Speaker McKeeva Bush

(CNS): Speaker McKeeva Bush has publicly declared his opposition to the PACT government’s current policy to lift some quarantine restrictions on visitors in October. Despite being a member of the current government, Bush falls outside the collective responsibility held by Cabinet members, and while his role as speaker requires him to refrain from engaging in political wrangling, such conventions failed to prevent him from wading into most of the key political debates of the day during the last administration and now in this.

In a social media post Wednesday, Bush said, “I’m against reopening in October until more people are vaccinated.”

Urging people to get the shots, Bush revealed his own hesitancy but said his own doctor, whom he trusts, had told him that “whatever being vaccinated will do to us, the virus will kill us”.

Bush was clear in his message to his constituents that they should get vaccinated and he revealed plans for a special constituency vaccine drive on Saturday at the John Gray Church Hall in West Bay. But he also made it clear he did not support opening the borders next month.

“I urge you to get vaccinated if you’re still in doubt. The virus will be around and at some point our borders will have to open up. I hope not in October and not until our children can have some protection,” Bush said in his post, giving voice to concerns held by many people in Cayman who believe government’s decision to open the border is premature, given the spread of the Delta variant around the world and is being fuelled by pressure from the major hotel and restaurant owners.

Bush also quoted from an op-ed in the LA Times, On the front lines, here’s what the seven stages of severe COVID-19 look like, which he said “lays out step by step what happens to unvaccinated persons”.

It’s sad. I despise this person, yet he remains in his high seat as he looks down on us peasants. It’s amazing how persons can continue to progress up the stairs while falling. This man is a representative for the island with his blemished CV. Well, maybe he is just smarter than the rest of us. We have evidence and we all know the actions of this man yet he remains as one of the highest paid government officials of our islands.

The government serves the people, yet we can’t get the government to even acknowledge us when we bring certain things up. I guess we get what we deserve. We are nothing but helpless sheep hoping the good shepherd comes to save us from the wolf while we can see the shepherd gently closing the window trying to ignore us.

Public, please don’t make scruff McKeeva fool you into believing he’s concerned about Cayman: he’s only concerned about himself and he’s making these comments to try to distract from his tattered and destroyed reputation.
He makes me sick to my stomach – an Old Bush nobody.

Zzzzzzzzzz… Once a clown always a clownish buffoon. He is only missing the large goofy shoes.
He will never be associated with anything other than his scandal’s beginning with the failure of 1st Cayman Bank in the ’90’s in which is was listed on the board of directors.
Prove me wrong. Oh, wait. You can’t. You cannot undo all that!
Would someone PLEASE write a book!! (You CV_ in WB, I am begging you! ;0)

Open, keep quarantine, charge for the tracker and mandate that persons download the app on their own phones if quarantine will be at home.

I travelled and did the 5-day quarantine and I worked from home during the 5 days, it can be done.

Big Mac has spoken now, but will Lil Wayne listen? Is a Big Mac versus Lil Wayne pattern starting to emerge?

  7. Anonymous says:

Don’t give that buffoon a voice! He is irrelevant.

    • Anonymous says:

We would like him to be, but unfortunately he is the creator of this government, and all of the major decisions will be made by him with Wayne getting the credit or blame.

mac is the the flip-flop king….

Thank you former Premier Bush/Speaker of Parliament. I am very grateful to you for speaking out and for not supporting this idiotic plan to throw open our borders next month, seemingly at all costs. You have always cared about your people.

    • Anonymous says:

Cared about his people ??? Are you serious?

    • Anonymous says:

If using CIG credit cards to gamble is caring for “his people” then the kool-aid he was serving was more potent than we thought. WOW….amazing that this is still how this man is viewed after all the WRONG he has done against this country and by extension the people.

What’s going to change if you don’t open in October? Covid still be here. Wait till December? Covid still be here. Wait till the New Year. Covid still be here. Wait till next summer? Covid still be here.

    Businesses may not make it.
    Learn to live with covid.

And now we have some immunity from our vaccinations earlier this year, wait 6 months more and not so much.

    • Anonymous says:

Looks like Bush trying to win over the crowd to make up for something….

We could be in the exact same predicament next year at this time. You’re right in saying it’s not going anywhere. Time to peel off the bandaid.

    • Anonymous says:

Exactly. Kicking the can down the road is the correct phrase

    • Anonymous says:

We should wait until after winter and after other countries get their act together. Meanwhile 5 days monitored quarantine should remain in place.

      Learn to live without it.

    • Anonymous says:

      So clever you are!
When the covid cases rise into the hundreds and our Healthcare Facilities buckle under this strain…Well, of course you and your clan will be above it all.

  12. Anonymous says:

Unless quarantine goes, tourists will not travel. There have been 52 breaches, what does that tell you? People have not been following the quarantine guidelines since the start. Let’s be honest. Only very few got caught and punished. There have been 716 cases of covid in cayman. People flying in and out the whole time. Bringing covid in and out. No ICU and ventilators going on overload. It will be the same when tourists arrive. There will be cases (just like the 716 )…most tourists will be vaccinated. Hopefully, the frontline workers will be vaccinated.Masks will be worn in high traffic areas. No lockdowns will be needed. People traveling in will have a covid test before traveling and most will be vaccinated. The ones who are not still have to quarantine.A lot of panic over nothing. Open the border.

    • Anonymous says:

It also tells you that those breaches have NOT caused a widespread outbreak! Great news for reducing fear!!!

    • Anonymous says:

Yes breaches. Thank God they were monitored otherwise these fools would have spread it even more. That is why other countries cannot get it under control because of fools breaching lock down.

  13. Anonymous says:

The only thing I’ve agreed with McKeeva on since 2003!!

    • Anonymous says:

      Amen. Ever.

    • No fan of Mac says:

Agreed! Say what you will but Mac has a point. We’re literally weeks away from the vaccine being available to children as young as 2-5. Why the rush? While children rarely develop serious symptoms, it’s becoming more clear that it causes long term damage to the developing hearts, lungs and endocrine systems of many of these children.

      • Anonymous says:

When vaccines for kids will be available parents will say they won’t vaccinate the kids :)))

        • Anonymous says:

Unvaccinated kids have a 1 in Half Million chance of dying from Covid.
Words spoken by the Governor himself.

Vaccinating children is pointless, the UK medical council has said as much.

3.28 By “this buffoon” you are obviiously referring to yourself. So to translate your comment into language that the common man understand this is what you wrote ..only his ignorant followers will listen to anything I (this buffoon) has to say.

If you can’t beat em…oh wait, you can.

  21. Anonymous says:

This is interesting, the first official to support the re-opening plan initially, now trying to repudiate. The reality of what will occur is setting in for them all (Vaccinated or not).

  22. Anonymous says:

Oh my, along with the contentious CPA approvals and now this in the same day, Wayne’s PACT has the potential to collapse quicker than that of the Afghan Govt.

  23. Anonymous says:

Uhh, He’s clearly not opposing the October border re-opening. He is voicing his support for and urging people to get vaccinated to make him and the others feel more comfortable about that date.

    • Anonymous says:

Mr Speaker empathy ? You’re talking about someone who deflected his assault case on to his victim

      • Anonymous says:

        Narcissistic buffoons don’t display empathy.

This is pure unadulterated political harassment of Wayne.

Pure populist positioning to prepare for his warped reassumption of the Premiership.

      What part of

I hope not in October and not until our children can have some protection,” Bush said

      Do you not understand

      • Anonymous says:

Yep. Alden must be laughing at them now. What a incompetent bunch. We need boosters for the people who took the first shots and for our children.

I can’t believe all of these clowns that say children don’t get Covid. Many children have not only gotten sick, they have died and they are more likely to get long term Covid.

    • Anonymous says:

      Don’t care what he says!
