(CNS): Anyone who received their COVID-19 vaccination in the Cayman Islands will soon be able to access a digital vaccination certificate on-demand via the hospital’s MyHSA Patient Portal, officials from the Health Services Authority said, as the country prepares for travel restrictions being eased. The certificates are expected to be available by the middle of next month, officials have confirmed.

According to the latest numbers from public health, 49,086 people, or 69% of the estimated population in Cayman, have now been fully vaccinated and 51,078 have had at least one shot. However, this is well short of the government’s target of 80% of the population being fully inoculated against the virus by 9 September, when the airport is due to reopen to regular commercial air traffic.

HSA Deputy CEO Ronnie Dunn said the portal where people can access digital vaccine certificates is a valuable health information management tool that provides convenience and autonomy to patients.

“As travel restrictions ease, we want to ensure that persons who received the COVID-19 vaccine will have access to their immunization record on a secure platform from anywhere with internet connectivity,” he said.

Government is hosting a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, when it is expected to reveal whether it intends to continue with the plans to open the borders next month, as previously laid out, returning to the Open Skies agreement and allowing residents here to also travel again without justification.

While 9 September was the target date to return to commercial air travel, the circumstances surrounding quarantine and isolation measures were not due to be relaxed until October. Currently, people who have had a fully verifiable vaccine can self-isolate on trust for just five days on return from overseas travel.

Those who have been vaccinated but are unable to verify it are required to isolated for ten days using the GPS wrist band process, and those who are unvaccinated and vaccinated adults travelling with unvaccinated kids must quarantine for 14 days.

Anyone who wishes to access a vaccine certificate will need to sign for the MyHSA portal online or through the HealtheLife app, which can be found on either Google Play for Android devices or the App Store for iOS devices.

According to the HSA, signing up for the MyHSA Patient Portal takes less than three minutes on average and is available at any HSA location. Registration requires a photo ID and a valid email address. Parents and guardians can also request access to health profiles for their children or wards under age 16. Community registration will also be available on select dates at partner locations. Online registration will be made available soon for people who may already be overseas.

For more information visit the MyHSA Patient Portal.

Need some advice. We are scheduled to be in Cayman right after Christmas. A long delayed trip that has been moved down the road once already. We have 14 people making the trip and everybody is vaccinated except for a couple children that aren’t of age yet. We now read that in addition to being vaccinated, we have to have verifiable proof of the vaccination. As of now we have no verifiable proof other than our cards. We have no way to change this. We live in Pennsylvania, and they already said that there will be no central verification site. Does anyone think that this requirement will go away before the new year or should we just kick this vacation down the road yet again. Maybe we should find another island that actually want us to visit!

Will Cayman be accepting the US CDC vaccination card? If the CDC is not able to be digitally verified and quarantine is still in place then nothing has changed. People will not be booking holiday travel. Most states will not be going digital. Most people in the US did not get their vaccinations at CVS, Walmart or Walgreens, but at large vaccinations centers.

I got mine at CVS but when I inquired about SMART Health Card, after it was announced they’d be accepted in Cayman……was told they knew nothing about it. Online research showed that program was not operational yet and was still in progress. I’ll follow up again in a few weeks.

In the meantime, I’m requesting a copy of my vaccine from the state registry to have along with CDC card.

Why not just invest in a few of the chip readers?

Excellent news. We can now use this for easy entrance to bars restaurants and shops in cayman, and at check in when we travel – it’s inevitable when we open and get community spread they businesses and airlines will be tor the vaccinated only and hopefully this app makes it much simpler to enter venues. Well done HSA.

And what happens when your antibodies are negligible a few months later. Will you still walk around like a free range chicken.

      • Anni says:

Boosters will be coming in the next couple of months—just in time for those vaccinated first in January and February to get theirs at the recommended 8- month mark. It will boost our resistance to covid tremendously, and then we will be truly safe little “free-range chickens”-!☺️

Just going off of factual global numbers of actual deaths from COVid-19 these restrictions on freedom to travel at will without justification seems extreme as we now have to wait on government to decide whether WE, as informed adults, can move freely.
Look at France as protestors are over it and going into their 5th week of protests. Scotland seems very reluctant to role back Covid restrictions. I’m vaccinated but deep down and based on growing restrictions globally this seems worrying.

Another way for certificates could be to allow vaccination app system through the smart phone number they registered at vaccination time and even sending to those numbers. For those who didnt give number can go and give now. That is my sugestion based on some systems I am aware of.May be HSA did this way as they have patient portal for other services too.

Will we also need 80% to sign up for the app in order to borders?

The article mentions a press conference today where government is expected to reveal its plans!!! What time is it and how do we watch?

CNS: It scheduled for 3pm and will be live streamed on CIGTV YouTube channel.

Attend in person to sign up online. 🤣

Until someone behinds a computer requests and is given access to your complete medical history, then you will be questioning how the HSA made it so easy for people to get that information. This is medical records folks, there are special provisions to protect this information even in the constitution.

        • LE says:

I have yet to see anyone in the news in the Cayman lslands and not many in the USA write an article on the deaths and adverse events of the covid19 vaccines. A website that was established in 1990, the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) is a national early warning system to detect possible safety problems in U.S.-licensed vaccines. XXX

CNS: No one is writing about it, except to fact check, because it’s BS, stoked by Tucker Carlson and social media. Politifact – No truth that VAERS system shows 6,000 “died because of” COVID-19 vaccines

USA Today – Fact check: Vaccine Adverse Reporting System isn’t proof of COVID-19 vaccine deaths

Forbes – The Truth Behind Tucker Carlson’s Claims About Covid-19 Vaccine Deaths And The Government’s VAERS Database

          • LE says:

I could care less what Tucker Carlson, USAToday, Forbes or any other so-called news agency says. I specifically posted the Openvares website by name, and said they have reported over a half million adverse events and 13,068 deaths from Covid vaccines. You or anyone can call it what you will. But until you research the Openvares website and report what they have reported to the CDC and the FDA (which has been their job since 1990) then your publication isn’t any better than the so-called news listed above. Do your own investigative research, don’t listen to what other news agencies say. When you investigate Openvares website, I pray to God that you don’t call it BS. Also did you know that the UK also has a National Adverse Reporting System? They are reporting adverse events in the millions, and covid vaccine deaths in the 10s of thousands, but I’ll let you get your hands dirty, and investigate that without me giving you the name of their website, because I’m afraid you’ll call them BS TOO! GOD bless you!

CNS: The problem is you don’t understand what you are reading. It would help if you read some of the links I provided so that you understand what VAERS is, as explained by people who do understand. I very much doubt that you found the site accidentally. It seems likely that you were guided there by Facebook or a post on a duff site. This is the problem with social media – it’s just a swill of ignorance where people who know what they are talking about are shut out. Forbes becomes a “so-called news agency”.

“They are reporting adverse events in the millions, and covid vaccine deaths in the 10s of thousands,”.

This is absolute nonsense – I am from the UK and resident here, I follow UK news very closely, and I can 100% guarantee you this is 100% nonsense. There are almost no deaths attributed directly to AstraZeneca or Pfizer vaccines in the UK.

Watching Bermuda. Same vaccination rate as Cayman. Lots of new cases but few hospitalizations. Link below. If/when Cayman slightly opens up, this will be our experience. Not perfect, but I think ok.

I have spoken to my colleagues in Bermuda. All of them are ok with the low risk ( but not risk-free) approach.

We can’t keep this bubble indefinitely. It has worked remarkably well; no one thinks of COVID in Cayman. Probably the only place in this hemisphere that had holiday parties. And masks? What masks?

But time to rip the band aid off. This pathogen is endemic, and will be circulating globally forever. I just think it is time to at least allow residents to travel, by putting on daily flights on Cayman Airways. I’m ok with five days of quarantine. I’m weary of refreshing the CAL website 5 times a day hoping for an outward and inward flight. Some of us haven’t seen our parents in two years — it is very depressing 😀. It is very stressful. Mental health hasn’t been good this summer.

I live in the states and we had holiday parties. I go to the gym each day. I go to the bars, clubs, shopping, restaurants. The only place I have to wear a mask is at work because I work w/ at- risk population. Other than that, I’m fully vaccinated and no mask required. Not sure what you hear or read, but we are not been in a complete lockdown except the first month of the pandemic.
No one will travel there with a quarantine. There are so many other places to go with out one that people won’t pay to quarantine. There are many places with a beach and hot weather and quite honestly, much cheaper. Welcome back deals will also help because there are quite a few out there and once again, people are now used to traveling elsewhere. Repeat guests may be a thing of the past now that you’ve been closed for so long. Think Cayman will need to be real attractive to draw people back.

HealtheLife App does not appear to be available in the UK Apple App Store. What are the plans for those of us who don’t use the US Apple store?

Change to cayman. I couldn’t download earlier, so just changed in settings country to cayman and downloaded it. Simples.

    • Anonymous says:

I have downloaded the app but guess what – can’t access the HSA records because I don’t have the access codes which presumably I need to get from HSA by attending in person – except the can’t because I am overseas!

The Hotel California uses the same system.

  18. anon says:

Isn’t there another way to get this digital vaccine certificate? Why do I have to sign up to HSA’s online portal? I have no interest in that. First the push for us to get the vaccine, now cornering us to use HSA’s online service by providing no other option. This is garbage.

    • Anonymous says:

The HSA are the ones that are delivering all the shots and have all the records in Cayman. Any other solution would just be an unnecessary middleman between the HSA and yourself.

      • Anon says:

There was no middleman when HSA sent me my Covid test results the next day by email. What are you talking about. The HSA can send me the digital vaccine certificate by email too.

This is force for us to use their product. If you want to take up for them, at least keep it real. There does not have to be a middleman, and we do not need to use their product or service to get this digital vaccine certificate.

Except that the record isn’t static, what happens when you get the third dose and your record needs to be updated, send another 50,000 emails?

According to your article, if 49,086 people have had both shots, and 51,078 people have had 1 shot, once they have had their second shot, then 100,164 of the population will be vaccinated.
The figures seem incorrect. Otherwise we are 100% clear!

CNS: The second figure includes the first. Perhaps we should have said ‘at least one shot’ but we’ve been giving this information almost every day for months.
