Cuban Migrants rescued by Mexican Navy

(CNS): The 14 Cuban migrants that Customs and Border Control admitted to losing on Friday, five days after the Department of Public Safety Communications (DPSC) lost connection with their electronic tags, have appeared alive and well in Cancun after being rescued by the Mexican Navy, according to local media reports. The missing migrants made it to Mexican waters aboard the Capt. Joshua, a 30-foot vessel, before they were found by the navy.

The group was taken to the naval base for medical attention, where they have requested political asylum.

CBC and DPSC said Friday that they were investigating how the authorities had lost contact with all fourteen people, who had been living in private accommodation with electronic tags while their applications here were being addressed.

  1. Get up, stand up: stand up for your rights! says:

The more Cubans abandon Cuba for lack of democracy, the less Cubans to fight for Cuba’s democracy; and Caymanian democracy can only be defended by those who 1. run for office and 2. register to vote.
    Just sayin’

Should have taken Bernie’s floating bar instead

So they admitted losing them on the same day that the Mexican press announced that they had been rescued by the navy. What do you reckon the odds are that had they not been picked up by the Mexican navy we would never have heard anything about it.

Biden is in so them borders will soon be open for all.

    • Donnie says:

That is totally logical to a Trump supporter since the wet foot/dry foot policy was ended in January 2017 when Biden was vice President😂
You’d better send them $$s that your boss keeps begging for.

Which he did 7 days before leaving office, despite having been there 8 years. And which of course was a policy introduced by another Democrat, Bill Clinton. And I suspect the original poster is talking about policies on illegal immigration in general, rather than the Cuban specific wet foot dry foot policy. No Trump supporter myself, but try and be logical and consistent.

I am laughing so hard at expats and residents who are pleased to see them go.
Just remember, they escaped a communist, police state country.
I guess they did not want to live in another.
They saw the writing on the wall, got together and executed a game plan.
    I say, well done guys.
When the shit hits the fan in Cayman and police and army checking all cars, you will have wished that you had joined them.
Remember Caymanians, your forefathers also chose to leave a shit hole and now the shit hole has followed you.
    The end result=shit hole.
Time to put the myth of King George to rest, don’t you think?
Caymanians, I am talking to you.

You seem very angry about something, I suggest you go and lie down in a dark quiet room and not come back out until after the apocalypse.

      • Anonymous says:

Very angry about the corruption in Cayman and the fact that nothing is done about it. No dark room is going to help, only the truth.

    • Anonymous says:

Man, put down that stuff you smoking😂😂😂

    • AF says:

10:31 are you okay? I used to be angry and frustrated then I realised that I was so fortunate to live in these beloved islands. All of my anger quickly disappeared.

    • Anonymous says:

I am joining them. As you said, the writing is on the wall. Cayman is heading downhill fast. Cayman will be no different than Cuba soon.

  6. Anonymous says:

Best wishes!!! But do not expect to return. The grass is not greener anywhere sorry to let them or others know that.

  7. Anonymous says:

Thank God an boat they gone, a big ease up on tax payers. good christmas present.

  8. Anonymous says:

Rescued my foot. Bunch of con artists.

  9. Anonymous says:

I keep wondering why they don’t just leave from the western tip of Cuba and make the journey to Mexico from there. A whole lot closer than Cuba to Cayman to Mexico, and lot less stress for Cayman.

  10. Anonymous says:

People from the CBC need to be fired, and right before Christmas, sadly. Who is the registered owner of Capt Joshua?

  11. Anonymous says:

Who owns the Capt Joshua? Because its not at all suspcious that the Captain would accept 14 passengers for a quick trip to Mexico, without passports or papers.

  12. anon says:

When did the DSPC last monitor their electronic tags, I sense a coverup here.

  13. Anonymous says:

Glad they made it safely. If they wanted to go let them go and it will better on our Government purse.Housing them surely cost and then they can be so ungrateful and so demanding. God bless them on their journey. We can only do so much but it looks like people think the government purse has no bottom. The money it take to house/feed them can go towards our older Caymanians and those with special needs now.

You could be the poster child of Caymanian Christianity.

      • Anonymous says:

True Christianity has not yet been manifested.
When you see the broken-hearted healed, the blind to see, the deaf to hear, the lame to walk and the sick to be healed, then true Christianity has manifested itself among you.
Until that day, all you have is organized religion based on MONEY!
Jesus is Lord and He will judge these charlatans who take money from the people for nothing.

Bit below the belt old bean – don’t you think? You may not like the reference to God but the rest of the post was spot on.

    • Anonymous says:

What makes you think the money saved will go toward Caymanians in need? It will get tipped back in the trough that is used to feed developers concessions, Cayman Airways, the Turtle farm, the Cayman regiment, the endless construction trough that is the airport and high schools, civil service bonuses….

      • Anonymous says:

Cayman regiment is a joke. Needs to be disbanded and send the guns back to UK. Why do we need rocket launchers in Cayman?

      • Anonymous says:

12:06am. You got hit in the head? When has civil sernavts got bonuses? Or you had a few drinks. Sober up in time for the nolidays.

It feels to me as if somebody did the right thing.

Hey, close to Christmas, they have a boat and the desire to go. Pandemic ain’t going to change things soon. Better to die on the open ocean trying for a new life than rot in holding.

Some might believe that God sent them a fishing boat, and I’m good with that.

    • Anonymous says:

Or they simply stole it and someone has now lost their livelihood just before Christmas? Boats like that don’t appear out of thin air – who owns it?

      • Anonymous says:

Well, the story says they were rescued by the Mexican Navy. They obviously came here in a vessel of some sort. I would expect that they departed in same.

      • Anonymous says:

They didn’t steal a boat. But I’m sure someone will claim they did. Very convenient

        • Anonymous says:

I suspect CIG arranged the whole “escape”………. But I don’t care.

        • Anonymous says:

7:47 How do you know they didn’t steal it? Where did they get the boat from? Tell me that!

          • Anonymous says:

Comprehension isn’t your strong suit, is it?

          • Anonymous says:

Hmm lets think. They not only manage to locate a boat, but fill it with fuel, water and provisions, then hot wire it, all without anyone noticing. Then they take the boat and no one notices that it is missing for a week. Yeah, sounds likely.

  15. Anonymous says:

I’m glad they are safe, but the incompetence of the CIG is beyond appalling. Issue after issue it is like 3 year olds supervising 2 year olds. And yet we think we can govern ourselves.

  16. Anonymous says:

Adiós, amigo. Te vamos a extrañar 🤥

  17. Anonymous says:

This is how great it is to live under Cuban socialism with the best free healthcare and education in the world!
