(CNS): There are now 47 active cases of COVID-19 among the 1,245 travellers currently in isolation after six more people tested positive in the latest batch of 408 coronavirus test results carried out over the last day. Eleven people are suffering symptoms but none of them are in hospital, officials said. With the arrival of 9,750 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID vaccine on Tuesday, the Health Services Authority’s Public Health is expected to launch the national vaccine programme on Thursday.

Governor Martyn Roper, Premier Alden McLaughlin, Chief Medical Officer Dr John Lee and Heath Minister Dwayne Seymour will all receive their jabs in a live streaming event Thursday to encourage the wider public to take up the vacinaiton.

The vaccines will then be available to those aged 70 and over, care home residents, certain patients in high risk categories, healthcare workers and other high risk front-line staff, such as those working at the airport.

It will be taken to those who are housebound and administered by a public health official, while all others in the relevant groups will be able to walk into specified locations to receive the shot.

Once Cayman receives its next batch of shots, those aged 60 and above as well as other essential workers, teachers and those with pre-existing conditions not taken care of in the first phase will be able to access the vaccine.

After that, the general public will also be invited to get vaccinated, though it is not currently recommended for children under 16, pregnant women or women who plan to be pregnant within the next three months. Those with a history of immediate onset anaphylaxis to a vaccine, medicine or food should also not receive the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

Most other countries are banning UK Flights. Time we follow suit.

Another query: Are the flight staff tested regularly?

  2. truth says:

Am sorry to say this but if anyone gets this and dies due to the Premier and Governor letting these people in who are invested with Covid-19 they should be held account and spent time in northward as well for this act. #everonesaccountable.

Thought you all said the whole flight would be infected.

Fly more in Alden why don’t you.

Classy moves these days i have to say.

Probability is that many of those positives arrived infected and would not be adding to the risks here if we simply required day of departure preflight testing.

yep …the obvious question..that the media won’t ask and cig don’t have to answer.

    • Edgar Poe says:

Day of departure testing serves no purpose. Facts are, testing at least 5 days after exposure is most beneficial since a positive takes approximately 5-7 days to show up.

It serves the very obvious purpose of preventing those already testing positive from infecting more of their fellow passengers or airport/airline/transport staff. It obviously doesn’t negate the need to continue quarantine. The system CIG is using is very good, evidently, but it could be even better with pre flight testing.

Are you stupid, they tested positive on arrival, if they was test one day before fight time, they would be positive an not allowed on the Plane

        • Edgar Poe says:

How many do you think tested negative initially and several days after arrival tested positive ? If you were exposed a few days before departure you would most likely test negative and a few days after arrival test positive.

          • Anonymous says:

Very few. It’s been stated that the majority of travelers that tested positive, had positive results from their arrival screening tests. They’ve been coming in already positive! The new testing requirements will eliminate already-positive persons getting here. With quarantine still in place, we have backup coverage on the negative results.
