Turner challenges vaccine misinformation

Health Minister Sabrina Turner delivers message about COVID misinformation

(CNS): Health Minister Sabrina Turner has appealed to the public to use good judgement and common sense over the misinformation about the COVID-19 vaccine circulating on social media and being promoted in the local community. She asked people to learn the facts and data about the vaccine from sources like the World Health Organization or the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Cayman has reached a plateau with its vaccination programme and over the last few weeks the number of people seeking out the vaccine slowed to a trickle. On Friday public health officials revealed that 126 people had got their first shot and 275 had completed the two-dose course over the last day, with the national rate still stuck at 67% fully vaccinated.

In an interview with Donna Bush on CIGTV, Turner said the vaccination has been scientifically proven to be the best available form of defence against COVID-19. The minister warned that the unvaccinated are putting themselves and their loved ones at greater risk of getting sick from the coronavirus.

Despite the government’s best efforts at education, Turner accepted that some people will remain anti-vaccine and there would be no mandate for people to get the shots, but she said that people needed to be aware what it means not to be vaccinated.

“We are respectful as well of those who are against vaccination. We’re not radical, we’re not dictators,” she said, adding that the primary concern was keeping people safe. “We have to respect the rights of people. I don’t feel that any point in time ever was it pushed from this ministry, myself or my government that anything would be mandatory.”

But she added that people “should be fully aware and alert that, based on what we’re seeing, if you choose not to [be vaccinated] for whatever reason, your risk of contracting this with long-term side effects and possible long life-lasting damages could be much more severe than somebody who has some form of armour or protection… I’m hoping that the majority will prevail, and at some point in time they will see the importance of having the vaccine and making sure that they’re vaccinated, so that you’re not faced full-blown with having no form of coverage whatsoever.”

A global public health concern around vaccine misinformation is the risk of it leading to a reduction in vaccine uptake. In 2019, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the World Health Organization listed vaccine hesitancy as one of the top 10 threats to global public health.

Minister Turner said data was critical and exposure to misinformation about COVID-19 vaccines may lower an individual’s intent to get vaccinated against the disease. A recent study has found that “scientific sounding” misinformation, using imagery or links to articles, was more strongly associated with a decrease in vaccination intent. She noted a London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine survey that found that 6.2% of participants exposed to vaccine misinformation who had planned to get vaccinated changed their minds, and urged people to use reputable sources to get informed about the COVID-19 vaccine.

It is now less than six weeks before Cayman opens its borders and just over a week before government plans to stop electronically monitoring vaccinated people in home isolation and allowing them to quarantine on trust.

One more person currently in isolation tested positive over the last day. There are currently ten active cases of the virus among those who are in quarantine either at a home or in a government facility, one of whom remains in hospital, though they are said to be recovering. Four others are also suffering some symptoms of the coronavirus.

So weird that anti-vaccine zealots are also the most eager to accept unproven medical quackery claims (Hydroxychloroquine, homeopathic water, reiki, etc.)

It just shows that there is no reason or logic to be found in their way of thinking.

The Minister and her Ministry have shown no substantial innovation in getting people to show up to get vaccinated and little to bring vaccinations to the people. Other countries have identified simple effective techniques that work. Time for someone in Cayman to light a fire under somebody’s bottom.

I am in favour of vaccination and in favour of protecting our population. I am not too sure about forcing people to get vaccinated. Fortunately there in another option.

Some countries are now saying that for jobs working with the public that people should have the option of either being vaccinated OR having a PCR test either daily or every couple of days at their own expense. That minimizes risk to the public and allows for people who have concerns about vaccination to work without putting other people at risk.

    • Anonymous says:

I’d be cool with that plan. Get the free vaccine or pay daily to be tested. Choices.

    • Anonymous says:

If ppl who are vaccinated can also still get it, what’s the point in only having a PCR test for ppl who aren’t?

  4. JTB says:

Take the vaccine or not. It’s your choice – and there’s plenty of information out there to help you make it an informed one.

But, now that everyone who wants the vaccine has had it, can we please reopen the borders without any further delay? What possible purpose does it serve to keep the economy strangled and the people captive?

Let the unvaccinated deal with the consequences of their choice – why should the rest of us pay the price for it?

    • Anonymous says:

Beause we’ll pay more when Covid comes in and unvaxinated people end up in the hospital?

But you are right as to how this eventually plays out with reoipenning. My expectation is the Government iwll stick to their timetable regardless of the success of any last vaccination push.

    In this corner
The vaccinated are armed, ready and is being guided by the science.

    And in this corner
    The unvaccinated.
There are questions that you must answer, as you are relying on you for survival of the fittest.

Are you healthy, do you have any underlying illness (es).
Will you go in isolation until the battle is over.
Are you able to: avoid travel, avoid eating in restaurants, avoid public space, avoid gathering, public events, avoid discotheque ,bars and avoid supermarkets.
Where are you getting your guidance from?

Once the borders are open, unless you are able to isolate from the world, you will be batting out. Are you ready?

    • Anonymous says:

You can’t prevent people from going to supermarkets. Everyone needs to eat and be able to get their groceries. Nor can you prevent people from leaving the island, especially those who have multiple citizenships. Resturant’s, public gathering etc are not a necessity. They can be nice but you don’t have to go or participate.

Furthermore, the vaccine does not stop you from getting Covid so you’ll see the virus spreading throughout the vaccinated holier than thou crowd too. Won’t be able to blame the unvaccinated for it either since it will be just ya’ll “allowed”

      • Anonymous says:

Are you reading to respond or reading to understand? Those are questions for you to consider, if you are not getting vaccinated.

Actually 9:23 am, it is possible that other countries may mandate against accepting unvaccinated persons, in case of which the airlines may very well refuse to take such persons onboard. Why? Money. In those cases the airline would have to return those said passengers.

      • Anonymous says:

Curbside pickup can be required vs entering supermarket.

It’s not the leaving island that will be a restricted, it’s the returning. Multiple citizenship makes no difference.

There are billions of people in the world that are unvaccinated and they all seem to be doing fine

It’s interesting that vaccinated people are so easily certain that they’re doing the only right thing despite so much evidence around them showing there are other ways

The buyers remorse is setting in, you can taste it

    • Whatever says:

Except for the ones dying in hospitals from this, begging for the vaccine with their last breaths and being told it’s too late, right?

I’m fine with you not getting it, as long as the gov accepts that’s your position and doesn’t hold me responsible for your choices.

      • Anonymous says:

Maybe they’re actually begging for ivermectin rather than a vaccine, because there are also people in hospital who have had the shot.

How many of the positives in cayman have had the shot, why is this info not available?

Today Germany announced that it was making booster doses available as of 1 September. Hopefully we will do that in Cayman rather than have them go to waste.

    • Anonymous says:

Hopefully we will do a lot of sensible things other countries are doing like travel abroad for vaccinated, booster shots, only allowing vaccinated in public events and shows like New York, only vaccinated in bars and restaurants like Europe etc etc – but right now this non world class system we have here seems to be doing nothing at all.

9.25am Really? Did you bother doing any basic research? How about quick one for Israel. Taken straight from government reported website:

            July 18- July 24

            Total infected: 5,065
            Total infected fully vaccinated: 4,262
            Total infected unvaccinated: 803
Total infected fully vaccinated / total infected: 84%, which is higher than fully vaccinated rate in country.

Let’s hope the policy makers in Cayman aren’t innumerate. And this is not isolated. You got to look at these infections and results at the margin not at what happened several months ago.

CNS: I admit defeat. I could not find this info on the Israeli government website. Perhaps you could help us with that. This is the most recent news article I could find – HAARETZ: Israeli Top Health Official Says Rise in COVID Cases Is ‘Worrying’

“A day after it recorded the most new daily cases since the start of the pandemic, Florida on Sunday broke a previous record for current hospitalisations, as the number of patients in hospitals because of Covid-19 once again broke through the 10,000-person threshold.

It had 10,207 people in hospital with confirmed Covid-19 cases, according to data reported to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, Associated Press reports.

The previous record was from more than a year ago, July 23, 2020, more than a half-year before vaccinations started becoming widespread, when Florida had 10,170 hospital admissions.

Florida is now leading the US in per capita hospitalisations for the virus, as hospitals around the state report having to put emergency room visitors in beds in hallways and others document a noticeable drop in the age of patients.”

I wouldn’t care if people choose to not get vaccinated if the rest of us weren’t being restricted due to their unvaccinated status.

Wayne is adamant that we have to hit 80% of his made up population number and therefore the choice to be unvaccinated affects the entire damn country. Wayne needs to reevaluate his stance and set an opening date. The unvaccinated will either continue on blissfully or change their tune. Either way, the rest of us aren’t hostage.

Personal responsibility is perfectly okay with me. I’m vaccinated so even if I catch it, odds are extremely low that I’d get very sick.

Something is fishy. Weird article about “summer sniffles”. Really weird. First of all, why not to name it common cold and flu and invent “summer sniffles” instead?

Secondly, why to bring ventilators into it? Since when people even go to see a doctor having common cold and flu? Never heard of people with common cold and flu on ventilators unless, may be, severe pneumonia develops?

Why even have an article about “summer sniffles” unless this is an unsuccessful attempt to cover something up, for it raises more questions.

After reading today’s headline “ Chaos over true daily COVID deaths figure: Florida and Delaware skew Johns Hopkins’ stats with massive data dump taking total up by 300% – but true figure is significantly lower ”
WHO ARE WE SUPPOSED to TRUST? Nobody!

    • Anonymous says:

Those with “summer sniffles” probably have Covid. This variant is definitely presenting that way. Of course, people here think only those travelers in quarantine could possibly be positive and/or spread it. The truth is, it’s probably already in the community because we have front line workers that aren’t vaccinated and are therefore more likely to catch/spread it.

If someone is counting “summer sniffles”, they have nothing else to do. In fact, how do they even count it? Do people with sniffles go to ER? Do doctors report daily (where and why? ) patients with sniffles? Why nobody seem to know how many have cancer? Just bizarre article, indeed.

Direct from the fact checkers and why you should care and how to identify bad information:

      REUTERS AND FACT CHECKING
Reuters News has created a new fact-checking unit within its editorial department. The principal aim of this unit is to fact-check visual material and claims posted on social media.

      METHODOLOGY
The principles of integrity, independence, and freedom from bias guide all journalism at Reuters. We approach social media fact-checking work in the same manner.

Our choice of material to fact check is broad, and is based on the following criteria:

Editorial value: is there a story to be told?

Reach: how far has the claim travelled?

Potential reach: is the information likely to be shared further?

Balance of fact vs opinion: is it possible to isolate certain claims from the material?

After we have identified the content we aim to fact-check, we will first identify and summarize the key claims relating to the material.

We will then seek to uncover the foundations of those claims and make an assessment as to whether those claims are true, false, partially true/false, or other – such as opinion and satire. Our approach will consider both the SOURCE and the CONTENT:

SOURCE: We aim to identify the primary source of the claim or content as posted on social media, speak to them directly wherever possible and obtain supporting evidence regarding the claim.

CONTENT: We will seek out information that corroborates the claims made in the content. If no corroborating material is available, we will look for details within the content and attempt to contact witnesses or other associated parties who may provide information. We will also consult regional and subject experts to gather their assessment of the content, in order to build up a case of evidence.

What I was waiting to hear from the Minister is what support is proposed for the good people of these islands who are not eligible to take the vaccine. Not everyone who has not taken the vaccine is anti-vax or conspiracy theorists. Since the published interview with the Premier, where we read veiled threats of the government considering ways to coerce, or force, vaccinations by mandating certain restrictions of our freedom (restricting the unvaccinated gaining entry to hospitals, cinemas, restaurants etc), it is good to hear from this minister that it will not be happening. Trying to convince the reluctant amongst us by parroting foreign media and prepared talking points will not work. People are aware that the vaccine is now proving less effective, as announced by Pfizer. There are also growing numbers of vaccinated persons who are being infected and spreading the virus, not just the unvaccinated. This is true despite the Premier’s apparent regurgitating of CNN and the US president’s claims that it is “the pandemic of the unvaccinated”. In fact, it could be the reverse by asymptomatic vaccinated! At thus point, who knows?! Oh what a difference a few days makes. The fact is, this is an evolving situation with both the virus and mutations, and the effectiveness of the vaccine. It is now known that vaccinated people are still catching the virus, spreading it to others, becoming ill and dying from the virus, despite claims otherwise by some. Heck even the CDC recently had to walk back their previous advice that masks were no longer required to be worn by the vaccinated. So it can hardly any longer be said that the vaccines are highly effective. We are all confused! We are all at risk. Vaccinated and unvaccinated. We are all in this situation together, so let’s stop the hateful attacks and accusations, on both sides.

Possibly some useful points but I would not endorse as “well said.”

It is not true, as 6:19 pm claims, that

“People are aware that the vaccine is now proving less effective, as announced by Pfizer. There are also growing numbers of vaccinated persons who are being infected and spreading the virus, not just the unvaccinated. “

Mostly untrue. Everyone has access to the internet and need to read comprehensively and critically. Avoid sources such as Fox News which simply twists the truth.

What we have been seeing is lowered efficacy against the DELTA variant.

But we also are being told based on data from the CDC that even if vaccinated persons contact the virus they are not as sick (only .004% have been hospitalised and associated deaths are at .001%.)

We also knew from the time vaccines were introduced that it was possible that immunity would wane over time based on individual immune responses, and that we might have to get booster shots.

But all medical authorities worldwide are supporting vaccines as the best weapon against Covid.

Read more here from media sources:

“Less than 0.1 per cent of vaccinated Americans have contracted the coronavirus, according to date from the US Centres for Disease Control.

“ In a stunning confirmation that the existing coronavirus vaccines are an effective preventative to the virus, Axios reported CDC data showing that 99 per cent of vaccinated Americans have not been infected with the coronavirus.

“Breakthrough cases” – situations in which a vaccinated person becomes infected – occurred in 0.77 per cent of Americans who have been vaccinated.

Only .004 per cent of vaccinated Americans have been hospitalised due to the virus, and .001 per cent have died.”

The one consistent and “go to” for the CDC is masks. The vaccine seems to be an individual solution and not a societal one, despite claims of such only a few months ago. So for those who can’t or dont wish to be vaccinated, they have the CDC’s only true solution – masks. The pro-Vaxers cannot accept masks are the solution, and will go one the attack. Sorry.

      • Beaumont Zodecloun says:

It depends upon the mask. Prior to the emergence of Covid-19 and the variants, people wore masks to protect others from themselves, if they were sick.

Contrary to that idea, in some Asian cultures, it has been common for decades to wear masks when a seasonal flu was running, to protect oneself.

I observe that many people in the process of wearing masks touch their faces repeatedly, often unconsciously, to adjust the mask. The following are my own conclusions, not projected against anyone else, just what I think is true:

1: A mask that can be put on that will stay in place will result in less face touching.

2: Remember when Coronavirus was upon us? How we used the hand cleaners and alcohol? Yeah. Those behaviours help prevent sickness and saved lives.

        3. I don’t mind at all keeping my distance from everyone. When I was young, I would put myself in big crowds and loved it. I think those that enjoy the energy of crowds should do what feels good, and those who don’t should keep their distance. People who engage in crowds should step up their hand-washing/cleaning and be mindful of coming into contact with their elders.

        4. I am appalled at how we are treating each other and how we are talking to each other, as if we are divided tribes at war. I hope everyone has made an informed decision whether to take the vaccine or not. I am disappointed in politicians and my fellow citizens that think it is acceptable to castigate others for their choices.

        6. History will judge us. Will it judge us as frightened heathens or adaptive travelers?

        There is no 5.

      • Anonymous says:

So you are not prepared to take the vaccine because it infringes your choice – you just want everyone else to be forced to wear masks instead. Got it.

  19. Brian says:

Who bears the medical costs of unvaccinated persons contracting Covid? Is it the Government via HSA or CINICO? Decisions have consequences. If you are decide not to take the vaccine, as is your right, be prepared to bear your medical and funeral expenses and not have it be borne by the vaccinated. That is just selfish.

    • Anonymous says:

What is selfish, Brian, is you jumping on here attacking the unvaccinated considering the changing dynamics of this situation. Apparently you are unaware that it is now known that the vaccinated are also getting the virus, can spread it to others and can also become very ill and die from it. So, based on that truth let us again examine the facts and see that the vaccinated have no just reason to be exempt from paying medical and death costs associated with COVID.

CNS: According to the Israeli study, which is the most pessimistic, the Pfizer vaccine is 80% effective against even the Delta variant. That means that if you get covid, you are much much less likely to get seriously ill and die. That is fact.

      • Anonymous says:

9:36 comment is not about getting it easy and not dying, it is about vaxxed people having the same viral load as unvaxxed and equally spreading it. At least this is the latest tune from CDC.

Passing lightly over the stat that you are 8 times less likely to catch it if vaccinated. So you take a conscious decision which makes you 8 times less likely to be a reservoir of the disease. And you want to put that on an equal scale to those that could vaccinate, but choose not too, and run 8 times the risk of providing a vector.

My greatest concern is for the health services workers if we have a great spread of CV-19. as our existing health services could be easily overwhelmed, and those at the literal front line would be at great risk, vaccinated or not.

No one is forcing Work Permit holders to get vaccinated.

If you are a work permit holder you have a “CHOICE” you can either follow the law and get your vaccine. If you don’t at the end of your work permit you will not be granted another one and your company will have the opportunity to hire a Caymanian or an expat if need be. Your contract ends at the end of your permit. Work permits are never automatically renewed.

Any new work permit holders coming in will be advised that they have to be vaccinated to come to work on the island. If you don’t want to get vaccinated then your company will find someone with the same qualifications to fill your position. Again it is the person’s “CHOICE” as to whether they want to com to Cayman or not..Like anywhere else in the world you must obey that country’s laws or you can choose not to go..Just that simple, the CHOICE is yours..

        Hope this helps

Let’s face it all the ‘vaccines’ are experimental as none have been fully approved by the FDA and obviously no results will be available for 4-5 years or longer as to the long term effects of any that may occur.
If we had those hard facts that proved to ALL that these experimental ’vaccines’ were in fact safe even the God/Yahweh/Jehovah/Saints on Toast brigade worshippers would take it in the years ahead, maybe not all but we’d surely be at 90%.
But that’s the crux in this entire situation. Any free society that forces or coerces its citizens to put something into their bodies against their will proves that we are not living in free society.

The first 5 days after Delta positive PCR test the average viral load of the vaccinated is slightly higher and then drops off to lower over next 20 days. This from study just released yesterday.

And you do realize that those ICUs will still be taken up a lot more by double vaccinated, fat 60 years olds than unvaccinated 20-30 year olds?

This is just wrong. Read. The. Data. If you can’t, check with a reputable source like an epidemiologist.

FALSE: “With Delta both vaccinated and unvaccinated spread and get infected in almost equal measure. “

Nope. Delta breakthrough rate is rare,

Less than 0.004% of those fully vaccinated experienced a breakthrough case resulting in hospitalization, and less than 0.001% have died from the disease, according to the latest CDC data.

Study 1: post-vax delta breakthrough infections are infrequent and when they occur, they’re typically shorter in duration (with less potential for spread) than in unvaccinated. “Vaccination is associated with faster decline in viral RNA load.”

        Sources: https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.07.28.21261295v1

        Study 2

A New England Journal of Medicine study details breakthrough COVID-19 infections in 39 of 1,497 fully vaccinated Israeli healthcare workers, with most cases mild or moderate but 19% with symptoms lingering for more than 6 weeks. No deaths or hospitalizations.

The vaccinated and unvaccinated need to mask indoors in areas with community spread. The virus needs to be starved of hosts.

FALSE: “And you do realize that those ICUs will still be taken up a lot more by double vaccinated, fat 60 years olds than unvaccinated 20-30 year olds?”

The unvaccinated are at a far greater risk. Period.

        Re the chart
Post-vaccination infections can occur. Vaccines are not 100% but they prevent a VAST majority of infections, transmission, and NEARLY all hospitalizations and deaths. Vaccinated individuals have a 25-fold reduction in risk of death, a 25-fold reduction in risk of hospitalization, and an 8-fold reduction in risk of disease. That speaks for itself. We are currently looking at ~88% effectiveness against symptomatic infection and ~90-95% effectiveness against severe disease and ~75-80% effectiveness at preventing any infection.

It’s not just about looking at the data but knowing how to look at it as you have expertly demonstrated here. While probably well intentioned, you’re spreading dangerous misinformation.

          1. You’re misreading the first study in Singapore. It includes only people admitted to hospital not all infections. That’s 218 people hospitalized vs over 1,100 total infections. The majority of infections is among vaccinated which overlaps with vaccine coverage. Therefore, the vaccine does not protect against catching or spreading covid in any meaningful way, it reduced chances of hospitalization (in Singapore). And there were zero cases of death both among vaccinated and unvaccinated.

          2. The second study you quote for Israel that you quote included almost no cases of Delta variant and shows 85% of these breakthrough infection cases as Alpha variant. Delta is 90% of all cases in the world. It’s an outdated and meaningless study and shows you just how fast these things change. Next month Delta could mutate more and be an even threat to vaccinated and unvaccinated.

          3. As for your claim that unvaccinated are at greater risk period regardless of age is wrong and you haven’t looked at the data. In Singapore among the 65,102 infections to date there was not a SINGLE death of anybody under the age of 43.

But Singapore is a special case anyways as it’s the country with by far the lowest case fatality rate in the world at 5 basis points vs a more commonly observed 20 to 50 basis points around the world (based on serology estimated covid exposed population).

And in general risk of dying and ICU stay for a 60 year old is over 100 times higher and for a 75 year old 250 times higher than for a 25-30 year old, bigger than any benefit from a vaccine, especially with Delta.

You will have to do better than the US CDC because the US healthcare industry is more about big pharma than about family medicine.

Even in Govt Medical is requirement for appointment. So if some one refuses medical they cant be appointed. Same to apply with vaccine.
When HIV testing was introduced hue and cry. But every one appreciates that our count was managed through that and education and education in various fronts. Let us move forward like ALT

While mandating for vaccine is not acceptable and we resoect the right not to be vaccinated, there can be some previleges that go with vaccination like allow travel, access to public places , no quarantine or reduced quarantine. Etc. Those who r against vaccination I wonder what they do when they go to France and want to dine

You cannot deny people the right to travel, especially those who are also citizens of other countries.

Strange, WHO and CDC information is often misinformation within weeks by their own revisions.

The latest CDC release being a real doozy.

CNS: 1) Scientists are learning more about the virus all the time. It is new, remember. 2) The virus is mutating, which means that what was true last week may not be true this week.

    • Anonymous says:

They are also learning more about the vaccine all the time. I don’t have a problem with emerging data, I have a problem with information suppression (not accussing CNS of this) while health and government officials confidently make broad and sweeping proclaimations that within weeks turn out to be incorrect. Mandatory vaccines are the most egregious. Worse, suppressed scientific warnings are turning out to be as or more accurate in some cases. Dr. Malone for example is not a mouth breathing qanon nut, he’s the inventor of the mRNA vaccine…

*CNS: Dr. Robert Malone did not invent mRNA vaccines

…he’s calm and reasoned and he’ not an anti-vaxxer including the vaccines in question. He is urging caution for vaccinating certain groups outside of high risk groups and for valid reasons.

*CNS: It doesn’t matter how calm he is. His views have been rubished as pseudoscience by experts. See here and here and here. The reason the video has been ignored by the MSM is because journalists actually fact check. Right wing outlets don’t care as long as it makes people angry and causes more trouble. This is exactly how misinformation spreads on social media – people believing rubbish and that it has been suppressed because for some obscure reason which makes no sense whatsoever, they believe that public health experts around the world want to kill people with vaccines and governments want to destroy their own economies.

Yet you won’t see him on CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, BBC or any of the main news networks, instead he’s been relegated to obscure podcasts and right wing outlets because there’s literally nowhere else for him to go. He’s not a right wing nut job. The government/big pharma/big media complex is smashing us in the face daily and I hope that people wake up to that very soon. This virus and the vaccines to combat them deserve a very robust, nuanced and cautious debate but instead we’re mostly seeing hard lines drawn between vax and antivax. Scary times.

As a journalist you are ok with this?

Five days after his DarkHorse podcast appearance, Malone’s scientific accomplishments and contributions were scrubbed from Wikipedia.
As recently as June 14, 2021, Malone’s contributions were extensively included in the historical section on RNA vaccines’ Wikipedia page.

It’s ok to disagree with Dr. Malone but his undeniable contributions to mRNA vaccine discoveries should not be erased. He is subject as anyone to being wrong about emerging vaccine efficacy, time will tell, but erasing his accomplishments and important voice on the subject matter wreak of communist style information control. Very disturbing, wrong and dangerous.

CNS: It appears that you don’t understand what Wikipedia is or how it works. You might want to fix that if you want to sound informed on the matter. Wikipedia has nothing to do with journalism. However, as a journalist I am not OK with him appearing on Fox News as an “inventor of mRNA vaccines” when he isn’t, something that he himself has admitted. That seems like fraud and journalism at its worst.

As far as his Wikipedia references go, this analysis is interesting. Quote: ‘However, from my brief analysis, I find it fairly obvious that there definitely appear to be Malone admirers out there “puffing him up.” Other Wikipedia editors caught this tampering and shut it down. I could speculate that these Malone admirers made these edits on purpose, knowing that Wikipedia’s error-correction mechanisms would catch them and lead other editors to revert their edits, thus generating a conspiracy theory about Wikipedia “erasing” Malone, but, quite frankly, I don’t think these Wikipedia tampering fans of Malone are clever or smart enough to have conceived such a plan.’

Although the Minister indicates there will be no mandates it would seem that for those who are fully vaccniated that they will bear some of the cost of those who chose not to be vaccinated. The choice not to get vaccinated is a very indivudalistic attitude and lacks community responsibility in the society in which they live. their possible infection, hospitalisation and risk factors has a cost to all of society and because of this governments or private companies should require not simply request vaccination. the is a owrld wide public health issue

Vaccinated people made up three-quarters of those infected in a massive Massachusetts covid-19 outbreak, pivotal CDC study finds.

CNS: True. See full story here. The message remains the same: your best chance of avoiding serious illness or death is to get vaccinated.

    • Anonymous says:

Sure, but don’t assume that there were an equal number of vaccinated and unvaccinated persons exposed in the cluster outbreak. Given the relatively higher levels of vaccinated persons in the New England area, it would actually stand to reason that it is more likely that vaccinated persons were exposed, simply because they are the majority in that region. What’s notable is that there were no deaths, a minority hospitalized, and most had no symptoms, indicating that the vaccines are working well against the Delta variant.

      • Anonymous says:

The state with the highest full vaccination rate is Vermont at 67.44 percent. So no, it doesn’t stand to reason.

In that New England area there were 4 hospitalized among the vaccinated and 1 among the unvaccinated. The hospitalization rate for breakthrough cases was higher for vaccinated than unvaccinated. This should send chills down your spine.

In many countries in Europe now the rate of hospitalization for vaccinated is higher than for unvaccinated, all because of Delta. Get ready for the 3rd dose vaccine. And for Europe it’s all downhill from now because over half of the population has natural immunity and in Cayman it’s zilch.

      • Anonymous says:

A fun way of looking at it… Cayman will be that cluster times 100x as roughly that’s how many would end up catching Delta if it we open up now without another lock down / severe restrictions. Vaccinated and unvaccinated mix similar, age profile probably similar. So you get 500 hospitalizations for Covid and from that you’d expect 10% death rate or 50 body bags if we’re lucky. Mostly among the vaccinated over 40 year olds. Careful what you wish for.

US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

“CDC Director Says There Will Be No Federal Vaccine Mandate”

“The agency had identified only 10,262 cases across the U.S. where a fully vaccinated person had tested positive for Covid. Most people who got infected after vaccination showed few symptoms, and appeared to be at low risk of infecting others.

But in the months since, the number of vaccine breakthrough cases has grown, as has the risk that they present. And while the CDC has stopped tracking such cases, many states have not. Bloomberg gathered data from 35 states and identified 111,748 vaccine breakthrough cases through the end of July, more than 10 times the CDC’s end-of-April tally”

    • Anonymous says:

9.49 this is totally alarmist and misleading without context:

125,000 fully vaccinated Americans tested positive which is 0.8% of the 164.2 million Americans vaccinated since January.

The vaccines work. Read the data.
