(CNS): Around 43% of the estimated Cayman population of some 65,000 people has now received at least one COVID-19 vaccine shot. Officials said that 27,945 people aged over 16 have been given one shot while over 14,000 people have now had the full double dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. In Tuesday’s report, there were no new cases of the coronavirus among the 353 tests carried out over the last day, and the current overall tally of positive cases to date remains at 482 after more than 80,000 tests carried out over the last year.

There are currently 31 active cases of the virus among the 728 travellers in isolation or quarantine, four of which in people who have symptoms of COVID-19.

Can we not just set an end date for vaccinations to perhaps April 30th? This way those undecided have until then to get their shots. CIG will know if we will meet their new quota without dragging this on for many more months. Alternatively, just come out and say what everyone is thinking – we will wait until tourist high season returns in November to open our borders…..

Is this our actual population or are they including all those that are currently here on vacation and shooting films because they’re definitely getting them too

    • Anonymous says:

But at this point I know many locals who refuse to get the vaccine, so who cares who is getting it? Are we not all human? Will this not be for the greater good in the long run?

While Cayman is still trying to eradicate COVID19, Florida bill seeks to better plan for future pandemics. It spells out that health emergencies could include the release of toxic chemicals and nuclear agents, as well as biological toxins.

I assume CNS won’t post this link XXXX

CNS: I never accept challenges of this sort. The content of the comment is irrelevant. Post deleted every time regardless.

CNS: these numbers are a bit misleading. The population of Cayman is a reported 65,000. What percentage of them are under 16? That figure should be taken away from above and the vaccinated percentage calculated against that. If we’re not giving a vaccine to the under 16’s – they shouldn’t be included in the total.

Public Health 101 – Children can become infected and contagious, spreading the disease to others. They therefore need to be included in the calculations related to ‘herd immunity and the point at which our borders can be opened with acceptable risk to our population.

    • Anonymous says:

not really because no-plan-alden recently changed the goal posts and said we now need 80% of overall population vaccinated!

    • Anonymous says:

By that rationale people who cannot take the Pfizer because of anaphylaxis risk and are waiting for the Astra Zenica vaccine should not be counted either. Bad logic.

      • Anonymous says:

Exactly right. There are several reasons for why people don’t fit the criteria for the Pfizer. Whomever didn’t take the Pfizer for this reason should contact HSA to be put on the list for the Oxford/AstraZeneca.

…because folks under 16, pregnant, those allergic, or too medically frail are not human beings…got it.

    • Anonymous says:

That would lead to mathematical confusion once the mRNA jabs are given emergency use authorization for 6 months to 16 yrs age groups

      • Anonymous says:

Where are you going to get them from? Children are not going to be vaccinated in the UK unless they have a medical condition which requires it, so you would have to source them elsewhere, even if it’s approved.

    From CNN today:

Cases of people who developed Covid-19 after vaccination are “expected” and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is tracking that data as more people get vaccinated, a CDC official told CNN on Tuesday.

The official said it’s important to study and genetically sequence “breakthrough” infections amid concerns that new variants might evade the immune protection offered by vaccines.

what is your point? you afriad to say you are an anti-vaxxer?
do you believe in science and the advice of 99% of medical professionals?

      • Anonymous says:

No, I don’t (not the original poster). I believe in my immune system.

      • Anonymous says:

How can they be an anti vaxxer if this isnt a vaccine. Why dont you go to the CDC website and look up the definition of a vaccine…..then look up the meaning of immunity.

    • Anonymous says:

95% efficacy (against the original wild strain) means 1 in 20 exposures will breakthrough. With variants, likely higher.

Encouraging news is that of those that breakthrough, very few will likely result in serious disease or death.

      • Anonymous says:

That is true in relation to people that have been fully vaccinated but it only takes one breakthrough to potentially spread Covid among those not vaccinated causing serious disease or death in that group.

    • Anonymous says:

      🙀🤭🙄
Shouldn’t they conduct studies before issuing Emergency Use Authorization?

    • Anonymous says:

What are you trying to keep people scared? No vaccine is 100% for anything but we still lived our lives before covid knowing this.

  7. Anonymous says:

what is the plan if vaccination rate stalls at around 60%…..do the ignorant minority keep this island shut down forever?

    • Anonymous says:

I think it is stalling. 23,000 eligible people havent received a shot yet. On Monday, only about 300 first doses were given out, and expect even this rate to decline.

      You can do the math….

We need more education out there .. gullible people are being swayed by social media nonsense.

        • BeaumontZodecloun says:

There is also a great need for people to do their own vetted research, rather than relying on what they read. Science is never decided by consensus.

Make informed choices, and then live with those choices.

          • Anonymous says:

Well said! People can choose whether or not they get this vaccine.

Do what you feel is right for you and let everyone else do the same.

Those that want it should have ZERO concern with those that don’t and vice versa.

            • Anonymous says:

so maybe people can make their own choices and not wash hands or obey social distancing protocols when in place?????
people do not have a choice when we are trying to protect the general public during a pandemic.

    • Anonymous says:

Probably, just like they have been doing for decades.

    • Anonymous says:

You just can’t comment without resorting to insults, can’t you? There are no reasons to get the jab if you are healthy and under 60. Please don’t waste your time trying to convince “the ignorant minority”.

Coronavirus neither the first nor the last pandemic that will reduce population of humans. Pandemics are as normal as breathing for life on earth.

For eons ecosystems existed with little interconnectedness. Thanks to the globalisation and transportation, we have now created an environment where biological material from different ecosystems flowing across the planet in less than a day.

You believe that if everyone vaccinates that would give you sense of security. You worship the false god. World’s economies will collapse if they continue spending trillions to fight every new virus. That is what innate immune system for.

So get busy living, there might be no vaccines for new viruses that would come after covid19.

      • Anonymous says:

Hurricanes form every year, that’s as normal as breathing for life on earth.

So why bother with hurricane shutters or preparations

    • Anonymous says:

60% participation, like that achieved by Israel, is actually a higher participation rate than a normal annual flu shot, and higher than some countries manage on voter turn-out. Many countries are counting on supply-impeded AZ vaccines that the Economist, Washington Post, and Dr Fauci are now saying is more like 65%-74% effective in US tests, not the 75% touted by AZ last week. If that’s the case, and 60% of a country get a vaccine into the shoulders of those eligible, that translates into a population immune resistance rate of around 39%. Those numbers are nowhere near the herd goal line for vaccinating humanity out of the pandemic in 2021. Plan accordingly.

  8. Anonymous says:

    will keep asking:
if through vaccination of the population and especially the higher risk groups, the risk of death/serious illness drops to the level of seasonal flu, why are our borders closed?

  9. Pastor Alfredo says:

I don’t think we should open the border until 110% of the population has been jabbed. Just to be absolutely sure.

No government stimulus cheques then there should be another pension fund WITHDRAWAL!!! Cayman is one of the very few countries in the world with annual Government surplus and yet even during this pandemic refuse to provide stimulus. Ultra right wing country at its finest! I want my motherf*cking pension money to invest wisely on my own instead these BS pensions grossly underperforming the markets and 1.5% annual fee. White collar blatant theft of all pensioners. I bet the heads of those pension funds are living large fat bastards living at the Ritz.

Nothing right wing about Cayman Govt, so stop your shit.
These fanatics we have in charge are greedy, globalist loons.

      • Anonymous says:

You’re an idiot – Cayman is the most right wing country on the planet. Imagine if Democrats in the USA took over Cayman – open borders- pathway to citizenship for “undocumented immigrants”, raising the personal tax rate to 52% and corporate tax rate to 35%, abortion clinics, LGBTQ childhood education and how about mail in voting.
Cayman would collapse if any left wing ideology was implemented. Open your eyes you twit

You think Cayman is left wing? Fly your dumb as to Socialist Venezuela or Communist Cuba and experience left wing society. Compare that to pure Cayman capitalism prosperity.

We cannot aim for 70% or the population to open up. We can, and should, only aim for 100% or the people who want to be vaccinated.

    • Anonymous says:

Correct! It should definitely be based on % that want it not % of population….especially since the population is only an estimate due to out of date census.

Every single person, 16 and up, has already had the opportunity to get the vaccine if they want it. If people haven’t taken it up, they don’t want it.

I’m cool with whatever people choose for getting it/not getting it. However, state a date that borders will open, regardless of % vaccinated, and then open.

    • Anonymous says:

Agreed! Why let us be held ransom by a few.
