Minister Juliana O’Connor-Connolly in the LA during the DPB debate

(CNS): The education minister issued a voice message to a pastoral group on Friday, asking them to “petition heaven” and pray for the people, including the governor, who are supporting the Domestic Partnership Law, describing it as “this evil that is being forced upon us”. Juliana O’Connor-Connolly said she expected the legislation would be implemented today (Friday), creating “a seismic shift in our Christian heritage”.

The education minister has been a fervent opponent of the Domestic Partnership Bill and any legislation that supports same-sex couples’ right to a private life. She was one of two Cabinet ministers who voted against the legislation brought by government in July to address the longstanding breach by the authorities here of Cayman’s Bill of Rights and the European Convention on Human Rights.

O’Connor-Connolly’s opposition, along with that of Health Minister Dwayne Seymour, ensured the defeat of the bill, which led to Governor Martyn Roper to announce that, at the direction of the UK, he will be using his reserved powers to pass the bill.

CNS has contacted the Governor’s Office to find out when the bill, which is expected to be a slightly revised, will be implemented and for comment on the minister’s allegations that the governor is forcing evil on the Cayman Islands, and we are awaiting a response.

Good God help us and when you decide to cast down the brim stone and fire make sure it hit the right ones first— The Christians who spreading Bigotry and hate and call for the brim and stone and fire. They calling for it not the rest of us!!

As a learned man once said “the problem with the education system on these islands, is that is better prepares its children for the next life, rather than the current one”

That sums the current Minister for Education up, pretty well, in my books.

    • Anonymous says:

The Minister of Education should be asking for forgiveness for misappropriation of government equipment to pave her constituents driveways in the run up to an election, or indeed address the issue of taking partners for a free ride on government funded trips and the myriad of bigotry and hate speeches she masks as christian values.

Missed the point, she is entitled to her opinion whether you agree with it or not. XXXX

    • Anonymous says:

      She is a politician smartass

    • Anonymous says:

You are mistaken. As an MLA she’s supposed to be the representative of the people, and therefore should put her own views to the side, and promote only those views of her constituents; or better still, only those views of everyone in the Cayman Islands whether they voted for her or not.

Anyhow I thought Christians should practice tolerance. Her personal views are the opposite.

      • Anonymous says:

I’d hazard a guess that the vast majority of her constituents are in agreement with her unfortunately.

    • Anonymous says:

fine- but she shouldn’t publicly display this bigotry when she’s in a political position that involves our children! Do you not think her opinion offends any of the gay children that go to school here? Shame on her! She should spend this much effort on her JOB!!

And in related news the people of Cayman call for prayer to get rid of the uneducated closed minded Minister of Education. But only because nothing else will work as ignorant Brac voters just keep voting her back in!

No one else runs. Please can we have some intelligent new blood?
And we are definitely not talking Jonathan!

  5. Jtb says:

Can we have a prayer for the 40% of Caymanian children who leave government schools functionally illiterate?

  6. Sin -ic says:

This is a deliberate ploy by the Minister to ensure the continued votes from her devotees in the upcoming election.

Nice verse from the bible relating to judgment of others.

    Romans 14:1-13
1 Accept the one whose faith is weak, without quarreling over disputable matters. 2 One person’s faith allows them to eat anything, but another, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. 3 The one who eats everything must not treat with contempt the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does, for God has accepted them. 4 Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To their own master, servants stand or fall. And they will stand, for the Lord is able to make them stand. 5 One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind. 6 Whoever regards one day as special does so to the Lord. Whoever eats meat does so to the Lord, for they give thanks to God; and whoever abstains does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God. 7 For none of us lives for ourselves alone, and none of us dies for ourselves alone. 8 If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. 9 For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living. 10 You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister ? Or why do you treat them with contempt? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. 11 It is written: “ ‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.’ ” 12 So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God. 13 Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister.

I don’t understand, why so much anger towards a person who is just expressing how she feels. She is entitled to it. She is living her beliefs and following through, so why take shots at her? Because it offends you? Guess what, I don’t think she cares, and she’s in that position, and you not.

    • Anonymous says:

Because she’s meant to uphold her own laws and educate children not to be bigots.
She works for ALL of the people on these Cayman Islands, not just a group of intolerant and backward looking fools who place their trust in an imaginary friend.
Pray to whatever you please, but do your constitutional duty first.

You are way too far from possibly understanding what exactly is wrong here. So don’t bother.

There are people who don’t have a high opinion of negroes too.

She gets to express her opinion about others, but nobody else gets to express their opinion of her?

No, that’s not how it works.

Today is a sad day for our nation and what is most frightening is the mockery for our creator displaced on this sight. Remember not too long ago in the days of Noah this exact blaspheming to took place and he had only witness to them for 40 years. Jesus loves you, I love you but we hate your sin. Repent

  10. Anonymous says:

Most kids from public school can tell you all about god and jesus, but they cant count to ten.

That is the trick of religion; keeping people uneducated.

    • Anonymous says:

Right… you got to the very core of it. Why think if someone can think for you, tell you what to do,what not,how much to donate and intimidate you with hell so much that you start feeling afraid to even attempt to think for yourself.

Exactly. Knowledge from the slavers. That needs to go back to Rome.

Well it’s Saturday and the island didn’t sink, the plagues of Egypt aren’t upon us and as far as I see no one has turned to stone.

I guess that means God doesn’t mind, didn’t care or wasn’t listening XXXX

  12. Anonymous says:

This is interesting, since the law passed that only seems to leave two options:
    a) God doesn’t hate gay people after all.
    b) God doesn’t exist.

I wonder which one it could be…

  13. Dan says:

Wow, the fact that person is in charge of education on this island is very scary. The person in her role should be someone who loves to learn, who reads books incessantly, who integrates herself in other ways of thinking, in order to expand her mind.

From her statement on this issue, people like her are the problem with these beautiful islands. XXXX

  14. Harry and Paul says:

Ruddy hell. How can we tell? Let’s just put them all down as probables.

I’m sure the openly gay members of her own family are so proud to be part of her family….not. This woman shouldn’t be in charge of herself never mind the education system

Just think how much better society would be if our MLAs spent as much time on things such as the dump, education, health insurance, community policing etc…

    • Anonymous says:

To be honest, given the level of intellect and competence on display so far (JuJu, JonJon, Moses and Joeywho for a start), we may be better off with the righteous ones not actually doing anything to make matters even worse. How pathetic is it to even think of that as a positive!

  17. Anonymous says:

And we wonder why we spend more than every single country on earth (except Luxembourg) on education per pupil and yet have the educational attainment of the very worst…

    • Anon says:

10.00pm At least Covid has helped reduce the spending. For the moment no more business class flights, luxury hotels feast allowances etc., now that the grandees are grounded.

      • Anonymous says:

you wish. How much did they pay for bio buttons, tracking devices, covid tests, embroidered masks, mechanical ventilator etc.

She won’t get my vote. I’ll vote for the devil over her. She needs to shut her stupid mouth and pay attention to our children. We just had a young lady die of cancer. What are they doing about that? Why aren’t there studies about all of these cancer patients? People are dying right left and center from cancer in Cayman Brac. How can so many people have cancer? Where is the so called lap tops for our children?

  18. Wayne West says:

Congratulations to the minister for standing for truth. Truth is hateful to the people of the Lie.
The universe is created. It did not make itself from nothing. It was created with design and purpose by God and that design and purpose is evident to all but those who live the lie and suppress the truth.

    Congratulations again, minister.

    • Dan says:

Can you remind me again how God was created? Did he come out of thin air? Also, why is Jesus always created in the image of the nation that worships him? For example, Jesus appears to be white in many parts of North America and Europe. Also does Jesus have wisdom teeth? With time, less and less humans have wisdom teeth so I am a bit confused by this evolutionary process if there is no such thing as evolution. Also, how did dinosaurs pre-date God?

      • Anonymous says:

Blatant contradictions go in the “mysterious ways” file. And if you are tempted to raise your eyebrows about any of those you will be reminded that “faith” is the most valued thing in religion. Faith means not changing your mind even in the face of overwhelming evidence.

Remember they have been doing this for thousands of years. They are black belts in mental judo. Or brainwashing if you want to call it that.

Or if you look at the human brain as a type of computer, religion is a virus that deliberately overwrites the executive functions that are capable of removing it.

That’s why there really isn’t any point arguing with a true believer, like a member of the Taliban or ISIS or some of the “Christian” posters on this thread. They have essentially lost their capacity to reason and, with it, their humanity. If anything we should offer them sympathy.

      • Anonymous says:

        Dan
Tell us more about your religious disbelief. Does it need to be sitting on the tip of your nose or smack you in the face with a heavy hand in order for you to have purposeful questions. I’m curious.
Wisdom teeth?? Interesting. I guess we have a tail bone too. Who knows.
How about all those in science suggestIng most humans only use 10% of their brains. Did we have access to the other 90% once?

    • Anonymous says:

      “…for standing for truth”???

She is standing for what she believes in. That is respectable. But is it truth? Truth, even scientific doesn’t exist. Everything is about opinion and how you feel about something based on your beliefs.

✔️ The auditor general revealed in his report that Ms. O’Connor-Connolly somehow managed to spend $34,000 in hotel charges on Cayman Brac, ❌ where she lives and has a home. He also raised questions (and eyebrows) when he referred to Ms. O’Connor-Connolly’s now infamous trip to Qatar, entourage in tow, to attend a postal conference..

And yet, to date [January 22, 2015], neither Ms. O’Connor-Connolly nor her chief officer Kearney Gomez has been called before Mr. McTaggart’s committee to explain these expenditures.

✔️ Ms. O’Connor-Connolly deserves an opportunity to respond openly and fully.

✔️ to Mr. McTaggart: Why are you not inviting Ms. O’Connor-Connolly to come before your committee[The Public Accounts Committee]so a thorough — and public — inquiry into these outstanding issues can take place?

WHY Ms. O’Connor-Connolly didn’t take the opportunity to respond openly and fully?

          Hon. Juliana:
Stay tough. You are not only entitled to your opinions and rights of free speech but you are following the Bible.
          God is not mocked.
Anita Bryant was mocked and put down too for her choices in speaking out. Carry the torch. Why do people not understand that you have every right to your thinking and your right of free speech.

          • Anonymous says:

Thank your God you are not LGBTQ, for all I understand. You would be singing a whole different song. Freedom of speech implies responsibility for what is said. Homophobia put in words is designed to hurt. There is zero justification for that. Believe whatever you want but be mindful what you say or do. Easy.

          • Al Catraz says:

            So do racists.

Why do you not believe other people have a right to express their opinion of her hateful beliefs?
