94 negative COVID-19 tests reported

(CNS): Two weeks after two travellers in quarantine interrupted Cayman’s COVID-free status last month, the country is back on a negative trend. There are no active cases at present and on Wednesday Medical Officer of Health Dr Samuel Williams-Rodriguez reported on 94 COVID-19 tests carried out over the last day, which were all negative. Cayman’s running positive tally remains at 205 after carrying out 35,668 PCR tests.

Cayman is now waiting to see what government has planned ahead of the scheduled border reopening next month.

There has been no further news on the proposed test run for returning residents on the first of a regular fortnightly British Airways service between London and Cayman later this month.

Government is proposing to change the required 14-day quarantine in a government facility and open the borders to property owners or those with close family connections to Cayman. The goal is to require these first visitors to have a negative test before leaving the UK or other location and then to isolate in their homes for around one week. During this time public health officials will monitor their vital signs via a bio-button for signs of infection from COVID-19 and a geo-fencing tag to curtail their movement.

There is still no date set for an update briefing by government to explain the details of the proposed plans and address the mounting concern in the community that, given Cayman’s internal COVID-free status, opening borders to anyone but returning residents and essential workers is too risky.

    Panic much?

Everyone on here blaming Cayman for having no plan for the future enconomy are retards.

Let me tell you what the plan is right now,

DON’T DO WHATEVER THE HELL US, UK, BRAZIL, HELL PRETTY MUCH WHAT THE REST OF THE WORLD IS DOING SEEING AS HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAVE DIED THIS YEAR ALONE IN THESE PLACES DO TO IDIOTS LIKE YOURSELF BEING IN CHARGE.

The ravishing deaths in Florida represent 70% of 2019 Florida automobile deaths. I’ve never heard Florida is being ravished by automobile deaths, even by persons like you who shout utter nonsense. Learn some math.

6.38am It seems a side effect of Covid in Cayman is to produce raging capitalistic (letter form, that is) rhetoric. Please calm down, there are much more sensible ways of expressing your concerns.

Nobody here, on Big Land, pays no or very little attention to COVID news anymore. Mass hysteria has died down. Homeless and people living mostly outdoors have avoided the pandemic. 50%of deaths happened in assisted living facilities. I think it is because they were previously vaccinated against flu. Thousands died in March due to improper treatments. When they stopped sedating and ventilating number of deaths reduced dramatically. Then they discovered that majority already immune to the virus, even before the pandemic.

So 6:38, you are suffering from rock fever. Get help.

With only a 100 people per flight that’s 300 people returning.
Quite easily, residents, work permit holders, partners and parents of students.
Typical head in the sand anti rhetoric, tell your plan to revive an island going bankrupt.

    • Ex Frequent Flyer says:

Tundi, are you saying that BA are only accepting 100 passengers on each flight (social distancing)?. I was not aware of that, no wonder they were booked up so quickly.

The problem is still the lack of sufficient quarantine facilities in Cayman.

The problem is not the lack of sufficient quarantine facilities in in Cayman. The problem is that there are quarantine facilities.

          • Anonymous says:

It should be home isolation as from the next scheduled BA flight as the first trial and moving on from there.
Has anyone thought for the hotels to open they must need hundreds of returning staff how is this going to be achieved

        • Anonymous says:

The problem is lack of correct information. When you call BA they clearly say the repatriation flights needs to be booked by Cayman Government. Governor says call BA direct. I notice that once certain persons made it back to Cayman the air bridge setup fall by the wayside🤔

          The problem is nepotism.

    And still no plan

      Whats your plan idiot?

Pre test, test on arrival, test on day 7 and 14.
Home isolation from arrival to day 7 negative test.
Geofencing within tracking brackets to isolation.
And open up for a 1 month soft opening to test before using residents and home owners.

There you go Idiot not that hard….others have done it!

6.52am Please do not descend to the level of so many contributors , calling people idiots. As far as I’m aware nobody has been geo fenced here and you fail to mention the Bio-Button.

14 days quarantine in govt facility or at home with ankle tag. For any breach, mandatory 50k fine and deportation for non-nationals with re-entry ban for 10 years.

        Bio-button is simply gibberish.

Sir Turtle needs to be brought back. What better symbol than a turtle to represent our government. Swim fast – lock down. On land s- slow to move. Now their heads are hidden in their shells.

5.53pm It seems it has not occurred to you that if all the outbound flights are full (which they are), that most are indeed residents returning after a visit to the U.K.I am one of them.

Lots of new permits granted for accountants/legal professional that should have started work here March/April now coming (South African/Europeans/Australians) all coming via BA.

  7. Might as well open the border says:

Well all the BA flights to Cayman are full until November. Travel Time, are these people ALL returning residents and essential workers? Seems suspicious to me that these [returning residents and essential workers] people just decided to all come in one go. I doubt they’re all returning residents and essential workers!

    • Anonymous says:

How about people resident in Cayman going to UK and then coming back on the return flight? I’ve considered doing it just to stretch my legs but since the flights are already sold out I guess I’m stuck here

      • Anonymous says:

The Miami shopping flights and summer vacations have been happening for months. If you know the right people you can get home isolation when you come back too.
