CUC crews work to restore power in East End following TS Grace

(CNS): CUC has now reconnected all but 600 homes in the islandwide effort to restore power to everyone in the wake of Hurricane Grace. At 4:15pm on Friday, officials confirmed that 600 of their more than 31,000 customers had still not yet been reconnected as a result of fallen trees on poles and other damage.

Since Wednesday evening, CUC said its crews and contractors have been working 16-hour shifts and the necessary repairs continue. Crews are currently working in the large outage areas of East End and Omega Bay and are preparing to move into the Beach Bay area. It is anticipated that power will be restored to these areas tonight.

Anyone without power after midnight tonight is asked to leave a message on the Outage Hotline at 945-1282, which is being monitored by the CUC team.

People can also visit the CUC Outage Map for restoration updates.

Updates are also being posted on CUC’s social media platforms.

To report downed power lines, fires or other electrical safety issues, call 911.

Well at least CUC don’t charge much for their third world low grade diesel burning services!

The fully vaccinated must be the first to have their power restored.

What I don’t understand is why CUC doesn’t go around the island every year before hurricane season to cut down and trim back the trees that will impact their power lines. I mean if they don’t want to put the wires in underground conduit then just go around and cut back the trees. It is a very simple exercise that can help tremendously. According to this article they are spending 16 hour shifts to re connect customers when they could of circumvented that by trimming trees and checking the poles for any instability or issues. Another thing is I simply do not understand the logic of people planting trees that will directly interfere with the power lines when a storm comes and then when the said trees take out the power lines they bitch at CUC to get the power back on if they are not doing it fast enough. CUC could also invest in the cement poles I have seen throughout parts of the island. Maybe if CUC did some informational videos on how to not mess up their power lines with trees then people would pay attention. However common sense on the part of the consumer would have to exist and sadly that is lacking these days.

Shouldn’t homeowners sort their own shit??

Trim back the brush around the island, but cement poles. Every other week someone is running in to them. Cement poles would be even more dangerous.

9.24am How many power failures are caused by our world class drivers who simply cannot resist driving into light poles that so annoyingly get in their way.

Promises promises, we not getting power by midnight tonight as promised. Promised by 9pm yesterday but CUC never showed. Being realistic counts, who are the clowns surveying the damage/workload/scheduling? Time to train up the Regiment to help out with reconnections CUC can’t handle it alone.
