(CNS): Commuters from the Eastern Districts will face extra traffic headaches on Monday and Friday mornings as well as Saturdays and Sundays for the rest of this month, as CUC and its contractors make upgrades between its new Prospect substation and Savannah. Officials from the power company said it will be erecting utility poles and stringing power lines along Shamrock Road eastwards along Rex Crighton Boulevard to the Hirst Road junction.

“These necessary upgrades will mitigate power interruptions to the Eastern Districts,” CUC said in release about the work.

The work will take place from the middle of morning rush hour at 8:00am until 2:30pm on Mondays and Fridays, then on both Saturdays and Sundays between 6:30am until 5:00pm.

Motorists are asked to avoid using the eastbound lane on Rex Crighton Boulevard during these specific hours and to use Shamrock Road as much as possible. When using Rex Crighton Boulevard, motorists are asked to exercise extreme caution and due diligence and to be on the lookout for the bright orange “Utility Work Ahead” signage and traffic cones, as there will be temporary lane blockages and traffic management in place.

Traffic woes is right, I have to leave Newlands earlier and earlier to get to work on time! This is absolute insanity and yet more and more cars are on the roads. Can we please put the politicians in NS or EE at 5 am every day, and have them make their way to work in GT during the morning rush hour, to feel how bad it is?! Oh wait, they are not working ..

I was runnin’ through the six with my woes.

Funny how this started after the rate hike. Next one coming in June. Yay us.

Election semantics how truly sad! Everything this company does we pay tenfold guaranteed dividend !Mitigate power interruption please don’t make laugh? how gullible do they think we are??

Will any of this help resolve the CUC vs Flow dispute over the fiber optic cables on poles?

  6. Anonymous says:

    Put them underground.

Not many cars driving East in the mornings, to be fair. Don’t think this will cause too much of a traffic concern.

It’s needed to be fair, power is always out in Prospect. So let’s just be patient on this one. Love how the Prospect election candidate signs are going up and we’ve never seen any of them do anything for us.

I’ll vote for whomever fixes our traffic clog on shamrock road. We shouldn’t allow ANY on coming traffic during morning rush hour from the bypass. They can all use the slip road and then our roundabout would flow. Prospect point needs to be extended to merge after the roundabout, the road is already there.

Aldens super-bright sign right where the bypass begins after Hurleys is extremely annoying at night!!! Is that allowed right by a busy road?!

      • Anonymous says:

Big slob Austin Harris has one at the roundabout before – awful.

      • Anonymous says:

Almost drove into the curb where the three lanes split into one that leads into Prospect while looking at the very bright and distracting sign.

Who approved this? Who is the minister responsible for NRA?

No, it isn’t ironic. PPM all da way na true

3:48 shut the eye on that side!

      • Anonymous says:

Seriously, do these candidates think that blinding signs of their faces along busy roads are going to garner them votes?!! How about some positive action in their community instead and a manifesto that consists of meaningful strategy rather than a jingle!!

You have to wonder about the wisdom of installing poles instead of underground conduits. Ivan devastated hundreds of utilities poles, and I remember the late Bill Walker suggesting at the time that they might be replaced by underground pipes.

So why do we continue with poles? Cost, I suppose?

      Working at night ?

Lets try the small steps first… actually doing roadway based working in the days
