(CNS): The Cayman Islands’ world famous supermodel, Selita Ebanks, will be making a guest appearance this weekend on home turf when she headlines a charity gala at the Ritz-Carlton. Ebanks, who will be the guest speaker at this year’s Breast Cancer Foundation Gala, grew up mostly in Cayman before moving to New York and strutting the catwalks of Europe and gracing the covers of international magazines when she was still a teenager.

Alongside a lucrative career in entertainment as a successful reality TV star, Ebanks (37) is also an active humanitarian, working with Shine on Sierra Leone, New Yorkers for Children and Cayman’s Stardom Youth Foundation.

“Cancer is something that affects us all,” Ebanks said in a press release from the foundation promoting the gala. “It has no face, size, religion, race or age. Breast cancer is possibly the most serious health issue women face. One in eight will develop some form of invasive breast cancer and until that statistic is no more, I will continue to lend my voice to support awareness to help eradicate and manage incidences of breast cancer for everyone.”

Janette Fitzgerald, chief administrator for the Breast Cancer Foundation of Cayman, said the non-profit was excited to get Ebanks’ support for the important fundraiser.

Due to COVID-19 protocols, the number of tickets available for this year’s Gala has been reduced, though the event is fully covered by the hotels’ exemption. Foundation officials said they were confident that this year’s event, although different, will be a “fun evening for all attendees”.

Interested sponsors and those who can make donations for the auctions should email Fitzgerald at info@breastcancerfoundation.ky

Attended this event and must say Selita was, by far, the best speaker this event has ever seen. Honest, funny, humble, local and genuinely nervous….really human.

Mammograms don’t prevent breast cancer, but they can save lives by finding breast cancer as early as possible.

The main risk of mammograms is that they aren’t perfect.
The chance of having a false positive is about 50-60 percent*.

These women endure: (1) More psychological stress because of the worry, and (2) More “surveillance” which means more frequent mammograms and higher radiation doses. ❗️Stress and cancer have been linked for ages.

Breast cancer diagnosis is often linked with low D3 levels. In fact WHO now rated low D3 as one of the significant risk factors for breast cancer.

Vitamin D3 derived from sunlight turns the immune system back on and allows the pituitary to release hormones properly. Being in nature under sunlight lowers STRESS LEVEL. It reduces blood pressure, anxiety and depression. Sunlight stimulates nitric oxide** release to vasodialate the surface vessels to decrease the blood pressure. This reduces stress and lowers anxiety because dopamine rises. RISING DOPAMINE IMPROVES MOOD! That lowers stress further.
    🌞Vitamin D3 pills don’t do that🌞❗️

You won’t hear that on the mainstream media or Breast Cancer fundraising event.

** nitrogen oxide, nitrogen monoxide is a molecular, chemical compound with a chemical formula of nitric oxide that is a colorless gas under standard conditions. Nitric oxide, is also known as the ‘endothelium-derived relaxing factor’. The endothelium of blood vessels uses nitric oxide to signal the surrounding smooth muscle to relax, thus resulting in vasodilation and increasing blood flow so we can collect a lot of UV light.

What has she done recently to retain the title of supermodel? Wasn’t she cut from Victoria Secret and also sue by another model for breaking her nose?

Not much of a role model…

Breast cancer is a lucrative business. Just look at the “free” pink goodies. They are not free but paid with your donations and will end up in the Dump next day.

Nobody ever talks about breast or other cancers prevention. Eat your veggie and exercise don’t count.

Even though cayman breast cancer foundation supports and helps local women, it does nothing to reduce risks of getting breast cancer in the first place.

I’d recommend for a change to use donated money and randomly test umbilical cords blood and breast milk for toxins. Then take the findings to people who are being handsomely compensated to protect health of people in The Cayman Islands.

Boyan Slat, the CEO of TheOceanCleanup isn’t spending money on spreading awareness on the Oceans pollution. He is working on cleaning The Pacific Garbage Vortex, testing the latest technology in ocean cleanups, employs the brightest minds who are passioned to make the world a better place to live.

Why comparisons to seemingly unrelated problem? The approach to solve it. What Cayman foundation does is honorable. Yet, it is like spitting against the wind. It must play bigger role in making the Cayman Islands environmentally safe place to live and raise children. Without fear of getting breast cancer.

      no money in environmental safety

What you say has some merit, but you fail to see the prevention work they do, and the awareness for early detection. You are assuming it is the environment, yet there are so many variations of the environment that still lead to all kinds of cancers and illnesses.
