Kids infected with COVID all getting better

George Town Primary School

(CNS): All of the children that contracted COVID-19 as a result of community transmission at the George Town Primary School are much better, with only two of them now having mild symptoms, Chief Medical Officer Dr John Lee has reported. And while the woman who was the first person found to have the virus is still in hospital due to other medical issues, all of the adults who were positive as a result of that outbreak have recovered, with just two adults related to the primary school case still showing mild symptoms.

There are currently 57 active cases of the virus among those in isolation after three more travellers tested positive yesterday, included one who was vaccinated. Among those 57 people, 25 are symptomatic, including 20 travellers, several of whom are vaccinated.

Meanwhile, the vaccination rate continues to increase. According to the latest figures, over 90% of adults have had at least one dose and a total of 105,823 COVID-19 vaccination shots have been administered. A total of 54,852 people (77% of an estimated population of 71,106) have had at least one dose and 50,962 (72%) have completed the two dose course. Nine people have had a third or booster shot.

Government ministers expressed confidence at the press briefing yesterday that the Cayman Islands will reach the original goal of getting 80% of the population vaccinated in the coming weeks.

Premier Wayne Panton said vaccination was critical to managing life with COVID-19. He said that government was already learning lessons about how to live with the virus and this recent outbreak has revealed how ready the country is to do that. He said the response by government has been good but not absolutely perfect. However, any gaps in response were being addressed, he said.

Panton pointed out that the national vaccination rate has helped to keep a lid on transmission rates, and while everyone had been very worried about the community transmission at the GTPS, the students were all doing well, and as the science has always suggested, children are resilient when it comes to the virus.

Dr Lee said yesterday that some other children, unrelated to the GTPS outbreak, have been going to the flu clinic this week and have been tested. The results would be available in the coming days, he said, but there have been no new confirmed cases of children been infected in the community in recent days. But he also said that more than 1500 children tested over the last week were all negative.

Most of them didn’t even have symptoms to get better from.

This government blew this so out of proportion it isn’t even funny. It was worse than a person amputating all of their limbs due a single ant bite on a pinky toe!

Symptomatic could mean as little as wiping or blowing your nose. If that’s the benchmark for saying you’re symptomatic I must have had Covid for the last 18 months.

These opentheborder a-holes act as if you can catch covid only once.

Dr Lee – how many of these positive cases have the Delta variant?, this spreads faster than a marl road rumour!.

Please sign this if you also feel that the mask mandate being imposed on our young children is unfair.

Your petition won’t do anything. The only way to stop the government is to not comply.

Exactly. I’m glad I’m not alone in my thinking. Non compliance is the most effective means of change. Petitions and protests are okay to get some points across, however nothing is more effective than non compliance.

“Follow the Science” lol. You know what the hospitalization rate is if you catch Covid? 1% to 5%. With most of the eligible population fully vaccinated and Covid not hospitalizing children, staying closed is a fool’s errand. People are going to be more likely to die not being able to afford food and shelter before they succumb to this virus. Open the gates! Get rid of quarantine and allow flights and tourism back. Enough is enough, this is getting ridiculous…

If what you said was true and up to 5% of covid cases needed hospitalization then your suggestion to open the borders would be foolish. The real number is much lower. Do some quick math and think logically before you try to use statistics to argue your position.

I hope we are noting that these healthy young GTPS kids “are starting to get better” two weeks on. That doesn’t sound like a walk in the park to me. Several of 20 symptomatic travellers were also fully vaccinated against last year’s strain. Delta is different, and popular assumptions need to be recalibrated as we move forward through time and space. The vaccines are still our best tool, but they aren’t a cloak of invincibility despite our desires and hopes. Next iteration of mRNAs may get us there in a couple months. Death is not the only yardstick when it comes to health and safety.

As a result, we should restrict people’s movement and make wear ridiculous doorags on their faces. Let’s shut down a few more local businesses as well, just for shits and giggles.

Duh! It is incredibly rare for kids to have anything but mild symptoms. Most of the 18 kids at GTPS who tested positive had zero symptoms. So, tell me, please, why kids are being forced to wear masks in school???? Businesses have more discretion than the schools do. Unbelievable.

PACT should also be promising us that they won’t quarantine an entire school, all family members and close contacts the next time a child tests positive. Draconian!

probably time to start a covid section on cns.
put all these non-storys and the garbage cig updates/regulations somewhere else. it is not relevant to the real world.

Of course they are all getting better and had mild symptoms, because science! https://www.bbc.com/news/health-57766717

And yet they are still pushing the blanket 80% vaccination rate, regardless of age?

The Premier is the man that said we had to vaccinate to protect our children, even though there is ample evidence that children are not seriously at risk from Covid – so much so that scientists in many countries don’t recommend vaccinating them. Now using that same super human logic he has decided that despite getting the real at risk population to over 90% vaccinated and being unable to find any further evidence of community transmission after testing 10000 people the next step is to impose mask mandates on the entire population. And people wonder why Dr lee is leaving in January.

No shit. That is literally “the science”, which PACT, in their wisdom, has decided to abandon in favor of fear and panic.
