Active COVID-19 cases in isolation increase

(CNS): Another positive case of COVID-19 found in a traveller during routine screening Thursday has increased active cases to 11. There was just one positive test, however, in the batch of 275 samples over the last day, increasing the country’s ongoing tally of the virus cases to 245. The latest positive individual is asymptomatic and remains in isolation.

The only patient suffering coronavirus symptoms among the eleven active cases is the person who was hospitalised several weeks ago and who remains in critical care.

The total number of people in isolation, either at a government facility or in their homes as required by the Medical Officer of Health at present is 643.

Never seen so many incompetent people in my life. On here and as well on cayman compass. Every time there is a new COVID-19 some caymanian yelling to close the border. Every single person who touches down on this island on a commercial flight is subjected to mandatory two week quarantine. Then have to be tested before they even leave their quarantine facilities. As I recall there was a community transmission of COVID-19 at the primary school who in fact had no interaction with a incoming traveler. So what does that mean? Hmmm the coronavirus never went away on island. Only half of the population was tested. less testing means less chances for positive cases. Until everyone is tested Cayman Islands is not in fact COVID-19 free.

Not sure which scientific source you used for LAMP but the NIH published the following:

“Five of the studies evaluated reverse transcription loop mediated isothermal amplification (RT-LAMP). four reported sensitivity of 100% and specificity of 95.6 to 100%, and one study reported accuracy of 92.9%.24”

There is a helpful reminder reported today by CNN which was reporting on a press conference from the World Health Organization

‘Reducing the two-week quarantine that some countries currently impose on arriving travelers could lead to authorities missing potential coronavirus cases, according to the World Health Organization’s Covid-19 technical lead, Maria Van Kerkhove.
“There is a balanced approach that if there is a reduction in that 14-day period, there are some risks that are associated with that, in terms of missing potential cases,” Van Kerkhove said during a daily briefing Friday.”

Van Kerkhove said WHO’s recommendations on this have remained the same and that they were “based on science.”

“Our guidance for incubation period is 14 days, and that’s based on the amount of time most individuals, 95% of individuals, will develop symptoms after exposure,” the epidemiologist said.’

We are allowing more and more people to come in from places with more and more Covid and we are allowing them to travel to Cayman without airport day of departure testing. Once they arrive we are allowing them to self-isolate on all 3 islands in so many places that proper monitoring is impossible. It seems like the plan is to keep going in that direction until the system inevitably breaks and we once again have community spread.

How many of the 643 people are on each island? It would be helpful to know this information from now on.

Somebody needs to tell us which flights to Cayman Brac and Little Cayman will have these people arriving from the US, the England and Jamaica on them so we can avoid them. I don’t want my family on a plane with people just arriving in Cayman who may be infected.

Agreed, but they did say that “international flights” will stop into the Brac to offload returning passengers (which all passengers will be needing to isolate/quarantine anyway) so that will not be a domestic flight and understandable.. however the question is, how will the persons for LITTLE CAYMAN get there without mixing, both at the airport and in the plane, if allowed to join a domestic flight with regular passengers.

      • Anonymous says:

They also say that people will be allowed to quarantine on the Brac and Little Cayman starting Saturday 7 November when there are no international flights stopping on the Brac – only flights coming to Grand Cayman.

Only direct flights to the Brac are from Miami no where else so from other place they will have to fly the Express small planes, so we need to know which flights international passengers are on, so we can avoid them flights . Come on Hon Moses put something in place to let us know that, ok

Why are people not being checked before boarding planes to Cayman. dangerous game being played. where masks do help. no social distancing on plane and people do remove masks from time to time to drink or eat of they bri g food.

Exactly!!! No matter how long we’re having them stay in quarantine, EVERY person should have to test negative before boarding a flight to Csyman,
