NDC and police warn kids about ganja ‘snacks’

(CNS): Brenda Watson, the acting director of the National Drug Council, is warning parents and children that edible marijuana is still an illegal drug and can cause adverse effects. Earlier this month, police were called to a local school following a report that a suspicious food item had been recovered from a student during a bag search. The item turned out to be an edible ganja snack made with cereal. Police have now produced the picture of the ganja-infused food (see above) to raise awareness among parents.

“While many teens may think that eating marijuana is an okay way to get high, it is in fact dangerous, risky and illegal,” said Watson. “Metabolising edible marijuana produces a different response than smoking it due to its varying range of potency. The results can include intoxication, paranoia and high anxiety.”

The public, especially parents and guardians of children and students, are advised to be on the lookout for these ganja-infused items. The public is also reminded that it is an offense to possess or consume ganja products unless given a medical dispensation to do so. It is also illegal to sell such products if you are not a licensed medical practitioner, or to otherwise supply drugs.

Correction: An earlier version of this article said the school where the suspicious food item was found was the Clifton Hunter High School. According to the RCIPS, it was a different school.

It is also illegal to sell such products if you are not a licensed medical practitioner, or to otherwise supply drugs. Or if Dr Lee doesn’t like your business, even if you are a licensed medical professional dispensing legally imported drugs.

Yes, whatever happened to that investigation whereby Lee was implicated?
Was he charged? Does he plan on resigning? Will he go to jail?
What does that man who purports to be our Governor upholding the rule of law have to say about this?

Why do these people always protect each other?

They do not deserve to be here.

    Safer than pills,
You buy it from your nearest farmer.

Instead of scaremongering, because they see adults using it, sooo… Stop being a hypocrite.

Educate them on the effects of this and ALCOHOL on the developing human BRAIN. Both of these commonly acceptable drugs (plus many others not as acceptable) are extremely detrimental to the healthy growth of the brain. Developmentally, emotionally and physiologically!! I wish this had been explained to me before I had my first taste at 15.

The human brain is still firing synapses/developing/learning/growing well beyond 21 years of age but up until 21, it is THE most important time for your future and how you act, react and make smart decisions in life. Basically, alcohol stunts your physiological/emotional brain growth. This fact is NOT in question.
All of you – just think back to the boozers/stoners from your high school days and where they are now… How far did they get in life? Did they taper off and get their act together? Or did they carry on drinking/smoking becoming borderline/full blown alcoholics or going to harder substances? Fighting in their relationships, burning through friendships/connections, getting DUI’s, dinging every car they’ve ever owned or borrowed. Recognize anyone?

The US drinking age, for the most states, has been raised to 21. You’ve heard “old enough to go off to war but not old enough to drink”
Well. This is why! Your brain is not finished developing/growing and drinking AND smoking weed alters this. At least they finally got something right..

But don’t believe me. Have a look around. Whenever there is fighting, arguing, domestic violence, isn’t alcohol ALWAYS involved??
Just ask you know who… Oh, wait, he doesn’t remember. Oh, wait, yes. Yes he does.

Let me step off this soapbox now.

We need a proper education campaign on this topic, Not the usual scaremongering. The more we make it seem forbidden the more kids will want to try it. If CIG can get its head around this and regulate it, it will be more difficult to obtain. The black market is booming and until we remove the profitability aspect from the black market, a drug dealer will continue to sell to whoever they want for the sake of the CI dollar.

and what adverse affects would they be?
since NO ONE in the history of mankind has ever overdosed on marijuana. Tell me. I don’t smoke it myself. But no one believes your fear mongering. When the entire world is slowly legalizing it.

    • Anonymous says:

The reason that parts of the world is legalising it is because governments see the benefit in taxing it to get extra income from the people. Nothing to do with how safe or dangerous it is.

      • Townah says:

It’s pretty disingenuous to claim that legality has “nothing to do with how safe or dangerous it is.”

It’s being legalised around the world because the dangers have been evaluated, and it’s deemed quite safe. Governments aren’t out there legalizing recreational methamphetamine and heroin simply for tax revenue, as they would generate some hefty taxes.

Marijuana is a relatively benign drug, there is little harm to society when it’s consumed for personal use, and that should be the bottom line when we discuss legality.

The people are seeing the benefits. If it was left to the governments of the world, we would not be where we are today.

        Yet drinking is ok?
        Just look at our roads.
They should tax it and put the money towards education here.

Adverse effect is that it removes all desire to achieve. An already entitled youth will be reduced to unemployable idiots, the likes of which already live among us.

25/05 @ 7:51am – “and what adverse effects would they be?” Please don’t trivialize the effects of too much marijuana in a human system at one time unless you’ve experienced the same. I have! I ended up in a hospital ER from voluntarily smoking very strong ganja (Colombian Red) –
with extreme paranoia and a heart rate of 220 bpm, with my temp fluctuating from very hot to very cold within minutes! I thought I was dying! That was my second such experience as a teen. It was enough to put me off herb for many years.

Now just imagine the state of mind and body of a child who has unkowingly ingested marijuana, especially in the slow-acting more intense method of eating it and not expecting the effects of slow metabolizing? It would be terrifying!

While perhaps no one has DIED from using too much ganja (although I don’t know how you would have worldwide stats on every herb user) please don’t say no one has OVERDOSED! Or perhaps you would say those effects were the result of “having too much herb in the system at one time”? Overdose?

Although I imagine not only teens are subject to such horrifying experiences, under NO circumstances should a teen or young person consume marijuana in ANY form – whether by choice or not!
