Quarantine numbers jump back up

(CNS): Following the release of around 100 people who had completed their quarantine period yesterday, the figure has since jumped back up to 349 people now that everyone who went into isolation either at the government facility or at home with a geofence wristband this week has been officially counted. Chief Medical Officer Dr John Lee also reported another 205 negative COVID-19 test results over the last day.

PCR testing continues to allow Cayman to monitor any potential reappearance of the virus in the community as well as those in quarantine. But the HSA and Health City have also been carrying out antibody tests and has now undertaken a total of 2,557, with 63 positive cases emerging.

Most of these samples have been taken from healthcare and front-line workers as well as those who were known to have had coronavirus as a result of a positive PCR test or were in the same household as someone else who was positive. This means that the positive rate of 2.5% is not a reflection of the community and it is clear that less than 1% of the community here has ever had the virus.

Only eleven people who have taken an antibody test have no identified COVID-19 contact or travel history. With little information now being gleaned from antibody testing, the CMO said he will not be reporting antibody test results going forward, although the results will continue to be collected.

Still no cure for stupid: 12 Crew Test Positive on TUI (Royal Caribbean) Mein Schiff Cruise Ship in Greece…all 600 crew had previously undergone 14 days self-isolation (which on its own doesn’t do anything without another clearance test). 900 overly-optimistic guests now potentially exposed on board.

I disagree strongly on several points.

The USA did not make Coronavirus “a headline and F’ed the entire world.” (Your words).

Actually our Gov’t (even more corrupt than CIG) downplayed and ignored advice and we are paying the price with huge deaths (many more than what is being reported), and will pay dearly for life-long health ramifications with many citizens (vascular and pulmonary; heart and lungs).

I do agree with your comment on folks not taking the vaccine when available. We (USA) have lost considerable faith in the CDC and FDA for guidance due to political interference. We have a fool (a reality-show idiot, business failure, narcissistic, misogynist, school-yard bully) as president.

Any USA near-term vaccine will be viewed as rushed without the necessary trials, and many (myself included) will not take it until efficacy is proven.

While it is true that many die world-wide from other causes, this pandemic is not to be simply discarded as a typical secondary event.

I commend Cayman for its response even with a few bumps and hurdles – well done my friends!

I read and watch for when I can return safely. Yesterday I travelled from Wyoming, through Chicago to Ohio. Chicago O’Hara airport looked like a ghost town on a Saturday. Empty gates, few planes… not good.

    Stay safe!

      Oh, dear,

just like with LGBT issues in Cayman you BELIEVE in what you’re saying. You’re not alone. And no arguments in the world would make you change your believes.

But there is equally large number of people who don’t agree with you.

So what do we do in such a case? How do we peacefully reconcile different believes?

Mass media isn’t helping but adding fuel to the fire. The word science became an oxymoron. Who people to believe and trust?

Personally, neither media nor scientists can convince me that a government, any government is responsible for virus spreading and deaths. Unless of course one lives on a tiny rock surrounded by sea and closes its borders. Cayman did reach the state of virus elimination. Temporary. Because the virus can’t be eradicated. As for the rest of the world, no measures would have prevented loss of lives.

Pandemics are unavoidable, they just happens, take its course and many lives with it and disappear on its own. We are not smart enough to understand its purpose on a grand scale.

As with any new outbreak of contagious disease scientists and medical establishments start from scratch. First they have to properly identify the villain, then develop medicine if it doesn’t exists already. But sometime no medicine can help the infected and their own immune system is the only hope. This is the way things are. Even in 21st century. We’re not as powerful as we used to believe.

What is specific for 21st century is how fast mass hysteria and fear (along with fake news) spread around the globe. Each of us can control this on an individual level.

The US govt last week updated the survival rates (i.e., IF infected) for Covid19:
      0-19 99.997%
      20-49 99.98%
      50-69 99.5%
      70+ 94.6%
With numbers like these, we need to ask our “public health experts”, a term I now use lightly, why a vaccine is even needed.

A vaccine is needed to combat the fear. It is only the fear that has driven us to this point. Everything that has changed has done so out of fear. The percentage of people effected directly by the virus is very small compared to those effected by the lock down and close up. I do understand that death is involved but not even to the degree of heart disease. And much less than the ordinary everyday mortality rate of anywhere And how much do we all let it effect us? If dying of heart disease was so scary would we have laws about what you can legally eat?

but then they start screaming for mandatory vaccinations…

Here is what someone had said, admitting he has mental issues and need to talk to someone:
“..I once feared that strangers passing by might hurt me, now I fear people may have COVID and not show symptoms.”

There s practically nothing that the Government says that I actually believe.
I feel sorry for the press. They have to go on “official” releases, bullshit or not.
At least CNS has a platform that allows us to call them out.

Very true. We have been propped up artificially by the pension injection and the true reckoning sadly will come soon when the gov decides to cut off the free money valve they are paying to hospitality workers and the nau. Brace yourself, winter is coming.

Hopefully the numbers will double as Cayman finally opens its doors to allow people to return, and people to leave and return while going through Quarantine to insure the safety of everyone else.

How many people are still in Govt quarantine and will therebe enough places for thos returning on the Oct 15th flight?.

  8. Anonymous says:

The numbers keep increasing, because people are returning to work here, yet the born and bred caymaians can’t get jobs. When are we going to march against injustice. I hope the next set of legislatures will take the bull by the horn and pass laws for the caymanian people.
Looking forward to a clean sweep and some Mr. Hurry.

Cayman government literally destroyed the cayman economy by shutting down the island, and you want more government to “fix” the problem? How about less government and actually open the island again if you really care about people and their incomes.

    • Anonymous says:

Poor Caymanian. Instead of being self reliant they are waiting for government to feed them and get them work. They still don’t understand why expats get jobs and they can’t.

If your unemployable here and girl then you still goan be unemployable when all the expats go home.

Why doesn’t the good Dr give us some useful statistics? Like what percentage of those shacked up with positives have also contracted the ‘rona?

    • Anonymous says:

Impossible to register how many are exposed on the aircraft itself. Everyone has a negative PCR 72hrs prior to air transfer and you take your chances on all the connections prior to the BA or CAL repatriation flight that precedes quarantine. What else do you want?!?

    • Anonymous says:

I agree with your post. But it never ceases to amaze me why others don’t want knowledge. It’s as if they’re afraid to find out the basis for their fears is false. They simply don’t want to hear the answer maybe zero.

“Only eleven people who have taken an antibody test have no identified COVID-19 contact or travel history.” Can you please make that clearer? I do not understand it. Has everybody else had contact, and how many have taken the test?

    • Anonymous says:

I believe it means that of those that tested positive, only eleven did not have identifiable direct contact from a known coronavirus infested individual. So the vast majority had a known contact (family, friend, co-worker). The eleven with an unknown contact are classified as “community” infected.

This is good! Many community infections would indicate that the infection is spreading and contact tracing is difficult.

Others may correct me if I am wrong.

They won’t report the antibody test results as they prove their gross overreaction and resulting economic suicide.

    • Anonymous says:

And also the tests are useless.
Out of 6 staff 3 tested positive on PCR and all where in close contact ALL 6 have shown no antibodies on two follow up test. The Dr even says that’s normal…what’s the point?

        9:31 am YOU ARE CORRECT

I had posted a thorough explanation about this awhile ago. Nobody paid any attention and now you are asking.
        • There are four(actually 5) types of antibodies that each have different functions: IgM, IgG, IgA, and IgE.
        • Current antibody tests for COVID-19 test only IgM and IgG, and assume that IgM represents a recent infection, while IgG will represent a recent or distant infection.
        • French researchers found things work completely differently in COVID-19
        • ..the existing antibody tests are based on false assumptions. IgA, rather than IgM, should be used to indicate a recent infection.

“The test doesn’t differentiate between past and present infection, so it will not be clear from the result whether I currently have the virus or if I had it several months ago.”
“While it will show if I have virus-fighting antibodies or not, it won’t show which type. And the distinction is crucial.”

Exactly, even in the USA, its 99.997% deaths. More die daily from 100 other things. More they test, more show they have it, but they for the most part are all treated or just chill like you would if you had the flu and so forth. 2017, 2.5million people died on Pneumonia, 1/3 children. This was worldwide. What did the world do? Nothing, why? There are treatments. Just like now with this. Instead the USA and their political fight, made this a headline and F’ed the entire world. A vaccine won’t do much, because majority won’t take it. Now you have NY citing, they won’t abide now allow any NY resident to take it without their approval.

in the US there is no manditory masks. Look at this site
        https://www.statista.com/statistics/1113051/number-reported-deaths-from-covid-pneumonia-and-flu-us/

        and it updates daily!

There are more pneumonia deaths in 2020 than covid. It’s time to wake up and realise, if the damn pneumonia is more dangerous than covid. GROW UP. stop fearing covid, damn sheeple. Why do people wear your mask in the car when your alone, who are you infecting, yourself, idiots.

and we wonder how hitler got into power. Easy to see, isn’t it.

There are states with mandated masks in the US. I live in a state where it’s been mandated since early on. Even some cities have fines if you do not wear a mask.
