(CNS): A traveller who tested positive for the coronavirus on arrival here recently is now in the intensive care unit at the Cayman Islands Hospital, public health officials have confirmed. Chief Medical Officer Dr John Lee said the patient is not on a ventilator and is in a stable condition. The authorities have not released the gender, age or general health of the patient, and there is also no indication which country the they had travelled from or which strain of the virus they have.

“The patient is still able to do everything on their own. I know we all wish to express our concern and best wishes to the patient, and their family, for the patient’s speedy recovery,” Dr Lee said Saturday morning following a release Friday evening revealing that the person had been admitted to the hospital.

The patient is the first person for more than two months to be hospitalized as a result of COVID-19, though there have been dozens who have shown symptoms of the disease but have recovered in isolation. The last person to be admitted died as result of complications from the virus, though she had been suffering from a serious pre-existing condition.

There are currently 35 active cases of COVID-19 among 861 people who are either in government quarantine or home isolation. Eight of those individuals are showing symptoms. In the latest batch of 92 test results processed on Friday, just one was positive, bringing the tally since testing began to 383.

Meanwhile, the vaccination programme continues, and all the groups in the first stage are invited to attend the various clinics where the shots are being administered. So far, 6,641 people have received the first shot, which is around 16% of the number of adults government is hoping will be vaccinated before the borders open.

Dearest.anon 211pm those increase in gatherings from 500 to 1000 were just merely to facilitate Alden’s political game and this government goats to meet and party. He is just merely flexing his political muscle with the help of Covid 19 quarantine laws . Remember what Roper said ain’t no Corruption here it’s all enshrined in his robust Constitutional mandates!

It’s now Monday evening & still no update to the timetable so are any vaccinations being given tomorrow ?! WTF

  4. Anonymous says:

If someone is supposedly asymptomatic then what are they doing in critical care unit ?! Totally illogical .

      Hmnnnnn….think it through will you

Just maybe the person might have a severe underlying condition😉

    • Anonymous says:

Read the article. Where does it say he is asymptomatic? Says he is not on a ventilator and capable of doing things on his own. Not the same at all.

On what basis, did CNS determine that “around 16% of the number of adults government is hoping will be vaccinated before the borders open”?

This statement suggests that over 41,506 residents will need to be vaccinated based on 6641 individuals vaccinated so far. Are there 41,506 adult residents in Cayman? On the current pace, it would take 6-7 months to reach this level not to mention that a significant percentage of the population will not be willing to take the vaccine. Dr. Lee has stated that 20% of the population will need to be vaccinated before the borders can reopen to visitors.

    • Anonymous says:

I think he said 80%, not 20%. Which makes the current rate of progress look problematic versus CIGs estimate of reopening in March/April.

Can anybody refer me to the vaccination schedule for this week please? Its not on the HSA website. Thank you!

Pfizer formally announced (and agreed by the FDA) in the last two days that its vials should now be considered to hold 6 doses and not 5. To administer 6 doses, need to use a more precise syringe such as TB syringes.

If Cayman can get access to the syringes at volume, we would be able to increase our doses by 20%.

We need to stick with our quarantine protocol, which is working. Not worth lifting it for the sake of maybe a potential couple hundred visitors (at most) a week in March or April.

Lifting quarantine requirements prior to summer will almost certainly lead to a case breaking through into the community, which will mean back to working from home, masks etc (in addition to, ironically, reinstating quarantine), that will set the economy back more than any benefit a trickle of visitors would bring.

Dr Lee is notoriously tight lipped regarding information on Covid patients, all we know are that they are homo sapiens. In this case it would be in the public interest to at least let the public know if the ICU patient has an underlying condition

Amon. No you don’t need to know this persons personal information.

Can you tell us your underlying conditions.

    • Anonymous says:

Why do we need to know if the patient has an underlying condition? When offering up unsolicited advice to the experts the last thing we want to have is any specific factual knowledge on the subject at hand, or really any knowledge whatsoever, as it severely restricts the number of options we can offer to Dr. Lee.

    • Anonymous says:

Other than for this patient’s close friends and family, who might worry about the patient more or less depending on whether he/she has any pre-existing conditions, I am not sure why anyone else needs to know.

    • Anonymous says:

Those details are private aka none of your business! Dr Lee is absolutely right not to share them.

    • Anonymous says:

Why. What difference does it make to you if they have a pre existing condition , other than your prurient curiosity. Doesn’t make them any more or less of a risk to you.

    • Anonymous says:

      So don’t send them back.

    • Anonymous says:

Unless students have underlying medical conditions that place them in an early phase, there is no reasoning to support jumping ahead in the line. They should absolutely NOT be prioritized over vaccinating the old and ill.

P.S. I have students too and we know many students that have had Covid.

      • Anonymous says:

How do you know? Government has not released any stats – how do you know what ages the infected travellers arriving here were? You don’t so quit with the BS. CNS: Oh, how we miss Christopher! There is always room to hold governments to account and question policy, but this kind of bollox just muddles the argument by design (clue: it’s the Daily Mail). The impact of covid in the UK can be found in the figures for excess deaths – look here for these officials figures – which PH ignores but should be required reading. This is not a scholarly debate; this is catnip for Daily Mail readers.

Dr. Lee, we would like to know if the individual was in Government quarantine or home isolation. If the later, with other family members, please explain how CIG is dealing with them. Or are they left to do as they wish.

  16. Cayman Justice of the Hope says:

UK is its Third Lockdown Cayman! What is Alden and Governor trying to prove? how loyal we are to our colonial master? The Netherlands just blocked all flights and passengers! This Covid 19 travel corridor is highly foolish and very reckless and is putting Cayman at unnecessary risk and spreading this virus variant to other places. Stop all Passengers from the UK NOW!

    • Anonymous says:

And hopefully the UK will stop all flights into the UK (including from Cayman) tomorrow when it introduces new restrictions.

    • Anonymous says:

What do you mean, loyal to your colonial master?! Those flights are entirely for the benefit of Caymanians, to get them home and also back to our universities where they enjoy the best level of education. Oh, and they bring your UK-paid for vaccines as well!

This is really nothing to be concerned about. There are going to be positive cases here, but they aren’t in the general public. The health care workers are taking appropriate precautions. As much as people like to give the CI government grief, they have absolutely done a great job controlling the spread of this virus here

  18. Anonymous says:

The authorities have not released the gender, age or general health of the patient, and there is also no indication which country the they had travelled from or which strain of the virus they have.

Why allow travelers from covid stricken countries to come to Cayman?

    • Anonymous says:

That would mean no incoming flights at all & no way for students to attend classes overseas (some, like pre meds) need face to face teaching/work in clinics & hospitals to qualify.
Students here for Christmas went out on the last BA flight & a few, like Caymanians working in Europe, extended until the next.

  19. Banon says:

I wish the traveler a speedy recovery. We are so blessed to be protected from these travelers. Thank you CIG.

  20. Anonymous says:

I pray that the patient makes a full recovery. This case just goes to show that all of the border controls we have in place are necessary. Cayman has been a real global leader in the efforts to control the pandemic. Let’s not let our guard down now.

I was looking at the Cayman Islands Government Dashboard for COVID-19 and it said that 65,729 people have been tested so far. Cayman’s population is around 65,722 as of January, 2020. I’m just curious as to why it is reported like this. If I did not know any better I would think that the whole of the Cayman Islands population were tested. It should have been broken down differently, Residents, Returning Residents, Work Permit Holders etc. I also think that Work Permit Grants should not have been given permission or allowed to enter the country until the Boarders were fully open whenever that might be. I’m sure there are jobs that Caymanians, people with Residency could do but all this Government cares about is how much money they are making on Work Permits and are not worried about the safety of it’s own people. it’s just a matter of time before the new COVID varient will be on our shores. It only take one idiot to escape quarantine and start community spread and we will all be back to where we were in Match, 2020.

    • Anonymous says:

thats a lie if they say everyone in cayman has been tested.

      • Anonymous says:

Some people get tested repeatedly – like airport staff. Eliminating the retests from the stats would be helpful.

    • Anonymous says:

That’s the number of tests performed not number of persons tested. Two very different things!!

When they do at least 2 tests on each traveler plus multiple times testing others….the numbers add up.

Is that the number of people tested or the number of tests administered? Many front-line workers have been tested multiple times.

Some people are tested weekly – i think the number relates to the number of tests given, not the number of people tested.

Hank Aaron the legendary baseballer, expressed pride after being injected with the COVID-19 vaccination jab. The iconic Hall of Famer hoped his willingness to be vaccinated would help lessen concerns some Black Americans may have about receiving the shot. Two weeks later he was dead.

How well I remember as a kid watching Hank Aaron on television, April 8, 1974, break Babe Ruth’s home run record, it was a truly historic occasion and thrilling to witness it. Fast forward all the way to January 5, 2021, and Hank Aaron looked really good for his age, a veritable ‘picture of health’ you might say. Then Hank decided to step up and ‘take one for the team’, and publicly volunteer to receive the COVID-19 vaccine jab. 2 weeks later, Hank Aaron was dead, and so are dozens of other people who took the jab.

While the death of Hank Aaron is indeed tragic, it is not at all surprising. The mRNA vaccine has never before been approved for human use, due to it’s unknown side effects both short and long term, and it is truly gambling with your life should you chose to be injected with it.

In Florida, a doctor died just days after receiving the COVID jab, in Norway 23 people died after getting the shot, 7 people died in Germany, and the list of adverse reactions are already in the thousands. Funny thing, though, when someone with a preexisting condition does while COVID positive, it is listed as a COVID death no matter the actual cause. But when someone with a preexisting condition dies after getting a COVID vaccine jab, they never attribute the cause of death to the vaccine. This is how deceitful and duplicitous the whole system is, and everyone from the pharmaceutical companies that make the shots, to the governments who force it on people, to the fake news media who attempts to shame you into taking it, they are all keeping you from the truth. So what’s the truth about the COVID-19 vaccine?

The truth about the COVID vaccine is that it is untested, it is unproven, and there is no guarantee that even if you live through it, as Hank Aaron did not, that it can protect you from the COVID-19 virus. Under no condition of any kind, for any reason, would I ever agree to have this scary substance injected into my body.

A California resident who tested positive for COVID-19 in late December died last week several hours after receiving a shot of the vaccine, officials have announced.

The individual, who has not been named, reportedly died in Placer County, in the greater Sacramento area, on Thursday.

      CNS:
(KTLA5 News) “There are multiple local, state, and federal agencies actively investigating this case,” the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said. “Any reports surrounding the cause of death are premature, pending the outcome of the investigation.”

Dr. Dean Blumberg, an infectious disease expert at UC Davis Children’s hospital, said people should not be too quick to place blame.

“Many people are going to make the connection with the vaccine because of the timing,” he said.

Blumberg told KTXL that his “first inclination is that it’s probably not related to the vaccine.”

But what if it is killing people? You might mock it but if you keep an open mind then why wouldn’t you question it. This is one person but there are others that aren’t openly reaching the tabloids… how many deaths after vaccine of elderly could have been attributed to having the vaccine and how many not. I bet there is no investigations until more come to light. But all covid deaths are highlighted way more??

CNS: All you are doing is trying to scare people about the vaccine, which may put them at risk of contracting covid. There is a massive concentration of scientists and researchers all over the world looking into all aspects of the disease and its cures and remedies and we are all learning more about it all the time. But keeping an open mind means keeping an eye on credible sources. This does not include Peter Hitchens writing in the Daily Mail.
