Migrant vessel arrives in Cayman Brac on Friday

(CNS): Six Cuban refugees aboard a small vessel that was taking on water and out of fuel were picked up by Cayman Islands Customs and Border Control in Cayman Brac waters on Friday afternoon. The four men and two women were in good health, officials said, but were unable to continue their journey.

As result, under the established COVID-19 protocols and processing procedures, they have been placed in mandatory quarantine in a government facility.

Although the pandemic has caused a reduction in the number of Cubans trying to leave that country, in December a boat carrying ten men and two women were forced to end their journey in Little Cayman., the only migrant vessel to land in Cayman in 2020.

Meanwhile, in November 2020, 14 Cuban migrants who had been waiting to have their asylum applications processed and were living in the community on electronic tags left the island by boat and made it to Mexico.

We had Caymanians in Cuba during last year when they shut down the airports. The Cuban Government brought all tourists to Havana and put them up for free. They were given free food and board in hotels until the airports opened up. One of the Caymanians needed surgery for his heart and had to pay a small amount of money. We should be allowed to go to Cuba and our medical insurance would be $10 per month. Electricity is normally $2 per month. Many products could be purchased from Cuba and Central America.

Very polite of the refugees to wear masks when they arrive. 🙂

Hmm let me gather a tug boat and sail to cayman since these refugees get to stay at a government facility for free, while hard working people have to pay 2000 usd and up for some mediocre quarantine facilities

They are on the Brac! And others are in another gov home facilities from long time here also! Our country is so burdened with these “refugees” just to be disrespected and spit on, protesting on our government properties and claiming human rights! Make them repair, Send them on or straight back home!

I wouldn’t like to be related to you! Most refugees (granted, not all) are desperate people who deserve a bit of compassion!

There, but for the grace of (insert diety of choice) goes we. Any one of us could have been born there instead of here. I think our Cuban policy should be as kind and helpful as legally possible.

Send them back, those who are here are causing more than enough problems. Tell them to try picketing or demonstrating in Cuba and see what would happen to them.
