ALT holds back unvaxed staff bonuses

A.L. Thompson’s

(CNS): As implied in a previous letter last month, Cayman’s largest hardware merchant has held back bonuses for unvaccinated staff. Al Thompson had stopped short of mandating that his workers get the COVID-19 shots but tied the pay-out of a special annual bonus related to successful trading over the last 12 months to the vaccine status of his employees, which he had asked them to reveal.

In a follow-up letter, which is circulating on social media, he said that 91% of the staff had got the shots, leaving just 17 who had not and who did not get the bonus. Thompson said he would give them one more week to consider getting vaccinated and give the company time to decided how to deal with those who will not get the jab.

Thompson said that so far he had not mandated that staff be vaccinated but that his store had become the first company to pressure its employees and it may come to the point of mandating the vaccine as a condition of employment. He thanked all those who had got their shots and urged what he described as a great staff to “stick together” ahead of the country reopening its doors to overseas guests.

While Thompson, who is one of Cayman’s largest employers, may be able to mandate the vaccine as a future condition for new staff, sacking staff who are unvaccinated may fall foul of the Labour Law.

Last week Labour Minister Chris Saunders indicated that government will not be imposing a mandate beyond work permit holders and said that a legal opinion from the attorney general had advised against it.

The amendment to the immigration law to pave the way for mandatory coronavirus vaccination for permit holders is expected to be steered through Parliament by the middle of this month. It is hoped that this will boost the current national rate of around 67% of the resident population being vaccinated toward the government target of 80%.

Since no vaccine is yet approved for children under 12, to reach that target public health officials will need to inoculate nearly all adults living here, which presents a significant challenge as those who have not been vaccinated in Cayman, as elsewhere, range from the nervously hesitant who could be persuaded to the staunchly opposed.

There continues to be significant misinformation circulating on social media platforms, such as the apparently plausible but false claims that the vaccines are experimental, blatently false statements about dangerous ingredients that are not actually in the vaccine, to outrageous conspiracies of microchips being inserted with the vaccine.

Many misleading stories on social media about vaccinations have originated from just a dozen original sources, according to recent research, with the goal of peddling false cures and discrediting the vaccines.

      Or better yet,

This argument is starting to get old..

How many people are getting these debilitating side effects from the vaccine? You should be more worried if your insurance will cover you from Long Covid side effects.

I saw some idiot on Facebook posting crap that the government is covering up the side effects of the vaccine in Cayman. Another one joining him and going as far as saying that she went to the hospital they other night and the entire hospital Emergency waiting room was filled with people having side effects from the vaccine but the Government isn’t reporting it..These people just make me so angry with spreading all of this misinformation. Worse it’s people that I really expected better from.. Because they can no longer find anything to make their stupid conspiracy theories plausible they have come up with this foolishness. If anyone knows about Cayman, which these two should do, as they are generational Caymanians, nothing stays secret in Cayman. If that many people were in the Emergency room with Vaccine side effect you can be damn sure they would have been posting that to Marl Road or even here on CNS.

Please don’t listen to these idiots and go get vaccinated. It could save your life, your family and all those around you..and now, even better, you could be handed $100,000.

They will all get the vaccine once the border opens, especially now they know they can’t travel to Miami or anywhere if unvaccinated and will face restrictions when we open like no entry to shops and restaurants.

Buckle up people! As of Monday incoming travelers who have been vaccinated will no longer be monitored and their quarantine will be based on ‘trust’. More UK flights coming and increased chance of community spread. At least its a step in the right direction to getting this country opened up.

Let’s be reasonable here and look at facts:

    1) would you put your seatbelt on with Lewis Hamilton as the driver saying he’s going to drive 150mph?
    2) do you want to be able to freely shop, eat, drink in cayman and the rest of the world, and ever travel abroad from cayman in the future?
    3) would you put hurricane shutters up against an incoming category 5 hurricane?
    4) do you want to ever work in a job in cayman where you may have to face residents or tourists?
    5) would you wear a bullet proof vest if you were sent into a war zone?
    6) would you take a respected, proven vaccine against the greatest world public health crisis in a 100 years (Pfizer – covid) to protect yourself and others against death?

If you answer yes to 1 to 5 and no to 6, you are a very very selfish person.
    5) do you want to not be one of the only 20 people relying on a ventilator if we ever get community covid spread in cayman?

Actually, I got the vaccine to protect others who might not be able to for health reasons. Same way many children could survive measles however if they spread it to an infant too young to get vaccinated that infant would most certainly die, so people vaccinate children against measles. To protect the community as a whole. It sounds like you were raised selfish. Not everyone is. Please don’t put everyone in the selfish category as we are not the same.

  13. Anonymous says:

Is this legal? To hold back a bonus that someone has obviously earned by hard work is a low blow even for the likes of ALT.

  14. Anonymous says:

The problem is a lack of basic understanding of statistics by the horde calling for every single person to get vaccinated to protect society.

Look at the Pfizer 6 month trial results, which is public by the way. Around 22,000 participants in the vaccination group and 22,000 in the placebo group. Over the 6 months period (before Delta) 131 in the vaccine group got COVID and 1,034 in the control got COVID. They do some adjustments for vaccination timing and end up with vaccine efficacy of 91%. And even in the trail the efficacy wanes meaningfully towards the 6 month mark.

That is the past. All the recent delta outbreaks that had honest accounting whether it’s in the US or abroad show the vaccinated getting almost equally infected compared to the localized vaccine coverage. That’s as if the Pfizer vaccine group had say a range of 900-1,100 positive COVID cases compared to the 1,034 cases in the control. Meaning it does not work anymore. End of story. The unvaccinated aren’t any more or less of a threat to the spread of COVID than the vaccinated at this point.

For what it’s worth during the 6 month trial period 18 people died in the Pfizer group and 16 people in the control group. Covid killed 2 in control and Covid pneumonia killed 1 in the Pfizer. 5 heart failures in Pfizer and 1 heart failure in control…

And while the powers at be are still claiming some fantastic mortality reduction properties of the vaccines they have also fallen materially (or maybe they were never that high to begin with) if you look at the incremental deaths and hospitalizations of vaccinated vs unvaccinated in a few regions that dare to disclose that information.

Vaccinating every last person won’t get you back to normal and won’t prevent everyone from catching this disease when it arrives here.

            • Anonymous says:

The point is clear. All of those diseases are completely related to poor diet, processed food, drinking, smoking, excessive medications, bad habits, pollution, etc. but instead of focusing on them, they develop a ‘vaccine’ that gives Pfizer and others hundreds of billions and will make people more dependent on them. Not very difficult to see.

    • Anonymous says:

The fact is if you have a double Pfizer vaccine you are over 90 per cent less likely to end up in hospital and get sick, and at least 25% less likely to catch or spread any variant of covid. • Anonymous says:

According to the CDC 8 times less likely to catch it, 25 times less likely to be hospitalised or die. That’s way more protection than the 90% and 25% you cite. Rest absolutely spot on tho.

      Personal experience:

Sunday morning I went to ER with an injury in one of the large Florida hospitals. I was the one and only person at that time. They did test me for COVID, though I did not ask. The result was negative. The moral of the story: If my test was positive my “case” would have been added to the COVID statistics.

In the last 6 months I had traveled on 6 different airlines with layovers in many different European countries. On the long flights face masks were replaced every three hours and taken off during meals. I had few covid tests throughout my journey, all were negative.

    • Anonymous says:

Here are the stats you need to know. Right now in the US 40% of the adult population are unvaccinated but they make up 95% of the 50,000 hospitalised. At least in the US they have lots of experience treating it. Good luck to anyone who catches it here.

Perhaps a better way to have dealt with this would to have offered an additional bonus scheme to those who decided to get vaccinated rather than remove one from those already under a working contract. There’s a principle missing in method that I just don’t like.

You’re right, it’s discrimination against those not vaccinated. Al T can argue that the bonus is discretionary, but if the only difference in getting it or not getting it is down to being vaccinated, which is not in the employee’s contract terms, then the non-vaccinated are being treated unfairly and technically would have a good case at a tribunal.

      • Anonymous says:

  18. Anonymous says:

The virus is going to get you whether you’re vaccinated or not, IF it’s going to get you. Most of us won’t even know we had it. And that’s a perspective that we need to stop forgetting.

A bit of perspective is always handy. Try to take a look at probability and possibility. Here’s one for you –

It is possible that you will win the lottery.

It is not probable that you will win the lottery.

If you can see the difference there between possible and probable, you can try to apply that to most things in life and also to Covid19 and your actual risk from it.

It is possible you will die from Covid19.

It is probable you will not die from Covid19.

There is no grey area here, just pure data taken from the pandemic so far. Hardly anyone (in raw statistics) dies from it. Those that do are overwhelmingly either very old (usually past the average age of death anyhow), or have underlying illness or obesity.

The way in which the world has gone about handling COVID19 is so far beyond any relation to the risks of COVID19, you have to wonder have we all had a lobotomy?

This isn’t random speculation, its actually what is happening all over the world. Something along the lines of 0.003% is the death rate – which is not even 10% of how many people die globally every year. And yet we’re going after everybody. Why? There’s no risk to over 99.5% of us.

The point is – if you’re able to just for a moment take a risk assessment and look at the difference between probability and possibility, you’d be amazed how easy it would be to stop being scared all the time, to calm down and to live.

I do wish government would look at this objectively also and simply look at the maths.

And whilst we’re on the theme of logic (which seems to have been thrown out of the equation since early 2020), try to take a long think about the quarantine rules –

there is absolutely no basis for differentiating between vaccinated and unvaccinated persons anywhere actually, but certainly not in quarantine. The purpose we’re told for quarantine is to stop the spread of covid 19 into the country.

Well, vaccinated people catch covid19 and spread it. So do unvaccinated people.

The unvaccinated people actually tend to ‘show’ its symptoms far more obviously than the vaccinated. This would mean we’d be better off having the VACCINATED stay longer in quarantine (if we were being logical).

To suggest that quarantine differences (5 days to 14 days) has any basis in logic when there is clear evidence globally that vaccinated persons catch, carry and spread covid19 (and also die from it) is nonsense. Pure nonsense.

I wonder when the Govt will be sued about this discrimination. Either everyone goes to zero days, or 5 days, or 14 days…but there is no logic for differences in quarantine periods as we know that everybody is just as susceptible (give or take a few percents) to catching or spreading the virus.

As to ALT – that’s just remarkably silly what he’s done. But its a private business, can likely do what he wants. Just like green lighting all the development that has caused utter chaos in Cayman over the years, he’s now causing chaos in his store.

A Smith Cove protest wouldn’t go amiss.

If Al’T wants to give a bonus to those who have taken the vaccine that is is choice, just like it is the choice of the anti-vaxxer not to take the vaccine.

I would suggest that when we open the borders that if any of the anti-vaxxers are front line staff that he has them tested regularly or reassign them to back office duties.

      • Rick says:

They are being denied pay. The employees accepted the job based on pay for performance, not compliance with vaccination mandates. • Anonymous says:

But it is not a requirement of your employment like your working hours, etc. Otherwise it would not be ‘voluntary’ and tied to your bonus. Can’t have it both ways.

I am a firm believer in getting vaccinated to protect myself, my family and my community. Others are afraid of any kind of needle. For those who are, perhaps they could be given the option of daily PCR tests at their own expense which would limit the amount of damage that the unvaccinated can do once we open?

    • Anonymous says:

      Or just forfeit the bonus?

      • Anonymous says:

The trouble with that (forfeiting the bonus)is the lack of connection to what ALT is, I assume (I may be wrong), attempting to achieve, i.e. keeping his staff and the public visiting his store, safe. An unvaxed staff member is still an unvaxed staff member, bonus or not.

So ALTs logical conclusion is somewhat unclear.

I’m not taking sides here just trying to reason the logic.

    • Anonymous says:

If you are so confident in the vaccine, why are you worried about what damage the unvaccinated can do? You shouldn’t get sick nor supposedly anyone else that is vaccinated. Us vaccinated people can do just as much damage especially with Delta, we can catch it and transmit it.

    • Anonymous says:

Ideally a vaccine should be taken to protect self, nobody else. The vaccine should protect you and only you.

    • Anonymous says:

You walking around thinking you are safe and wanting open borders is what will lead to community transmission and deaths. For sure vaccinated people will end up in hospital too.

  22. Anonymous says:

Well done ALT. Setting a great example. The future, as we all know covid is never going away, will see the same in cayman as we now see in the USA and Europe – only vaccinated can travel, enter bars and restaurants, go to public gatherings or shows and concerts and work in any job where you have contact with the public. It’s the safest and most appropriate way to operate and al Thompson’s should be congratulated on taking the initiative.

  24. Caymanian Employer says:

It astounds me that there are people who still think that a bonus is a right. It is not! It is a reward given at the total discretion of the giver. You may think you have earned a bonus but just doing your job for which you are paid or not taking sick leave for illegal reasons (i.e. when not actually sick) does not entitle you to a bonus. To ensure a bonus it has to be in the contract of employment as a productivity payment I am sure. Something a large proportion of the workforce would not attain,

    • Anonymous says:

What is astounding is you are missing the point entirely and not seeing how this is blatantly wrong on a human level. The fact that a bonus is not a right may be correct but the intention behind with which this has been taken from many is disgusting to say the least and people who back this action and have this mindset are the ones who would have been on the wrong side of history, welcoming in discrimination and bigger picture, communism.

      • Anonymous says:

An employer is perfectly entitled to view willful failure to be vaccinated, and potentially endangering colleagues and customers, not to mention the economy as a whole and the livelihoods of thousands of others by keeping numbers below those needed to reopen the borders, as behavior falling short of the good performance needed to warrant a bonus.

        It’s pretty simple really.

      • Caymanian Employer says:

It is the individuals choice not to get vaccinated OK. But, their choice is affecting other people. It is the individuals choice (in this case ALT) who he gives a bonus to. Yes his choice is affecting others. It is obvious that both parties are exercising their respective rights. So why is one acceptable and the other isn’t?

Ignorant people are mostly certain and astounded when their certainty is not validated. It might interest you to know that some employers who pay next to slave wages encourage their workers to perform so that they can earn bonuses (or gratuity) based on earnings. These employees depend on the bonus (gratuity) as earnings because salary is way below living wages. Yes, bonuses under those conditions, are a right. You earned it and it is yours, and not subject to arbitrary mandates by your employer. Of course, you are probably getting well paid simply for showing up at work and would know nothing about that. Speak to a few of the indentured workers around here. They will put you straight.

The vaccines are not effective against catching the delta variant, only at preventing serious illness and death in some NOT all. The viral load is the same in vaccinated and unvaccinated with the delta, therefore you can still give it to the children. I personally have had a doctor at HSA tell me that they can’t discuss their personal opinion on the vaccines.

People are having some serious short-term side effects, but those certainly are not discussed locally.

There are studies indicating difference efficacy rates for the same vaccine against Delta infection ranging from 40% to 80%, so who really knows. The only thing the studies seem to agree on are that in most it will prevent serious illness or hospitalization, however people have died from Delta after being fully vaccinated.

FDA is expected to give full approval in the coming months. Would that change your decision? Long term side effects are not expected to be an issue. If there were any, we would have seen them by now in the phase 3 experimental group. You do realize a vaccine needs to go through extensive testing just to secure an EUA right?

“Have you ever had to sign a consent form before to receive a vaccine! NO, why do you think that is required, because it is experimental and you are signing your right away to sue if there are long term consequences of the vaccine. Once they are granted full approval, a consent form will not be required.”

You still won’t be able to sue after full FDA approval. It wasn’t a problem for any other vaccine and it won’t be an issue for this one. Keep in mind, 20 years of data has proven vaccines are safe to take and once a vaccine has been approved for use, it has never once been recalled. This is the reason vaccine manufacturers have been granted this by law in the US:

      42 U.S. Code § 300aa–22 – Standards of responsibility
No vaccine manufacturer shall be liable in a civil action for damages arising from a vaccine-related injury or death associated with the administration of a vaccine after October 1, 1988, if the injury or death resulted from side effects that were unavoidable even though the vaccine was properly prepared and was accompanied by proper directions and warnings.

“Stop attacking people that are making decisions for themselves when it comes to their own health. What next, are you going to force those with Cancer to take treatment if they prefer quality of life over quantity?”

Cancer is not contagious, Covid is. You refusing the vaccine does impact others around you. This argument is a false equivalency.

“I have sat back and listened to the diatribe by the media and posters enough. Leave people alone and let them decide. Start publishing both sides of the argument instead of being so biased. There is no “both sides” there is the science, and there is rubbish. You’re paranoia and your misinformation don’t belong on the same shelf as Science and Fact. You are absolutely free not to take the vaccine but don’t expect businesses and government make your life easy for this decision. Try not paying your taxes and see what happens…

The vaccine actually does decrease your chance of contracting Covid by at least 3x lower from the Delta variant… so you’re wrong once again.

      • Anonymous says:

For your information I have been vaccinated! I am just sick and tired of the condescending, self-righteous, arrogant individuals on this forum. Do you see the unvaccinated spewing vitriol at the vaccinated?

The only reason they are trying to get full FDA approval before 2023 which was the expected date is to try to get those that are not vaccinated to change their mind. Obviously you don’t know the meaning of long-term, a relatively small number of people in a limited study for less than a year is NOT long-term. Millions of people being vaccinated for a year and not being followed or studied is not long term. “Long term side effects are not expected to be an issue.” Obviously that is what they think and hope, but they don’t know. We don’t expect a lot of things to happen, but they end up happening.

You do hear what you are saying correct? “20 years of data has proven vaccines are safe to take and once a vaccine has been approved for use”. They have spent more time developing and studying these vaccines, that is what has makes them proven safe. The mRNA vaccines are new technology never used in humans before.

There are two sides and it is based on science, I once again reiterate there are risks with taking the vaccine and risks with not taking it. It is wise to consider all possible outcomes when making decisions. It seems to me that the aggressiveness of people on here against people who don’t want to take the vaccine, indicates that you are bereft of understanding and consideration of why they are making that decision. Don’t get me wrong, if people are deciding not to get it because of this nonsense about microchips, making you magnetic, etc. that is not a legitimate reason. As for infertility, obviously at this point that would be too early to tell, as the window of testing and the length of time people have been vaccinated is too short. If people keep themselves informed they will discover the impact it is having in women’s breasts and effects on menstrual cycles.

Your one link is irrelevant, the studies keep coming and they keep showing different results on contracting the Delta variant. The only commonality is the prevention of serious illness and death. The decision making process for a 20 year old is going to be very different than a 40, 50 or 60 year old.

Both the vaccinated and unvaccinated need to stop behaving like ostriches.

    • Anonymous says:

So the fact that the vaccine is “only” effective at preventing serious illness or death isn’t enough of a reason to get it? Jesus wept.

To focus on a few of the more glaringly bad points that you make:

      1) I have signed a consent form every year when I get my flu vaccine. I have signed a consent form for every vaccination my child has got. I have signed a consent form every time I have had surgical treatment. Attempting to use the need for signing a consent form to suggest some sort of extraordinary or unusual risk is not simply wrong, it is dishonest.

      2) It is impossible to know what the long term effects are of anything until the long term has been reached. On your model, no medical treatment could possibly be approved until many years after it was developed. That is simply not the way that medical testing works, not least because side effects of a vaccine almost invariably become apparent within a matter of a few weeks.

3)https://www.uab.edu/reporter/resources/be-healthy/item/9544-what-are-the-long-term-side-effects-of-covid-vaccines-3-things-to-know may be a useful read on how vaccines work, in particular how long the actual vaccine remains in the system (as opposed to the immunity it provokes) and how the scale of Covid vaccination provides an almost unprecedented data set from which to draw conclusions.

      4) Cancer is a poor analogy, as it is not infectious, nor susceptible to vaccination, and therefore poses zero risk to others in the community. That is not the case here: at the very least, someone who can be vaccinated but refuses to be materially increases the risk to those who cannot be.

      5) The Delta variant is one of a number of variants. The current data shows not only that vaccination does reduce the risk of infection with other variants very significantly, but also that the risk of infection with Delta is mitigated (see Imperial College REACT-1 study, concluding that vaccinated people were approximately 50-60% less likely to become infected).

      6) The reason that one side of the argument is favoured is because it is backed up with a wealth of rigorous scientific data as opposed to rumour and conspiracy theory.

      7) Even if it was right that “Short term effects some are having” are being concealed as the result of a conspiracy between the entirety of the local medical profession, not all of whom work for the HSA (which is perhaps a little unlikely), short term side effects are an astonishingly poor reason not to take a vaccine which substantially reduces the risk of serious illness.

      8) It is of course entirely proper that people should make decisions for themselves. However, when those decisions are based on a flawed premise, it is unreasonable to expect not to be called out on that, or indeed to be exposed to potentially negative consequences.

Covid vaccines have been approved for emergency use because there is an emergency, and approach you take is no different from running away from the lifeboats on the Titanic because you aren’t certain whether they will float. I hope that there are still some left when you finally realise that they do.

      • Anonymous says:

        1) Of course you have to give consent for children. I have never taken a flu vaccine, therefore I cannot comment on that. However, in the last 4 years, I have received a booster shot, Hep A, Hep B and NO I was not required to sign a consent form.

        2) Exactly my point, right now we are all guinea pigs. Normally individuals sign up and agree to be part of medical studies, they are not forced into it. Obviously we are grateful to those individuals so medical treatments can be approved, however approval generally takes much longer than a year.

        3) The key here being conventional vaccines that have been tested over time, not mRNA ones and testing/development of less than a year. Personally I regret taking this vaccine, my preference would have been to hold out for a different vaccine, but the approval date keeps being pushed due to manufacturing issues.

        4) Human rights.

        5) I didn’t say it wasn’t mitigated, but at a much lower percentage than the other variants.

        6) I am not referring to conspiracy theories, I think you are stretching it a bit to say it is rigorous scientific data, how many people are they really following after taking the vaccine? It seems like people don’t care about those that have had negative side effects, maybe they would if it was their loved one.

        7) I am referring to all side effects, some short some long. I am not going to get into specifics, but I personally know people who have had life altering effects. Not just here – the doctors are always saying undiagnosed preexisting conditions. There is no way to know if it was preexisting if it wasn’t an issue prior to the vaccine, one could logically deduce that it was brought on by the vaccine. Don’t fool yourself into believing that all doctors and nurses are on board with this vaccine, here or throughout the world. I have talked to some doctors here and abroad with mixed reactions. One who is not comfortable with it, but took it. One who very conveniently said they encourage all their patients to take it, but didn’t indicate if they did or not. Read between the lines. One that said they wouldn’t have taken it, but for the reason they had to travel. A few nurses, who encourage all other vaccines are refusing to take it up to this point.

        8) Not all people that refusing to take the vaccine have fallen down the conspiracy theory rabbit hole.

        9) Not applicable, as I have stated earlier I have taken it!

Employers have a responsibility which goes beyond the individual. They have a responsibility to ensure that everyone in their environment is safe and this means encouraging vaccinations in anyway they can.

YOU CNS are NOW spreading misinformation!

    Lets see you post this!

CNS: It’s amazing, and depressing, how often people post links without reading them properly, or at all. I think you just found the heading on Google and rushed to try to prove whatever point you thought you were making. So, first look at the date of that page on the NIH. It’s more than a year old (July 2020). Then read this: FALSE: COVID-19 vaccines are experimental

Or the FDA: Emergency Use Authorization for Vaccines Explained

However, you might also want to actually read the page you linked. It’s very informative.

Anti-vaxxers grasping at straws and unable to understand a year 10 biology textbook. Then telling us the vaccine is bad. Am I the only one getting sick of debunking their rubbish information?

      • Anonymous says:

You mean like your total mis-understanding of ‘anti-vaxxer’? Get a life and stop vilifying just because not everyone agrees with your viewpoint.

    Disgusting precedent being set here.

Well done ALT leading from the front .

Shame PACT won’t follow suit with Civil Servants

We need more “No Vax Taxes”!

  42. Anonymous says:

Government cannot lawfully mandate it for work permit holders without also mandating it for expatriate civil servants.

People do realize that you are not entitled to a bonus, you are only entitled to you monthly salary. A bonus is an extra gift that the company chooses to give to their staff.

    • Anonymous says:

You’re talking to people who view sick days as an extension of their paid vacation.

    • Anonymous says:

You are blatantly wrong. My company actually includes details about a bonus (if/when) in my contract.
Maybe that applies to the lame company where you work but unless you know, just keep your trap shut.
Even word your response as a question not like you are full of knowledge. If you really ARE, then state that you work for AT’s and know this for a fact..
I mean I am sure those 17 people will really miss that $100 gift card (to be spent at AT’s lol jk)

    • Anonymous says:

Agreed. It is someone’s right not be be vaccinated but it is also the right of the employer to not give a bonus. It is not illegal it is discretionary. To the people dissing ALT etc, you can’t have it both ways with regards to rights.

  44. Anonymous says:

    Thank you Al’t!

Where are all of the other large employers? No cajones? Where is the Chamber of Commerce Members? They need to step up before the border opens and have their employees get at least the first shot before they re-open. If they decide not to take the shot there needs to be a ongoing testing program in place.

All Government front-line people should be vaccinated or at the very least tested on a regular basis as well.

    • Chris Johnson says:

I agree. Well done Al T. Not only does the chamber need do something but what about all the churches. They should be encouraging their flock to get a jab or two.

    • Anonymous says:

Why in the world would you thank ALT for systematic discrimination and dehumanisation?

You notice that the larger the “us” herd gets, the more they approve of discrimination of the “them”? Yeah. Not the first time in history. The herding instinct is strong with you.

I have taken the jab. Wish I hadn’t. I won’t help you applaud the denigration of our fellow citizens. I feel sorry for you. Truly.

  45. Anonymous says:

    Sad sad sad

  46. Anonymous says:

I wonder how much the bonus is? A $100 gift certificate to ALT?

    • Anonymous says:

      More than you’ll be getting…

      • Over the BS says:

I actually have an amazing boss who does NOT force or pressure any of us into taking some vaccine. They understand that we all as individuals have the right to decide for ourselves. I get huge bonuses every year, my employers recognize that we as employees are the backbone of the company, so na honey I am just fine.

        • Anonymous says:

Oh My, don’t try to be logical… Caymanians hate logic. Let’s see, we elect a convicted felon. We elect an admitted domestic violence offender. We elect stupid guys that look at the moon to… Oh never mind.

        • Anonymous says:

And I suspect you are lying!!!!!

        • Anonymous says:

Most often, to get a HUGE bonus every year, you have to be smart. Since you’re obviously stupid, you’re probably lying.

  47. Anonymous says:

Good for ALT! You ask most of the unvaxed why and they will give you the stupidest reasons – most based on false information and conspiracy theories. Well stupid people, you can’t take a conspiracy theory to the bank like a bonus cheque!

    • Anonymous says:

I doubt very seriously if you could handle a true sit-down debate. I doubt very seriously you’ve done a fraction of the vetted medical research I have, or even that you could understand what you are reading if you had.

You are part of the happy herd that enjoys being on the winning side. Intelligent, confident people are willing to change their minds when presented with persuasive intel they’ve not seen before; not you though. You would stick to your great guns of persecution until the very end.

I imagine you a person who keeps talking louder and louder, until the person you are “debating” with just gives up. I feel sorry for you. You’ll have an opportunity to look back on these days in the future and evaluate your humanity.

      Be safe.

21st Century Primitive Homo Sapiens can find NO consensus on how to eradicate Covid-19.

    Covid-19 Wins!

    • Anonymous says:

A formidable opponent wins by exploiting a weakness. Humans are becoming more selfish and individualistic so less likely to work together for the common good. This is our weakness, a virus sooner or later will wipe us out if we don’t come together.

    • Anonymous says:

We have a consensus, the solution is the vaccine. The majority of people on island have taken it. Therefore humanity wins. The few idiots who decide not to take it will have to deal with the consequences of that action. Maybe nothing happens to them, maybe they get sick and hospitalized or die. That’s their decision and I can’t for the life of me figure out why we are all held hostage by a stubborn minority.

      • Anonymous says:

Because the stupid, ignorant, stubborn MINORITY will doom the majority – the/any virus is smarter than they are and will prevail. Sad, but true. The stupid is our anchor! We will sink with it.

      • Anonymous says:

Hostage? you are the one wanting to bring an epidemic to Cayman. The current system works. We are lucky we don’t have lockdowns/deaths. It will be ironic when you must vaccinate open border types end up in hospital because you up ended the quarantine controls in place. I am sure ALT is making money, Kirks, Fosters and all the law firms. Commerce here probably had its best year ever with he lack of flying off to Miami.
