural fear of the unknown. Consistent with their actions in regard to Covid policy, in the latest press briefing Panton and his minions did not even try to inspire faith that they are marginally competent to lead us through the Covid crisis and relaxing of travel restriction. He be like: “Trust us! Yeah, we got no plan, but we be wukkin on it. Yeah, we are winging it, but we got this. OK?”

Clearly the one thing that will stop it is unsustainable. It doesn’t take a scientist to know that cutting humans off completely from each other will stop the spread but most people don’t want to live that way and the moment you stop doing that you’re right back where you started.

    • Anonymous says:

Hate to break it to ya, but people aren’t following the rules, and haven’t been doing so for some time now

      • Anonymous says:

They don’t follow the rules because they don’t have to. No repercussions for local quarantine breakers sends a powerful message.

    • Anonymous says:

You fail to carry your hurricane analogy to the full extent of reality. So let’s go with your analogy. When a hurricane threatens, we have mandatory evacuations of imperiled areas. We stock up on supplies. We close and shutter businesses, urge people to stay off the streets, shutter up our homes, and seek shelter in a secure place until the threat passes. Tell ya what: next time there is a major hurricane over Cayman, just go take a long walk around outside and learn to live with the storm.

The aim and expectation to remain covid free (Flu free) is pure hysterical lunacy and refusal to accept reality and time for psychotherapy.

  30. Anonymous says:

In case anybody still does not understand, our health care system is absolutely not prepared for what is about to happen. Vaccines are great but when the government refuses to impose proven public health measures in order to slow the spread of the virus, many people will suffer needlessly.

  31. Anonymous says:

Opened or not, the covid is going to do what its going to do, like it did around the world.

Lock downs and quarantines don’t do crap.

    • Anonymous says:

I cannot agree with you. Our quarantine system was clearly working. We did not have covid in the community and we were all living wonderfully free and carefree lives. Reduce quarantine or make it quarantine on trust without the monitoring, and look what happened immediately. It is possible to keep the island covid free – or at least it was.

      • Anonymous says:

Nonsense. We have three months of 5-day quarantine without any cases in the community. It was inevitable and now we are going to get our wave, just like every other country.

      • Anonymous says:

Or maybe no one in the community was tested? Covid was always here it just wasn’t tested for to the extent it is now.

      • Anonymous says:

        Oh,Pleaaaaseee!!!!!!

  32. Anonymous says:

Even with this rapid acceleration in Covid cases PACT will do nothing. They will not even consider the consequences of allowing hundreds of infected tourists in starting 3 weeks from now. They don’t care who gets sick.

Within 2 weeks the modified vaccines for children aged 5 – 11 will be authorized for those parents that want them and within 6 weeks the new Merck and other oral medications that cut the death rate by 50% will be authorized. PACT refuses to take those facts on board because it might upset the cabal.

    • Anonymous says:

Plus waiting another two months would let every willing adult to get boosted. Should have gone with January 2022 so we would be as prepared as possible.

In the US, they can direct patients to other hospitals if a local hospital is stressed. We dont have that option.

    • Anonymous says:

They won’t care until one of their own gets seriously ill, then you will see a change in their attitude.

  33. Anonymous says:

People should get their home oxygen supplies and and ventilators now. Toilet paper, pasta and canned beans is not going to be enough this time.

    From the Compass sorry CNS):

“Lee said the latest admissions, both of whom were in stable condition but requiring supplemental oxygen, brings to four the total number of people in hospital who have tested positive for the virus. One of those was admitted in early September and the other was hospitalised over the weekend for an “unrelated matter”.:

    So no new COVID hospitalizations?

CNS: GIS transcript of Dr Lee’s video message – “There were two admissions to hospital of people positive for SARS-CoV-2 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of hospitalised patients to four. The two recent admissions are requiring supplemental oxygen. Of the prior admissions, one has been hospitalised since early September and the other was admitted for an unrelated matter.”

It did not have to be this way. If we had a government that followed the science and implemented public health measures this could have been controlled. Instead ours just does what the business elite demand. Can we please have a do-over on the election?

  36. Anonymous says:

So I see that the CDC downgraded Cayman to high risk . It is amazing what a little refusal to mitigate can do.

    • Anonymous says:

So what? Meaningless ratings. You really think Americans give two shits?

      • Anonymous says:

Americans with common sense, the majority, do care. The kind that don’t care are the kind that spread Covid it does not matter if they are American or Caymanian or Martian.

      • Beaumont Zodecloun says:

Yes. I believe shits are given. Many shits.

      • Anonymous says:

The Americans who give two shits are actually the responsible Americans we’d want coming here during the pandemic.

      • Anonymous says:

Right, judging by how many believe in Q Anon and conspiracy theories there and here.

      • Anonymous says:

Actually YES, we do care. My family has waited for almost 2 years (Fall 2019, last trip to our condo) to return. We are all fully vaccinated, still wear masks, assist our elderly parents, so we are careful. It may be a fun pasttime to continually bash Expats, but the perceptions are frequently incorrect.

        • Anonymous says:

As an American living here myself, I can tell you that I’ve never been so reviled, pitied and mocked for being American as I have the past five years. I’ll leave it to you to figure out why. Just know that most people will appreciate you coming here and being responsible. We look forward to your visit!

    • Anonymous says:

The US is opening up to all countries, irrelevant of CDC status, provided the traveller is fully vaccinated. They are recognising, as many other countries are, that the actual risk of travellers entering their country is low, when they are fully vaccinated and have had a recent PCR test done to show they are negative. The downgrade has no real impact on Cayman.

      • Anonymous says:

You cannot be serious trying to equate the impact and potential for infection import by tourists in the Cayman Islands to that of the USA. In 2019, the number of arrivals in the USA approached about 1/4 of the U.S. population. That same year, the number of tourist arrivals in Cayman was 2.3 MILLION arrivals or almost 30 times our population! That difference is a factor of about 120x or 12,000%. Your conflation is so ill-founded may I conclude that you are one of the PACT members who are leading Cayman’s Clown Car Covid policy?

  37. Anonymous says:

90 cases per day and 410 active cases with a population of 71,000 puts us at a per capita level of Covid infection higher than either the US or the UK at the worst part of their pandemics. Hospitalizations peak about 2 weeks after cases peak and deaths about 2 – 6 weeks after that. Nothing to worry about though, our politicians will soon get permission to do something, unless of course it might impact profits.

    • Anonymous says:

These are just lab confirmed cases. If 90 are lab tested positive, it likely means another couple hundred in the community over the last day. In the UK and US, they estimate for every lab confirmed case, there are two untested people who are postive.

    • Anonymous says:

At one point the US was reporting over 10 million active cases, so 3 percent of pop, which in cayman would be around 2k cases. And it’s going higher in cayman because it does more per capita testing. Covid is far from peaking here.

    • Anonymous says:

Calm down. Jersey had over 2,000 cases in July with a population of just over 100,000.

  38. Anonymous says:

    I blame the raccoon.

  39. Anonymous says:

Let’s be honest. The nes in hospital are probably unvaccinated. There is a terrible comment I hear in Cayman ever day, whether buying wine at Blackbeard or getting my car cleaned:.. It goes like tis:

“Doesn’t matter if vaccinated or unvaccinated, you still catch it”

So, so so so stupid. True, but the unvaccinated will die, the vaccinated will not (unless they would have died anyway in the next 12 months).

  40. Anonymous says:

The spike you can attribute to the early school closures arrives

  41. Anonymous says:

I understand the need to reopen but it seems little is being done to slow the spread of covid. We should be using a vaccine passport system like so many other countries have used to prevent lockdowns. Why isn’t this being considered or even mentioned?

    • Anonymous says:

great comment….been asking this for months.
it is literally pointless being vaxxed when the unvaxxed can have the same freedoms and put the rest of us at risk

    • Anonymous says:

Exactly. It’s spreading like a wild fire and we are doing virtually nothing to try and slow the spread. Right now, we have active more than a third of all the case we have had to date, which until recently was primarily returning travellers. We could easily have several hundred more by the end of this month and PACT is doing nothing!

    • Anonymous says:

myHSA has even given us the QR vax codes. Unfortunately it is still considered politically unpopular to go against the alt-fact Church brigade. If we wanted to “live with Covid”, we should be testing everyone. $7 rapid test for every 24 hrs you want to go outside and mix and mingle.

  42. Anonymous says:

Cayman going to hell fast and what do we hear from government, nothing. Turns out that the people our government reports to were out playing golf and did not want to be disturbed so government can’t say or do anything.

  43. Anonymous says:

More to look forward to next week (or maybe later this week) is Cayman’s promotion to the CDC Level 4 list of the most dangerous places for tourists to go. We have already passed that threshold but it takes the CDC a couple of days to update their threat assessments.

Not to worry, Covid deniers and others like them will fill the plane seats and infect us even faster.

  44. Anonymous says:

    Here are the facts:

    1) COVID never going away Bobo – the community spread was not he 5 day change, was locals breaking quarantine
    2) Community spready would have happened regardless of poliy – always gonna happen, same a s every county
    3) First wave in every country looks bad, but ours is fin – very minimal hospital cases, I bet all are unvaccinated or serious underlying health conditions

    SO: WHY IS EVRYEONE CMLKAINIG???!!!

CAYMAN IS A TINY OVERSEAS COUNTRY WITH A 80% VACCINATUON RATE AND 50% FOREIGN POPULATION AND BUSINESS MODEL.

WE WILL BE FINE. STOP WORRYING.

  45. Anonymous says:

A sensible government would put the brakes on this outbreak but we have PACT that is owned by the cabal so it is going to be a very bumpy ride.

  46. Anonymous says:

1 or 2 infected individuals getting past or through quarantine 6 – 8 weeks ago has lead to 90 cases in one day. Wait until PACT drops quarantine in November and lets in dozens of infected tourists every day.

    • Anonymous says:

These are the tourists who have all given negative PCR tests? From the rest of the world where they have been living for Covid for 18 months? Only the naive on Cayman think they will all be ‘infected’ … rubbish

  47. Anonymous says:

John – of course we can put the genie back in the bottle. It would take some effort, but can be achieved. The government is choosing not to. Please do not pretend it cannot be done. The decision not to is a political one, and is not made with public health as the primary factor.

    • Anonymous says:

It can be done because it was done in April 2020 when we had plenty of cases here. Not saying it must be done, but could be done.

  48. Anonymous says:

Well done PACT. CDC listing Cayman as a high risk Level 3 country even before dropping quarantine and bringing in a flood of infected tourists. Not only that but they achieved a a new record number of Covid cases in 1 day. Time for a parade.

    • Anonymous says:

ahhh yes… all PACTs fault right? Even tho alden and them had a reopening plan from september. lmao sthu tbh… you just like to hate on whoever is there because its not going the way YOU want. if it was alden in the seat now doing this you would be screaming for change there too… so please you can make the same comment without tearing down the gov just because they are there lmfao

  49. Anonymous says:

90 new positives. 4 in hospital. 2 requiring supplementary oxygen to breathe.

Other countries like Singapore and TCI have demonstrated that mitigation measures such as vaccine passports, mandatory capacity limits and mandatory public health measures in high risk indoor areas like bars, restaurants, cinemas, gyms, etc are needed to limit transmission. Sadly that will not happen here as the cabal will not give PACT permission to do anything that will limit their profits.
