Burglars make off with restaurants’ safes

| 27/08/2021 | 29 Comments

(CNS): Chicken! Chicken! in the West Shore Centre and one of the restaurants in the Cayman Falls Plaza, both on the West Bay Road, were broken into sometime between 4:00am and 6:00am Thursday, police have said. The break-ins appear to be the work of the same burglars, who made off with both restaurants’ safes containing an undisclosed quantity of cash.

Based on CCTV footage, the men are described as being tall and slim, wearing dark clothing, including long sleeved shirts, and wearing masks and gloves. At Chicken-Chicken the masked thieves broke in through the glass front door.

Police have released some of the images (see above) and CCTV footage (see below) from the Chicken! Chicken! break-in, hoping that members of the public may be able to assist with information about these men or their activities that could identify them or help locate these safes.

With an uptick in commercial burglaries during August, the RCIPS is reminding people to take preventative measures with their businesses in order to avoid loss and damage, and assist in the investigative process if such incidents do occur.

“We commend these businesses for having security measures such as CCTV cameras installed, which have already assisted in our investigation,” Superintendent Peter Lansdown said. “We encourage other business to increase security if possible by engaging security company services, installing alarm and camera systems and ensuring that the systems are maintained and kept up to date.”

There has also been an increase in reports of thefts from motor vehicles over the last week, and the police are urging the public to exercise prevention measures to reduce this opportunistic crime.

They advised people not to leave visible valuables in the car or to keep any valuables overnight or for extended periods in cars. Drivers should park in well lit areas near security cameras or where guards are on duty. Above all, lock your car and do not leave vehicles running with the keys inside unattended, even for a short amount of time.

With roads expected to be busy this weekend as a result of last minute back to school preparations, the police also reminded the public to stay safe by not driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding or driving whilst distracted.

I am guessing it would be illegal to leave a #16 0725 Duke trap on the floor. I mean, somebody would have to break and enter in order to step on it and be caught.

I’d never steal from Chicken, Chicken! Whatever is in the safe will be a poultry amount.

How come no security guards at West Shore Plaza. Surely the owner could do this even if he has pass the cost to the tenants. It might also reduce insurance premiums.

Would be nice to know what districts cars are being broken into most so we can be aware or maybe even be able to handover our footage because most home owners have cameras now too… but the RCIPS decides to be as vague as possible.

I do not care what nationality they are. I just want the thugs caught. RCIPS please get with the program. Catch umm.

But if they are not Caymanian can they please be deported on completion of sentence, and can any employer that “put in a permit for them” without really having a need, please also be prosecuted?

Hello police….. look at the videos of the customers in the stores for the three to four days before the break in. They have cased those places several times.

What terrible is the landlord who now has had two of their malls burgled recently still refuses to have security for their tenants, as well as their cameras that don’t work!

At that time the island was still under the Tropical Storm Warning. Maybe the Police need to look at the CCTV cameras on West Bay Road . Shouldn’t be too difficult to spot the get away vehicle as the road were empty.

lmao @ you thinking those cameras are even usable – let alone good enough quality to identify the colour of a vechicle.

The CCTV has never helped with anything.

If RCIPS would treat criminals the way travel Cayman treats Covid violations we would have no crime issue.

There are multiple burglaries that are being kept under the wraps. Petty crime has skyrocketed over the last year. Wake up and put the fear of the law into these punks!

Not sure why they need gloves. CIG never implemented the gazillion dollar fingerprint system so they will never be found. Matches the useless CCTV and who knows if the RFID license plate readers even work given they are never mentioned.

    I smell fowl play

Looks like a right handed caymanian the second one. He doesn’t have the Jamaican walk

    Border closed, people hungry.

How exactly does an open border feed these despicable excuses for human beings? Animals like this wouldn’t work in tourism… they are clearly horrible people incapable of providing customer service as they rob restaurants. Catch them and give them 20 years minimum. Border closed can not and will never be a valid excuse for stealing from others and entering people’s property or anti social and intimidating behavior.

      No, they left the freezers.

Turn yourself in and her Majesty will feed you.

    • Rubbish says:

So why did they not take food?

      • Anonymous says:

u had food cooked there ready for consumption?? lets assume more right…

        • Anonymous says:

Oh, so if you are hungry you not only get a pass to break in and steal food, but it has to be prepared for you too. Hungry enough to break the law, but not hungry enough to steal raw chickens and cook it your self so forced ti steal the safe instead. Got it.

Business places should let CUC do the job. Hook them up direct.
