Over 400 people now in quarantine

| 03/09/2020 | 62 Comments

(CNS): Medical Officer of Health Dr Samuel Williams-Rodriguez reported Thursday that all of the 172 COVID-19 tests carried out over the last day were all negative. Cayman retained its negative status for another day with no active cases of the virus present on island. But there are now over 400 people in government quarantine or in isolation.

While public health officials are confident that the coronavirus is not present anymore in the community, with 402 people now in quarantine or mandated isolation, having returned from overseas, and some 200 new arrivals this week, it is possible that Cayman will record more positives over the next few weeks.

Government’s plans for reopening the borders and changes in quarantine protocol have still not been confirmed and officials from Government Information Services have said that there will be no COVID-19 briefing update tomorrow.

Health officials here have now processed 35,840 tests and the positive tally remains at 205.

The bio button fiasco was meant to kick off for the mid September BA flight, not happening, the BA flight is being quarantined, so add another 200 to that list in 2 weeks time. Bermuda opened their borders on the 1st of July, requiring a test 7 days before you arrive, you then get tested after 4, 8 and 14 days all whilst quarantining at home, guess what, no pandemic armageddon! They didn’t need any fancy gadgets, just a few extra people to keep track of everyone. You don’t need to lock people up under guard for 16 days.

    • Anonymous says:

They didn’t know before the purchase that Bio buttons weren’t intended for monitoring healthy people. Now they can’t use it “off label” without getting into some possible legal trouble.

    • Cayman Failed says:

It’s is clear the Gov’t does not know what it is doing. The Bio Button is dream of Dr Lee and he convinced the MLAs to user them when not available

The communication on opening up Oct 1 is non-existent and zero plan.

With these rules this economy will fail by end of the year and they will be asking what happened

Nothing will be different in April.

Meanwhile the whole population is under threat from dengue and zika as a result of the mosquito infestation.

    Focus Alden. FOCUS!

    • Anonymous says:

Thank God he’s on his way out!

    • Anonymous says:

Calm down. Dengue and zika aren’t indigenous here and are typically carried here by those that have been travelling to Central America, Jamaica and other Caribbean Islands. Not a lot of return travellers are arriving from those places, so while the threat isn’t zero, it’s low right now. Yes, the mosquitoes are bad and annoying, but let’s not start a panic by saying the whole population is under threat from serious diseases just because you don’t like Alden McLaughlin.

How many people are quarantining at home as opposed to the govt facility? I know of quite a few…

People have been selectively quarantining at home for months now and happily no outbreak. It’s time for this to be an option for more than just the very well connected.

Great that’s 500 more people to clog the roadways after quarantine. There wasn’t any reason shamrock road was backed up besides people who don’t go when there is space in the roundabout. Also, stop cutting through shamrock road if you don’t bloody live in red bay or prospect!!!

Well ,I don’t miss that. Pay thousands a month to live in “Paradise” and stuck in traffic. LOL.
Left months ago after 40+ years, so happy.
Wishing you guys all the best.
Kool Aid was no longer user friendly.
Right now in Europe, beautifully sunny in the day, but not too hot or humid and dipping into the 50’s at night.
I sleep with the window open.
Last electric bill $54.00, rent $300, down from $2650 in Cayman. We were deluded.

Take your pick, Italy, Greece, France (South), Spain, Morocco, etc.

If you have money and you choose Cayman, well, you only have yourself to blame. Hope the gated community is working out for you, eh?

So happy for you. Looks like you are doing well. Any reason why you are still actively engaged in what’s happening here? Miss the old rock eh. Let us know when you return … as most will eventually do.

        Sincerely,
        Someone who actually loves Cayman

          I don’t miss ovechlorinated pools

I do miss Ikoa delicious desserts
I do miss swimming in turquoise sea. However I was often stung by invisible sea creatures that would leave “ bicycle chain” marks on my body. Eventually I had to abandon swimming.

Why am I reading your comments? Comedy Central fades in comparison to your comments and Cayman life in general.

If not for people like M.Myles, Derek Haines and CPR, Cayman would quickly become a very sad place to live.

I am not the original poster.

          • Anonymous says:

Interesting. You hold up hating Cayman like a badge of honour. Keep checking in from time to time. Also take some time to research a good therapist which I suspect you will need when you finally come to terms with the fact that Cayman will not come to the bitter end that you hope for us. You name Myles, Haines and CPR as positives for Cayman and I agree with you. If you had taken the time, you would have found a kazillion other reasons. Best to you.

Very little, if anything left of Cayman I fell in love with. The monstrous Dump is the main reason Love turned into hate followed by overdevelopment, traffic and pollution. And this is sad for all involved. With the right leadership Grand Cayman could have been turned into pristine jewel of the Caribbean, not a corrupted wasteland.

              • Fat bastard says:

Cayman is painting itself up in a corner. They can’t control this virus. The financial sector is doing well but only until the next financial crisis. The locals are so paranoid and the expats so selfish. I spent some time there and so glad I didn’t decide on moving there.

      • Anonymous says:

$300 for rent? Good God, what does that look like. Based on your post, you are at least 40+. That type of rent is for college students. Is that really a step up from Cayman?

Green mango you obviously have not left the flat rock!

I pay 400 a month on a mortgage including 4 bedrooms, full and modern kitchen, etc. I easily afford vacations to Europe where coastal lines, ancient architecture, culture and PERFECT weather can be found.

Cayman is not the center of anything besides your tiny perspective.

There will always be a higher price to pay for the finer things in life. Cayman is safe and a beautiful and Paradise to those who love these beautiful Islands So happy for you that you are in a better place. Please do not forget we are also Free of Covid19.

Stop cutting through Prospect Point Road. Those small speed bumps don’t stop speeding & someday a kid crossing the road to go into Montessori school will be killed. Should be large bumps either side of the school.

      • Anonymous says:

Well the road was there before the Montessori, so deal with it.

        • Anonymous says:

The by pass is there for a reason. To by pass the narrow residential road.
The school was given planning permission to be there.
You get over it & use the by pass.

        • Anonymous says:

Huh? So a kid must get hit because the school wasn’t always there? Well, neither was an effin road!

  7. Anonymous says:

Oh come on. Test them before and a few days after. Make them stay in their home in quarantine and trust that they will. If not then tracing will allow us to know who broke the rules and then you can fine them or jail them.

    • Anonymous says:

More and more (in the real world) we hear of persons testing positive, then testing two days later at a different lab the person tests negative. Are persons asymptomatic or are the tests faulty?

Hear from who? What are your sources? I read so much BS in this comment section that just makes me facepalm… If you make a claim, be prepared to back it up. You are not the President of the USA, have some standards.

Crazy to open the Borders next month, it will soon be more cases of the c-virus with all those people in quarantine now plus 200 more coming this week, for those at home is not staying insulation

Family and friends living in European countries have been freely traveling with kids since July-August, visiting Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Turkey. No quarantines, no masks, no health checks. Nobody got sick.
Many friends returning from Miami to their home countries after living in FL for several months, spent many hours on planes, airports, hotels and nobody got sick.

    • Anonymous says:

So I guess 26.5 million people that contracted the disease all actively went out and got infected. Especially those health care workers – they should know better. (Sic)

Cayman is covid free while covid is raging throughout Jamaica. At least according to experts on this website. Oh wait, we can do the math? Cayman had 205 cases out of a population of 60,000. That means 0.34% of Cayman’s population tested positive. In contrast Jamaican had 2,896 cases in a population of 2,961,000 or 0.098% of the population. Jamaica needs to get to 10,000 cases to match Cayman’s percentage. More and more I question the accuracy of the tests. All too often people test positive only to test negative within days – if they use a different lab.

      • Anonymous says:

Yawn. A much higher percentage of Jamaicans died of COVID than Cayman residents. I only need one figure in both countries to know that’s true: Zero Cayman residents died of COVID and the number was higher than zero in Jamaica.

      • Anonymous says:

Or maybe Jamaica is only testing symptomatic people? If you took out all the asymptomatic people from Cayman positive cases and compare like with like, I think you would Jamaica rate would now be much higher compared to Cayman symptomatic rate.

I think you spend too much time indoor. You know, you need sunlight to maintain healthy dopamine levels. Dopamine is made in the eye by sunlight (it can be made in the gut by your microbiome.)
If you lower a population’s dopamine status they become docile, controllable, and suggestive to messages on TV and tech devices………they turn into obedient idiots..

It’s a toss up really. I can’t speak much about Scientology, but if it involves a lot of sci-fi space stories, at least I’d be entertained. After spending my childhood at Southern Baptist Sunday school and going to church there because I was made to go, I found their message more like horror stories. I don’t like horror stories.

That’s because there are no plans to reopen the border and change the prison plans. Lies, lies, lies. I told you people in April – Alden is going to bring Cayman to its knees. He does as he pleases. He cares about no one other than his inner circle, which by definition is himself.
