Illegal edibles and marijuana seized by CBC

(CNS): Customs and Border Control said that they are worried about the “innocent appearance” of some cannabis edibles that were recently seized by officers and have released images of the ganja candies and cookies to remind residents that these are prohibited substances in the Cayman Islands.

Alongside three packets of marijuana in vegetable form, last month officers seized two packs of ‘Trips Ahoy Chunky Cookies’ containing 600mg of THC, two bags of ‘Cannabis Infused Chuckles Gummy Bears’ containing 400mg of THC and three packs of ‘Marijuana Sour Skittles’, all of which were concealed within other imported goods.

The cookies and candies as well as the package ganja are sold legally in Canada and some parts of the United States, which means that these goods are easy to source.

Customs pointed out that these edibles are not a new trend but they said they remain, “concerned with the innocent appearance of these drugs”, and had decided to publish the images to raise public awareness.

CBC stressed that the colourful and edible marijuana, though disguised as candy and food products, is a prohibited substance in the Cayman Islands.

Cannabis is only legal in Cayman when prescribed as a tincture or oil by a doctor. Without a prescription, consuming ganja remains a crime in the Cayman Islands.

However, Premier Wayne Panton announced during the delivery of the Strategic Policy Statement last month that the government intends to decriminalise ganja in small amounts, though no details have been released about these plans or whether the PACT Government is considering the possibility of allowing cultivation in order to supply the the medical cannabis sector.

Apologies Customs, I do have the invoices so I can pay the duty – please let me have my imports!

Just imagine how rich the country would be if we made this $hit legal and paid import duty on this stuff though!?!

The criminalization of cannabis has direct roots to putting young people of color into the criminal justice system and either keeping them there, or limiting their future opportunities for the rest of their lives.

While this is by no means an excuse to go ahead and break the law anyway (in my opinion, there is no excuse to break the law), it does give us incredible insight as to why cannabis was criminalized in the first place, and why it should have been decriminalized long ago.

Fighting a losing battle. Time to legalize.

    • Ex Pothead says:

Time to legalize?? Do you want people with a reduced rate of brain operation running the show? I have used marijuana……. I know it has a negative effect on ones ability to think properly. I would rather be around people able to think normally rather than people having reduced thinking ability. They do stupid things!…….. and you know that’s true.

      • Jus sayin says:

Reduced rate of brain operation? Lol ok buddy. I hate to break it to you but everything isn’t for everybody. Obviously it wasn’t for you but who are you to decide who it’s for?. How about we stick to the facts and leave your anecdotes out of it.

Try to follow your own advice, Jus. I stand by what I say. If you agree or don’t agree, it makes no difference to me.

I think it is nice that we can express ourselves without fear of the law!

HAHAHHAHAH Reduced rate of brain operation. Is this based on your viewing of Reefer madness?

Chemical laced grown Marijuana and I mean a lot of chemicals and will be a lot of zombies walking around soon.

      • Anonymous says:

Do you really believe that or are you just trolling? Which chemicals is it laced with? Sounds like some weak conspiracy bs made up to take advantage of the less intelligent people who struggle with critical thinking on their own.

Capitalist society is built on another psychoactive substance, caffeine. Any substance that puts you in anything else but a high strung and wired state of mind is demonized but in my opinion there is a time and place for all psychoactive substances. Criminalizing their use just makes it harder to use and study their affects responsibly.
