(CNS): Since the national vaccine programme was opened up to the entire resident community, only 20% of people aged under 30 have received a dose of the COVID-19 Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, according to the latest figures, compared to 56% in the 50-60 age bracket and over 90% of those over 60. After a second week of the vaccine programme being open to all, officials said that around 41% of the estimated adult population, or 26,321 people, have now received one dose of the vaccine, with 12,824 completing the course.

Government officials said that at the last count, 20% of those aged 16 to 30 had received their first shot, 29% of those aged 30-40, and 36% of those 40-50 years old. Government at present remains committed to inoculating around 75-80% of the adult population before it will make any further changes to the quarantine regime, which from Monday is being reduced to ten days.

Meanwhile, there were no new positive COVID-19 test results among the latest batch of 469. There are still 31 active cases of COVID-19, five of which are showing symptoms of the virus among the among the 847 people in isolation.

Most countries/airlines will be making proof of vaccine/vaccine passports necessary for travel.

If the government had a plan to open up I strongly believe you would see a lot more people willing to go and get vaccinated. Since Government (Alden) announced that basically nothing was changing except for the quarantine days from 14 which is really 15 to 10 which is really 11 (so no difference) I feel no one is in a rush to go get it and some folks are just waiting to time it closer to when boarders will open as no one knows how long the vaccine actually lasts (just my 2 cents).

I am aware of the other Caribbean Islands who are allowing tourists to arrive (St. Thomas) being one of them and so far they’ve been fine with controlling the virus so not sure what this government is waiting on in regards to a soft opening. Life needs to move on and people just need to accept the fact that bubble living is not realistic.

Aruba and Mexico both allowing travelers in for months now! Just two more examples.

Grand Bahamas has been receiving tourists and the numbers are going up.

I expect that until quarantine free travel is allowed here that the return of any significant tourism will be zero , if border opens but a quarantine period is required. The time-line to when this may happen is anyone’s guess. Also for us here that have received the vaccine, Health Services needs to [eventually] roll out a vaccine passport system that will be internationally recognized , to show we have been vaccinated. The current paper booklet reminiscent of the old drivers license cant be expected to show a border authority in another country or airline staff that you have a genuine vaccination certificate.

CNS: Just reminding everyone that the only vaccine we have right now is the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

Please read a few more studies about the AZ jab, the one article above isn’t fully correct and it doesn’t cause blood clots like the article would suggest.

This has been proven to be not true

While it is correct that older persons are statistically more vulnerable to covid-19,the disease has made some young people very sick and some of them are suffering from lasting health impacts. Personally I would take vaccine regardless of age once over 16 years.

Has there been any thought given to after hours clinics? I’m thinking of the large number of people who work in construction. Many travel there on bikes, bus, etc. It would be very hard for them to get to a vaccination clinic when the hours are only 9 am to 4 pm. Almost need to consider a mobile vaccine to the construction sites. That should help reach a large number of people.

Makes sense that oldest age group would have most take up as that is group with highest risk. Conversely, under 30s at very low risk of serious illness so they’re not in any rush to get jab.

Aren’t they in a rush to get off the island with a shorter (and hopefully at some point no) quarantine?

If they knew exactly what the plan is, it might help. This rubbish of still having to quarantine for 10 days is no incentive. Every time there’s discussion of the potential re-opening, the rules and goal post gets changed.

Talked to a Jamaican young adult who is worried about his DNA becoming polluted with this vaccine and young women being unable to have children.
We need more proper education about this vaccine and less social media rubbish!

There actually have been warnings about potential placenta issues for women. However, the DNA pollution comment is pure rubbish. There is no tracking or conspiracy issues either.
