(CNS): Health officials will be carrying out follow-up COVID-19 tests this weekend in connection with the Red Bay Primary School students and their families who have been isolating since one student tested positive for the virus. While the issue came to light last Friday, the last contact the Year 2 group and relevant staff had with the child was the previous Friday. This means their 14 days of isolation from contact ends tomorrow.

The Health Services Authority said that on Saturday, 17 October, it will be in contact with everyone needing a test who was involved in the emergency response at Red Bay Primary School. Testing will take place at the Cayman Islands Hospital and appointment times and further information will be provided to those effected shortly.

Meanwhile, Dr John Lee, the chief medical officer, reported that all of the 361 tests for COVID-19 carried out over the last day were negative. Twelve people are currently infected with the virus but all of them are in isolation at home or government quarantine, with the exception of one person who remains isolated in the hospital intensive care unit.

Three other people who have tested positive are also showing symptoms associated with this coronavirus.

Here’s hoping for 20-30 positives, lockdown and traffic easing. March, April and May were so bliss, how living on a tropical Island should be.

The present regulations for arriving passengers are almost perfect. The problem with it is that some – not all, of those passengers are not being honest with themselves or us. Another condition is necessary before they are allowed entrance. “Give a signed statement confirming that they were not exposed in any way that can possibly have infected them”. Of they test positive after arriving an investigation should be made at their origin and if their statement is proven wrong they should be fined for contempt. I know that that will be difficult but we only need to prove one person and the misinformation will cease.
Caymanians deserve better protection. We have already done our share.

A signed statement is a waste of time. Just add the pre-arrival test to what is already in place. That would definitely catch some of these positives before they come to the island. They are putting the airport workers at risk that could be greatly reduced if persons had to be tested negative to travel.

The important thing is to keep them pledging,’ he explained to his cohorts. ‘It doesn’t matter
whether they mean it or not. That’s why they make little kids pledge allegiance even before they know what “pledge” and “allegiance” mean.’ To Captain Piltchard and Captain Wren, the Glorious Loyalty Oath Crusade was a glorious pain in the ass, since it complicated their task of organizing the crews for each combat mission. Men were tied up all over the squadron signing, pledging and singing, and the missions took hours longer to get under way. Effective emergency action became impossible, but Captain Piltchard and Captain Wren were both too timid to raise any outcry against Captain Black, who scrupulously enforced each day the doctrine of ‘Continual Reaffirmation’ that he had originated, a doctrine designed to trap all those men who had become disloyal since the last time they had signed a loyalty oath the day before.

Meanwhile Disney World and Universal are open. And persons from Cayman have visited both and returned to the island Covid free. If and when Cayman opens up we need to change the schooling system. Eliminate History, add another math class. Eliminate English, add yet another math class. Eliminate social studies, add statistics, Eliminate Turtle nest finding and add the study for of demographics.

Just spent the last 1 1/2 hour on many travel websites (Caribbean and Hawaii) looking to book holiday travel plans. Their plans were orderly, easy to understand, easy to follow, no quarantine, no geofencing or threats of arrest, and very welcoming. The flights are accessible and so are the hotels. Decent prices especially for over the holidays. Now, just to decide where to book. Most have a pretest 7 days in advance. Some have testing at the airport. Most have a mask policy in public places. All mention social distancing. Some have government excursions only. Sounds very reasonable.

So they are to leave isolation to get tested? How does this make any sense?

At what point does the population decide they’ve had enough of this foolishness?

I’d like to see someone challenge this imposed isolation in court.

Does someone know if CIG sought and has made available a legal opinion on this?

Is it legal for a government to confine someone against their will if there is no clear basis (e.g. a positive PCR test) to think that the person presents a danger to themselves or others?

The population has already reached this decision. It will be reflected in May should it continue to be ignored until then.

Gibraltar has a similar population as Cayman, shares a border with Spain and has not shutdown its borders, imposed mandatory quarantines, or done obligatory tests on arrivals. Guess how many COVID deaths there has been. ZERO! Just people taking reasonable precautions for their own health and a competent government which doesn’t infantilise its populace. Maybe instead of hysteria Caymanians should try it out?

    This is rediculous and unwarranted.

    The hysteria continues…

What a joke. I didn’t bother to isolate myself or my family, nor will we be showing up for any ridiculous exit test.

2:11 so you are openly admitting that you didn’t abide by the regulations that were asked of you.
      You are selfish and disgusting

      • Anonymous says:

Except they are not regulations at all, they are unwarranted and unenforceable over-reactionary suggestions.

      • Anonymous says:

They the only thing they admitted to is not subjecting themselves and their families to an overreaching state.

In other parts of the world they are protesting this BS crammed down our throats by an out of touch gerontocracy…
