Rankine follows Juliana, rejoins PACT

(CNS): Isaac Rankine has returned to the independent PACT group after effectively causing more than five days of uncertainty about the next Cayman Islands government. Following the move by Juliana O’Connor-Connolly, whose decision to join Panton sealed PACT’s majority, Rankine also seems to have seen the writing on the wall, though his part in creating the uncertainty is unlikely to be rewarded with a ministry. The newcomer, who reportedly had previously demanded the premier’s job to support PACT, has lost his bargaining chips and will now have to settle for a place on government’s back-bench for his constituents.

Panton’s administration is now secure with a majority of twelve to the PPM-Alliance’s seven MPs. Despite public sentiment regarding McKeeva Bush, the premier designate is almost certainly not going to go back on his word, having offered the West Bay West representative and Father of the House the role of speaker.

The arrival of O’Connor-Connolly and the return of Rankine, however, enables Panton to create a more secure administration with more support for the Cabinet, which is now made up of eight rather than seven ministers.

Isn’t it amazing that to this day no proof has been produced to show that Isaac demanded to be Premier. Wonder what social media outlet was first to ‘leak’ that info. XXXX PPM lost but their opponents sure got the benefit of these unproven rumours.

What a terrible example these two morons are setting for children. Your word and promises mean nothing and always abandon your team when the other team offers you more.

“The newcomer, who reportedly had previously demanded the premier’s job to support PACT”.

Pure propaganda to discredit him. Anyone who knows Isaac knows that is nonsense.

I think Rankine always ran on the basis that he wanted to be in the Government, whomever that turned out to be.

Why did he think that PPM would have the majority and decided to leave PACT? Maybe PPM was offering him a ministerial position and PACT wasn’t? We don’t know.

Context is important. I don’t know what he said about wanting to be Premier but I doubt he was seriously “demanding” to be Premier.
It could have been similar to when people say they will do something when pigs fly, they don’t actually expect to see pigs flying!

If Rankine said he wanted to be Premier for him to return to PACT, maybe he said that knowing that would never happen so he was saying at the time he wasn’t planning on returning to PACT for anything?

However, it is important to know what he said and in what context.
    Just giving a different perspective.

The people have voted, the new Government is now sworn in so let us be supportive and work for the betterment of the people of the Cayman Islands.

What are you basing that on as I don’t remember him saying that? Also who was first to jump Turner or him? Did he demand the premier position for PACT? I’m sure he wasn’t promised that from PPM.

      • Anon. says:

He said it on the campaign trail that he intended to be part of the next Government.
did you know who the next Government was at the time? Neither did he, so what does that infer?

Either you didn’t read the post entirely or have difficulty understanding. The post was saying perhaps he was being facetious if he had in fact asked for Premiership from PACT so your comment about PPM offering him that is moot.

I don’t know who went to PPM first. Do you?
Lots of speculation and assumptions flying around.

Is this you making up history as we go WannaBePremier Isaac? Is it that convenient memory that causing you to change loyalties so much?

        • Anonymous says:

You know I understand it when you say it but no I didn’t get that out of his post…let me guess it was “inferred” right?

He demanded to be Premier? Hahaha, what a loser.

  6. Anonymous says:

Ha! What a hilariously sad way to show your stupidity.

what chance do Cayman people really have? what a mess.

The 2021 Election sets the gold standard for Cayman entertainment. Who wrote the plot? Can I get a copy of the script? A Shakespearean comedy with all the twists and turns kings, governors, kingmakers, speakers, betrayals, wigs and makeup, and it’s only just begun. The central theme seems to be LOVE, whether love for country or love of self is still to be determined. Just hoping it does not turn out to be a tragedy.

This total snake will never be trusted on either side. He may as well get a comfortable cushion to sit in the back row and sleep as nobody will listen to anything he may say now. What a waste of a vote. The east end constituents must be raging !

I hope it will be Alls Well That Ends Well and not Othello.

  9. Anonymous says:

Many people will still feel that he is a turncoat and that he can’t be trusted. Some of the other MPs will want to keep him at a distance.

This whole flip-flopping BS has given me the biggest migraine in my life. I could scream so loud that the poor Queen in the UK would hear me right now.

Every single one of you is power-hungry, greedy, self-serving, manipulative, untrustworthy, hypocritical, backstabbing, undeserving of being in any position of the government and I wish we could vote again so that we could oust every last one of you EXCEPT Kenneth, Andre, and Katherine.

    A very disappointed constituent.

    • Anonymous says:

Kenneth is going to be one of the biggest problems so don’t put him in the league with Katherine and Andre

      • Anonymous says:

Ok he’s loved by many and I have much respect for the young man, but is he Qualified/ ready to be a minister of such an important and Pilar (Tourism) ministry for our country? Will he be able to hold his own and know the ropes to represent us internationally? He can do a lot for our country but I think this ministry in entirety is well out of his league and this is being my honest, unbiased opinion only!

      • Anonymous says:

The one time he had a job, he got arrested.

      • Anonymous says:

Katherine showed poise and dignity in her manner and dress.
Contrast to the large lady wearing her totally out of place carnival outfit .

    WTF?…..no sah

If he chose to leave PACT from the onset for PPM then he should have stuck by that decision like a grown man no matter what anyone had to say. But this flip flopping bullshit is ridiculous and shows his character. PACT should not have accepted him nor Sabrina back as far as I am concerned. And for Christ sake what ministry could Jay from North Side possibly run??? Wayne come on now….have you lost your damn mind? Try so remove Sabrina & Jay from “minister” and get Roy & Moses on board!!!

  13. Anonymous says:

    Great. 4 years of pandering.

  14. Anonymous says:

Wait…is it Julianna O’Connor Connolly or Julianna Connor O’Connolly being sworn in? Surely it should be consistent with the name on the ballot (??)

    They shouldn’t take him back.

It’s hard to say which Mencken quote is best for this, but here are a few more good ones.

Democracy is the art and science of running the circus from the monkey cage.

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.

Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.

And of course one last one which he didn’t live to see.

On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

PACT this guy gets nothing. He caused all this….you cannot rely on him!!! Maybe put him in charge of the Ministry of Betrayal and Self Interest

Surprised John John hasn’t jumped ship yet – he is after all technically an “Independent” and will no doubt see a statement saying he’s just doing it for his voters.

  22. Anonymous says:

None of these people have any integrity, absolutely appalling. These people will be running our country, I wouldn’t take this guy back he’s shown his true colours scum.

  23. Anonymous says:

maybe now that Wayne has the numbers he will remove Mac as speaker and appoint Alric again.

    • Anonymous says:

Highly doubt it. He sold out already.

    • Anonymous says:

The Speaker needs to be someone with legislative experience. No one wants the fiasco of 2009 – 2013 (Mary Lawrence) repeated again. Alric was an extremely poor choice and indicative of the kind of decisions Wayne was willing to make in his effort to secure the reins of power.

  24. Anonymous says:

Isaac you must feel like such a fool.

You literally destroyed your political career before you even stepped inside the legislative assembly!

No sympathy from me though. True colors were shown and it is clear that you are not to be trusted.

    • Realist says:

11.28am You sound like Alice in Wonderland, it must be obvious to most intelligent voters that all these PACT members are after the money and the glory, love of country does not come into it. Over the next 4 years they will all be receiving anywhere from over a half million CI$ to over one million CI$. plus generous allowances. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

  27. Anonymous says:

He should make Juliana speaker. Get rid of Mac, shocking he was ever given this role, absolutely no justification for it now.

  28. Anonymous says:

I guess the PPM supporters who were praising Isaac aren’t too happy with him now 😂
At least EE finally won’t be in the opposition.

  34. Anonymous says:

Shouldn’t we push him to go back on his word about McKeeva? I thought it was only with the deepest regret and “no other choice” that this was done.

    • Anonymous says:

I see we have a shit stirrer at 11:07am.

    • Anonymous says:

I’m hoping that was a temporary fix and now that Wayne has enough others, he’ll send him packing. Besides, Mac can’t meet the terms of the agreement since his donation was rejected.
