Minister Juliana O’Connor-Connolly in the LA during the DPB debate

(CNS): The education minister issued a voice message to a pastoral group on Friday, asking them to “petition heaven” and pray for the people, including the governor, who are supporting the Domestic Partnership Law, describing it as “this evil that is being forced upon us”. Juliana O’Connor-Connolly said she expected the legislation would be implemented today (Friday), creating “a seismic shift in our Christian heritage”.

The education minister has been a fervent opponent of the Domestic Partnership Bill and any legislation that supports same-sex couples’ right to a private life. She was one of two Cabinet ministers who voted against the legislation brought by government in July to address the longstanding breach by the authorities here of Cayman’s Bill of Rights and the European Convention on Human Rights.

O’Connor-Connolly’s opposition, along with that of Health Minister Dwayne Seymour, ensured the defeat of the bill, which led to Governor Martyn Roper to announce that, at the direction of the UK, he will be using his reserved powers to pass the bill.

CNS has contacted the Governor’s Office to find out when the bill, which is expected to be a slightly revised, will be implemented and for comment on the minister’s allegations that the governor is forcing evil on the Cayman Islands, and we are awaiting a response.

    Minister O’Connor,
Surely you see that frumpy old bible-thumping style of politics is now officially defunct. The new voters will not buy it and the seasoned ones now see it for what it is: antiquated rhetoric fit for the last century. I invite Cayman Brac young professionals to vie for that seat.

She is one of the most hateful, angry people I’ve ever met – hate and anger are just oozing from her pores. One wonders what caused it. A deeply unhappy, sad soul who will never find happiness.

If the Cayman Islands had to truly depend on the prayers of the hypocrites we have in the LA and in our wider community, we would have been doomed forever on any matter whatever they be. Prayers from the likes of such people “do not go higher than the ceilings of their places of worship and their homes.”

    Amen to that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you understand now why our education system is in such bad shape and Caymanian children are being left behind? Leadership starts at the top. 11. Ms guliann o connor is only trying to make a point of putting ourselves in any deeper wrath than what are already in with the lord our god in this country.you all hate her because of the belief and the truth she stands up for .and I pray with her that this stupid law change of gay marriage will not have success in this country.because if it passes by this governor so god help us all .don’t give up ms connally and may god bless you .

Only after anti corruption committee finally completes investigation for potential “breach of trust” by Julianna O’Connor-Connolly.

✅ over her direction to purchase a plot of land in her constituency…
She directed the purchase of property in an undeveloped subdivision valued at $125,000 with unspent funds at the end of the year. Although a Cabinet paper points to the acquisition benefit for affordable housing, the property was never vested with the Sister Islands Affordable Housing initiative and there is no evidence the agency was consulted about the purchase.

Involvement of ministers in government operations is contrary to the Cayman Islands governance framework.

✅ over a house by the fire station which was purchased from the owner in 2012 for considerably more than its market value at the direction of O’Connor-Connolly after the owner complained of noise and fumes from the fire station. The property transfer has still not been properly completed and the building remains unused.

✅ over the paving of private roads on the Brac with public money, revealed by the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) in an April 2012 report, Road Paving Expenditure in the Brac. “However, although Swarbrick highlighted the fact that the paving was unlawful, there were no consequences for O’Connor-Connolly, who was minister of district administration at the time.”

      ✅ over Exorbitant travel expenses.
      Qatar trip.
Then-Deputy Premier Juliana O’Connor-Connolly and her executive aide Paul Leonce took several days to stay in New York City hotel rooms on their way to and from Qatar.
…Ms. O’Connor-Connolly charged US$12,914.38 to her government-issued credit card on July 23, 2012, for two roundtrip airline tickets from New York to Qatar for herself and an executive aide. On Sept. 19, 2012, a website called TSP Hotelplanner.com was paid US$2,387.64 for Ms. O’Connor-Connolly and her executive aide to stay in two New York hotel rooms prior to traveling to the postal congress in Doha. Two other charges totaling almost US$2,800 went to Hyatt hotels in New York for two rooms on the return trip from Doha. Ms. O’Connor-Connolly and her aide spent US$891 per night in Qatar for their eight-day hotel stay.

✅ Over Ms.O’Connor-Connolly Executive aide expenditures
On Jan. 17, 2011, US$4,241.38…accreditations for Cayman delegation to attending meeting in Barcelona accompanied by Mr. Kearney Gomez, [West Bay MLA] Cline Glidden and executive aide. Other charges to the credit card for the conference include US$801.59 for the conference registration and two charges of US$630.59 apiece for reservations for two hotel rooms for Ms. O’Connor-Connolly and her executive aide at the Hotel Melia Barcelona.

An Oct. 20, 2009, credit card charge at the Ritz-Carlton, St. James in Jamaica for separate room charges for attendance at the Caribbean Renewable Energy forum. Room charges totaled approximately US$1,250 for Ms. O’Connor-Connolly, her personal assistant, Mr. Glidden and civil servant Tristan Hydes.

A Nov. 13, 2009, charge to the deputy premier’s credit card had reservations at three rooms at the Cuisinart Resort and Spa in Anguilla for US$490 apiece to attend pre-meetings of the overseas territories conference. This included rooms for Ms. O’Connor-Connolly, her personal assistant and the Cabinet secretary.

On Dec. 14, 2009, Ms. O’Connor-Connolly’s credit card was charged US$4,804.85 for rooms at the Goring Hotel in London to attend the annual overseas territories council meeting. The then-deputy premier, the Cabinet secretary and Ms. O’Connor-Connolly’s personal assistant attended.

On June 10, 2010, the government credit card was charged US$2,210.49 at the ACCRA Beach Hotel in Christ Church, Barbados, for attendance at the 9th Commonwealth Women’s Affairs Ministers meeting. Ms. O’Connor-Connolly, her executive aide and a senior policy adviser attended.

On July 1, 2010, the former deputy premier’s credit card was charged a total of US$894 for hotel rooms while she attended another Caribbean Renewable Energy forum, this time in the Bahamas. In addition to Ms. O’Connor-Connolly, her executive aide, Mr. Glidden and Mr. Hydes also attended.

Credit card statements for the former deputy premier also reveal dozens of hotel charges for Ms. O’Connor-Connolly’s executive aide to stay in Cayman Brac between 2009 and 2012.

❌ A review by the auditor general’s office of all these charges revealed that nearly CI$34,000 was spent in hotel accommodations for the executive aide to stay in Cayman Brac during those three years, meaning the aide would have stayed in the Brac for weeks at a time – potentially months out of each year.

If she is cleared by the committee off wrongdoings, 2:27pm could repost her blessings

  20. On Truth and Darkness

    Isa 60:1-3
1 Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.
2 For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.
3 And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.

One of the saddest observations of today’s world, is the haste to turn off the light of God’s word and to call the resulting darkness light.
The darkness in which this world exists seems to be “grosser” than the one of which Isaiah spoke. Our Lord Jesus came to this world bringing light where there was darkness. Today, however, so many seem to be trying desperately to obscure that light and to grovel instead in the pit of darkness. In our quest to free ourselves from the “shackles” of Christianity we have now voluntarily submitted to the chains of evil where truth has been concealed in the thickness of the darkness we have created.
How can we clean things up?

Jesus gave the answer: Joh 17:17

17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

It is only when we return to the Word of God that the light of the gospel begins to shine again in our hearts. It is only that light that can again shine in the hearts of our people who have turned so far away from God. We have too many people who have turned away from Jesus and His Word. The atrocities we are witnessing in our country did not appear suddenly, but came about by a gradual, but incessant move away from God.
Let us return to the God who made us and again endeavor to live, not by our desires, but by His design as enunciated in His Word.

Keep the faith, Minister Juliana O’Connor. God is with you. and we are with you as well. May God bless your great effort.

    • Anonymous says:

Why do you need to clean things up? Isn’t God omnipotent? It’s like ants trying to put the dishwasher on. Just leave it to Him and focus on all the hating and closed-mindedness He demands.

The big lie. Cayman’s Christian Heritage. Cayman is no more Christian than any other western nation. Adultery. Children out of wedlock. Crime. Greed. Alcohol. Ganja. Gluttony, lots of gluttony. All rampant here. And be honest most Caymanians don’t even go to church anymore.

Just because you threw in a tag line “He hath founded it upon the seas” on the flag doesn’t make you anymore special than other Christians or for that matter Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist or even Atheists.

So for God’s sake (pun intended) let’s all just get along and live our lives. And stop worrying about everyone else’s.

    • Lomart says:

You are so correct and Cayman is really one big LIE! Nothing is as it seems. Your reference to the tag-line ““He hath founded it upon the seas”, on the Coat of Arms, is a Bible verse from the book of Psalms. I truly believe that it refers to ALL LAND MASS on this earth; not just the Cayman Islands. One big, hypocritical lie! Some need to clean out their own closets; their own ministries before attacking same-gender love.

  22. Anonymous says:

Maybe she should stick to laying tarmac?

  23. Anonymous says:

Maybe if Ju-Ju is sticking to the Scripture she sure would have no issues and abide by these as well…

    Timothy 2:11
“I permit no woman to teach or have authority over men; she is to keep silent.”

…Women, better start keeping quiet! The Big Mac and a few others love this verse.

    Exodus 35:2
“Six days work shall be done, but on the seventh day you shall have a Sabbath of solemn rest, holy to the Lord. Whoever does any work on it shall be put to death.”

… I guess we all should be put to death now. 🙁

    Mark 9:43
“And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched.”

… Why aren’t the Cayman Islands cutting off hands of people?

    Leviticus 25:44-46
As for your male and female slaves whom you may have: you may buy male and female slaves from among the nations that are around you. You may also buy from among the strangers who sojourn with you and their clans that are with you, who have been born in your land, and they may be your property. You may bequeath them to your sons after you to inherit as a possession forever. You may make slaves of them, but over your brothers the people of Israel you shall not rule, one over another ruthlessly.

    … Let’s bring back slavery!

    Deuteronomy 22:28–29
“If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, he shall pay her father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the young woman, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives.”

… Fathers, you must sell and marry off your daughters if they are raped as a virgin, to the rapist.

    Deuteronomy 22:5
“A woman shall not wear a man’s garment, nor shall a man put on a woman’s cloak, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord your God.”

    … say what?

    1 Corinthians 11:6
“For if a wife will not cover her head, then she should cut her hair short. But since it is disgraceful for a wife to cut off her hair or shave her head, let her cover her head.”

… I guess we cannot cut our hair 🙁 Sorry barbers & hair salons, you must now shut down for it is disgraceful to the Lord.

Trillions and trillions of prayers every day asking and begging and pleading for favors. ‘Do this’ ‘Gimme that’ ‘I want a new car’ ‘I want a better job’. And most of this praying takes place on Sunday. And I say fine, pray for anything you want. Pray for anything. But…what about the divine plan? Remember that? The divine plan. Long time ago God made a divine plan. Gave it a lot of thought. Decided it was a good plan. Put it into practice. And for billion and billions of years the divine plan has been doing just fine. Now you come along and pray for something. Well, suppose the thing you want isn’t in God’s divine plan. What do you want him to do? Change his plan? Just for you? Doesn’t it seem a little arrogant? It’s a divine plan. What’s the use of being God if every run-down schmuck with a two dollar prayer book can come along and XXXX up your plan? And here’s something else, another problem you might have; suppose your prayers aren’t answered. What do you say? ‘Well it’s God’s will. God’s will be done.’ Fine, but if it is God’s will and he’s going to do whatever he wants to anyway; why the XXXX bother praying in the first place? Seems like a big waste of time to me. Couldn’t you just skip the praying part and get right to his will? [George Carlin, from “You Are All Diseased”.]

    • BeaumontZodecloun says:

An excellent effort, thank you. However, we can’t apply logic and reason to Scripture, it being based upon faith. Miss Julie et al would like to hang their hats on Leviticus, but the rest of the tenets of Leviticus are obviously ignored, such as eschewing pork.

Are we to believe that Miss Julie doesn’t eat pork?

How about Leviticus 19:33-34? “When a foreigner resides with you in your land, you must not oppress him. You must treat the foreigner living among you as native-born and love him as yourself, for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt. I am the LORD your God.”

What about all the burnt offerings, guilt offerings, peace offerings? Are we really honouring ALL those hallowed words, OR!

Or, are we just cherry-picking the ones that are consistent with our own prejuidice?

I pray for you Miss Julie, that you may see the light, and understand that Jesus wanted us all to live in love and equality. He wanted no one to be oppressed.

So why keep bringing up something that we already agree on as if it’s a sensible counterpoint on the thing we don’t agree on?!!!

She is pissed because she is losing her right as a Caymanian to determine what rights she can give or take from other Caymanians. She is standing tall to make sure everyone can see just what it means to be a “Caymanian” Christian. XXX

What will they do when GOD rejects their prayers?

    • Anonymous says:

God only rejects prayer when the people, in their stubbornness, refuse to listen to Him and are determined to have their own way. Then years later when their country is declining if they still refuse to listen to Him they decline further. Look at America. But if His people who are called by His name will humble themselves and pray He will hear from Heaven and heal their land. When the spiritual downfall comes many posting here will cry out.. maybe then we will remember there is only one God, and He is not mocked, though we try daily.

I’m all for following God’s word, but you can’t pick and choose to suit your current agenda.
I’m certain the same ‘word’ would disapprove the misappropriation of public funds to pave private driveways, enjoy 5 star travel and accommodation, use government credit card in casinos and the list goes on….

I assure you there are many heterosexuals that have anal sex as well. Anal sex between opposite-sex partners happens to be among the most popular porn fetishes. But don’t just take my word for it, check it out for yourselves.

Its a human right to be able to marry. And gays are humans. Hope that offers some clarity to you.
