Stormy weather brewing over Caribbean

(CNS): The Cayman Islands can expect to experience some stormy weather in the coming days as a result of a tropical wave across our area that could become a tropical depression by the weekend. Local forecasters are predicting isolated thunderstorms across the Cayman Islands on Thursday, becoming more widespread tonight and throughout the day Friday

The US National Hurricane Center is giving this wave, which is producing a large area of disorganised showers and thunderstorms, a 70% chance of forming into a tropical depression before reaching the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula on Saturday.

Very strange to generate so quickly and so close.

This is normal for this time of year. Start of the hurricane season they develop off of the coast of African and move across the Atlantic often gaining strength. This time of year they form in the Caribbean basin. They tend to be less powerful but we should never get complacent.

        Also Mitch & Michelle IIRC.

That area south of us is ‘dangerous’ to Cayman because late season storms form there regularly and we get very little notice because they are so close. Though often we get the ‘forming’ weather (like right now) but by the time they get large/organised/hurricane they’ve moved past us. So keep watch but don’t panic, as always during hurricane season. (And pray and support, or at lest have empathy, for our neighbours wherever the storms go. Our number will eventually come back up too.)
