Just 42 people get first vaccine dose over last day

(CNS): With government confirming that it wants to see 80% of the population vaccinated before it begins the phased reopening of Cayman’s borders on 9 September, at least 110 people will now need to be vaccinated against COVID-19 every single day over the next nine weeks to reach that rate. But on Thursday government officials said that just 42 people had received a first shot of the vaccine over the last day and the national rate for those who have have both shots remains stuck at 64%.

According to public health’s latest official figures, 48,722 (69% of the estimated population) have now had at least one dose of a vaccine and 45,483 people have completed the full course.

Meanwhile, there are just three active cases of the coronavirus among the 951 people either in home isolation or government quarantine and just one person continues to suffer with symptoms. There were no new positive cases among those tested over the 24 hours.

I believe in the end in order to get on with life we will need to re-open and let natural selection take its course.

I know this sounds harsh and cruel but unfortunately instead of getting herd immunity we will need to trim the herd which will most likely be the the unvaccinated.

If the numbers have dropped this low, let cut of the date for everyone to get their second shot. The number of cases are no longer high in those that are vaccinated but have exploded with the unvaccinated.

    Let the natural selection begin!

PACt on Wednesday: everyone must get vaccinated

Crazy that other countries in the world are using “eligible population” as the marker. And yet, here in Cayman, we are aiming for “total population” when so many aren’t even eligible. We will never get there 🙁

Total made up population. Do try to keep up.

Crazy that in other countries people are begging for the vaccine while watching their families die and here in Cayman have it in abundance and won’t even bother to go get it.

The people here have not seen anything yet. They are so use to living in this bubble and don’t understand the reality of living where covid is rampant. I have lived through this before coming to Cayman. I can tell you all that what you have here is an example of what other countries in the world could have done. You are blessed! I had friends of mine die from covid just simply because the refused to wear masks. Two of them died even though they had the opportunity to take the vaccine. Influenced by political partisanship and religious fanaticism their deaths were unnecessary. They were like me in there mid thirties and thought they were immune from the virus.

One of the toughest things is to know a friend is dying and there is absolutely nothing you can do. You can’t hold their hand, you can’t talk to them because that are attached to a ventilator, in fact I couldn’t even go into their room.

Cayman people, I am just a lowly expat and I would not even begin to try tell you that you should absolutely take the vaccine. It’s your choice but do your research and if you decide not to take the vaccine, please start preparing yourself for covid. It will not be like it is now where those who have it are contained at quarantine or in isolation as the hospital It will be in your communities and it will search you out. It does not discriminate and it does kill.

Other than those below 12 years, how many are not eligible? Conspiracy theorists, Religious fanatics, Trump supporters are all eligible even though they believe they are not..

Those with medical conditions should be the only ones not eligible.

Bill Gates, Dr. Fauci, Obama, Pelosi, the CDC, China, etc. are controlling the Cayman Islands, too?
    Seems swampy.

CNS: No, extremist BS blogs and Facebook are controlling your mind. Seems crazy.

  5. It's my Choice! ➕ says:

Alot of Caymanians are not getting the jab. They don’t trust their health to this governor, chief medical officer, government, and deceived pastors! And I don’t blame them. As time unfolds, more knowledge about these vaccines is coming out.

What? All the news about how all those who die are unvaccinated? Sounds like you’ve got this back asswards.

9.24am Your first sentence is 100% correct, and they will never change their narrow minds. We are all doomed being marooned on a desert island.

EXACTLY!!! thats why people are reluctant to get the SO CALLED VACCINE. Vaccines aren’t made in 9 months unlike this one. How come no Vaccines for cancer, AIDS and all those diseases. In my humble opinion there is no real gain there is no real good reason to get the VACCINE

There will be when Covid gets into the community

        • Anonymous says:

When? We will never open. Everytime it seems the end is near a mysterious new variant comes around and we start over again. This bubble will always be here. Get the vaccine they say. For what? What’s the difference right now between unvaccinated and vaccinated here. Nothing? No benefit, no vaccine.

The mRNA vaccine has been in development for about a decade actually, a lot of money has been invested.

      • Incredulous says:

Imagine being so uneducated you think cancer and AIDS could be treated with a vaccine and then believe your opinion on vaccines is worth something!

    • Anonymous says:

I got vaccinated to protect myself, my family and my friends. I never took any directive from the governor, CMO or any Pastor.

Not getting vaccination because the Governor or someone else is encouraging you is absolute insanity. Can’t you make up your mind for yourself?

If it makes you feel and better, you do know that Trump took the vaccine, right?

  6. Anonymous says:

Good luck with that – unattainable goal

  7. Anonymous says:

CNS: It is actually more than 110 a day are needed as vaccines are usually given out 5 days a week. So will need around 150 per vaccination day.

  8. Anonymous says:

CNS – thank you for printing the information on how to get home vaccinations. That will help a lot of people.

  9. Anonymous says:

Yet we need to hit 80%…..good luck!

  10. the void says:

I think while the 80% may be a reasonable target for herd immunity, if it isn’t achieved the plan should still go ahead. There is ample and repeated notice given. If your bush tea or sky fairy will cure you or if you think it isn’t even a big deal, so be it. Don’t get vaccinated. No one is forcing it.

But Cayman cannot continue to lock itself away.

Amen. I was exasperated when I was at Faith Hospital yesterday. Another person waiting to see the doctor had a mask, pulled down below her chin and started talking about how masks really don’t help, and she had read on the internet that COVID-19 really wasn’t a problem, so she wasn’t going to get vaccinated. She also said her sister in the U.S. had died, and the doctors said that COVID-19 was the cause, but she wasn’t so sure that was correct. Since she brought it up, I told her if she was going to rely on the internet and blind faith, that was her choice, but I chose to rely on science. I also told her that I thought people who choose not to be vaccinated should be required to let others, like me, know. That way I can avoid them.

  11. Anonymous says:

And why would they? There is no reason to get vaccinated as our moronic government will never open the border. If I hadn’t already gotten the vaccine I doubt I would today. There is zero benefit. It was supposed to free us. But we are still unable to fly, or see family. Lord it sucks being held hostage by idiots. Especially when the idiots are being paid by us.

    • Anonymous says:

Catch 22 – the reason you need to get vaccinated is so that our borders CAN open!! Duh! The benefit is that those who would like to leave this island to go anywhere other than the US or the UK, will be able to do so!! We are held hostage by selfish idiots who will not get the vaccine so that the borders can open. They are mostly locals who are not getting it, and are hurting their own kind and/or family who have jobs related to tourism.

      • Anonymous says:

So one should sacrifice his own health for your health. How selfish this is?

I am not taking any risks to my health and life so you will find peace.

You believe you are protecting yourself based on the opinions of many scientists.

I believe you are harming yourself based on the opinions of many equally respectable scientists.

We’re not going to start a civil war over it, isn’t it? Get your jabs and MYOB.

It is CIG that holds you a hostage. Move, there are plenty of places where governments have common sense. If you are relatively young, under 50, what is holding you in environmentally degraded Cayman where cancer is guaranteed?

  12. Anonymous says:

    No attainable goal, no vaccine.
