Latest COVID-19 tests all negative

(CNS): Chief Medical Officer Dr John Lee said Tuesday that all of the 276 COVID-19 tests carried out over the last day were negative. As many countries are currently seeing spikes in the spread of infection, the Cayman Islands remains largely free of the virus, with no indication that the isolation programme is failing. There are just eight active cases at present among travellers who remain in quarantine. Only one person has symptoms of the coronavirus and that is the patient who was admitted to hospital several weeks ago and remains in critical care on a ventilator.

Guess Moses decided not to run in 2021 if he is bringing people with Covid top the Brac and Little.

It is working on Grand Cayman, why not the Brac? Home owners who love it there and wish to go won’t breach rules.

Brac might work with direct flights to the Brac but taking possibly infected people on the Twin Otter over to Little Cayman would be a disaster waiting to happen.

The problem is getting people there.

The day after the government decided to risk the lives of people on Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, CNN points out how ridiculous their plan is:

“If you think a negative test result means you don’t have coronavirus, you could be wrong — it can take days before a new infection shows up on a Covid-19 test. It is possible to be harboring the virus, but be testing negative and have no symptoms in the early stages of infection…

A study in the medical journal Annals of Internal Medicine examined false-negative test results of people who actually had Covid-19. The study estimated that during four days of infection before symptoms typically started, the probability of getting an incorrect/negative test result on Day 1 was 100%.
On the day people started showing symptoms, the average false-negative rate had dropped to 38%, according to the study. Three days after symptoms started, the false-negative rate dropped to 20%.
Absolutely. “People sort of feel like if you test (negative), you’re out of the woods. And you’re kind of not,” said Dr. Rochelle Walensky, chief of the infectious diseases division at Massachusetts General Hospital.
For people who get sick with Covid-19, symptoms can take up to two weeks to appear, but the average time is about five days, Walensky said.
“It’s generally thought that you’re most infectious the two days before that day and the two days after that,” she added.”

So why not put all the facts that the labs have published and admit that the best day to test with the least chance of a false negative is day 7/8 after possible exposure. So why are we waiting so long here.

There is an article on the other site this morning indicating that people arriving from overseas are going to be allowed to fly directly on to the Sister Islands without quarantining on GCM. If true that it is worrying. The Twin Otter is tiny and there is no partition separating the pilots from potentially infected and infectious passengers. Similarly, they would be risking the lives of other passengers who would be required to fly in a tiny plane with infected and infectious passengers coming from the US and UK and Jamaica.
I know that there are people in the civil service who don’t like Brackers but this is crazy. We were planning a staycation on Little Cayman but if that story is true we will be cancelling. A staycation is not worth dying for.
