(CNS): Shalysa Wray clocked a personal best outdoor time of 53.61 in the women’s 400m heats in Tokyo on Monday, as she made her Olympic debut. Wray was the first Caymanian to run in this event in the Olympics and she met her goal for the Games of running a PB. But given the field she was up against, it wasn’t enough to get her into the semi-finals. All of the Cayman Islands Olympic athletes have now competed and gained invaluable experience in what will go down in history as one of the most challenging of all Olympic Games, given the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic .

More Team officials than athletes, presumably IOC pick up part of the tab. All them on new country experience.

Well done Miss Shalsya, it was great to watch the race and see a Caymanian racing, wasn’t expecting it.

She did not come last and recorded her best time. Hope you have a great time now, you can relax and enjoy the Olympic Village

Not really. Due to Japan’s tight coronavirus restrictions, athletes must leave Japan 2 days after their final event to minimize the risk of infection and spread of the virus.

Why do we think it is necessary to spend thousands of dollars to send someone to Asia so they can run for a minute? No chance of winning or advancing to the next race.

These athletes should be privately funded. There is zero national benefit in sending here and it is just a personal experience for one person.

2.44pm It would have been worse if we sent a moron. The CIOC covers all expenses via the IOC and this young lady showed the flag for her country and thoroughly deserved the experience of a lifetime. Wait and see what she does in Paris in 2024.

No they are not an idiot. You are.

Why not spend that money sending a promising young Caymanian to medical school, or business school, or any fing school. No instead let’s send them to a farce athletic event and pretend that defines us as a country. Get a grip!

Personal Best? Interesting, as her entry time was 53.40, also listed as her season best.
