(CNS): Dominic Dacres (42) and Nick Smith (58) have both been cleared by a jury of fraud allegations and falsely claiming overtime while they worked as hospital security officers. Smith was found not guilty of two counts of false accounting and a single count of breach of trust, while Dacres was acquitted on one count of obtaining a money transfer by deception. The men walked free on Tuesday after the crown failed to prove the case.

While it was evident from the crown’s case that the documentation regarding the overtime pay was awry, it was never clear that it was dishonesty rather than incompetence, as prosecutors failed to show any pecuniary advantage for Smith, the supervisor of the team he was accused of claiming false invoices for.

The hospital was said to have lost tens of thousands of dollars for overtime it paid for but was never worked. The men, however, claimed that the money was worked for but was just recorded incorrectly.

I think the government should make ever expat write a test when they get here. This test should include the following – extremely basic math, 10 to 20 basic grammar questions, how to act in a public setting such as waiting in line/waiting your turn etc and 20 to 30 questions about the basics of your field. If you get more than 30% wrong, they should find someone else to fill the position. I have more encounters with people here that cant even read an analog clock than I should have anywhere. Protect yourself Cayman, it will be beneficial in the end.

What is so hurtful is that Government does not really want to hire people with good common sense, lots of policiations/ministers, chief officers and deputy’s , and others from the top and down etc, etc does NOT any common sense .

ACC ha ha they can’t catch a cold

You are bereft of common sense. The DPP’ prosecutes matters not the ACC. And who knows how a
jury will decide. Most of us read this and understood something isn’t right. How is that these persons got away with this. You read this and went into the rabbit hole!

Either way another checkmark in the DPP loss column. It gets harder and harder to understand the cases they pick to go to trial. I guess no one cares that they lose all the time so they don’t care either.

Yes good luck Caymanians race to the bottom-guess that Caymanian isn’t really selling his labour more likely a capital man.

Too bad not much access to capital around here thankfully for this guy.

Promoting someone who didn’t complete high school to supervisor isn’t smart. Indicative of the public services in general.

Something smells like doo doo here.

I think using the term ‘scapegoats’ is appropriate here. Someone else clearly screwed up and tried to shift the blame.
