(CNS): The Cayman Islands has now gone more than six weeks without a positive case of coronavirus and has had no active cases for almost five weeks, having cleared another weekend with no new cases. On Monday Chief Medical Officer Dr John Lee reported that 680 tests had been carried out since Friday and all of them were negative. Cayman has carried out a total 33,148 tests and officials are increasingly confident that the country is virus free.

There are 182 people in isolation, either at a government facility or in their homes, as required by the medical officer of health, as the government maintains its strict 14 day mandatory quarantine for everyone who has returned to the islands during the official border closure.

Government has rescheduled a soft reopening of the borders on 1 October but officials still believe that, even if the date is not deferred again, there will only be a limited number of arrivals who will mostly be property owners and friends and family of residents.

Government has still not firmed up the details of the use of the bio-button technology, a device that combines health monitoring and geo-fencing, to reduce the length of isolation time of new arrivals, thereby facilitating a gradual return of the islands’ lost tourism trade.

This notion that you can keep corona out. Is silly. that’s like saying you can keep people from getting the cold here, or the flu. it’s impossible. Period.

At some point they will need to let people in. They need to reitroduce flights. then 3 months later cruise ships. By this time, we should have introduced corona slowly enough into the population. Because I will say this. corona is not going away. Period. It’s going to come back every year. If you didn’t get it this year, your going to get it next year or the next year after. So, enough with the fear mongering. “lasting effects” so does pneumonia, can have lasting phyisical effects on SOME people. enough wih the fear mongerings. Personally. I want to get the damn thing, so one way or another. I get it over with.

I feel so terrible for all kids to have to have on a mask for such a long period in the day.
my child has ashma and I will not allow anyone to demand her to wear a mask if she is having difficulty breathing with them so somebody in government better find another solution for this mask issue

It would be interesting to know how many of the non-frontline population are being tested.

Honestly, please stay home if you willingly pay so little attention to the world around you. You honestly think Alden is scooping up people off the streets that look Covid-y?

I’m guessing that the 182 people are in isolation as there is a strong possibility that they could have Covid. If government wasn’t concerned, they wouldn’t be there. I’d continue to wear a mask and social distance.

Sigh. It’s because they came in on a flight. And went straight into quarantine. Has nothing to do with community transmission.

Actually, based on statistics, there is little to no possibility that they have it. But lets ignore that fact and continue to hold persons against their will. So civilized. This truly is the North Korea of the Caribbean.

That statistics say that, of those quarantined, about 2% will test positive at the end of the 14 days. This is based on historical data of those in quarantine which is readily available by reading the CMOs updates.

They knew that would need to quarantine at a government facility for at least 14 days and chose to arrive in Cayman anyway.

If this were the North Korea of the Caribbean, people who spread misinformation like this would be disappeared with enthusiasm. Unfortunately, you’ll be around to sputter your nonsense again.

Apparently no one on this thread believes your 2%. Why is that? I’m seeing 1% and less than. You do know what the word “fact” means? Let’s keep locking up 99 or 100 out of 100 perfectly healthy people. Makes sense on every level, doesn’t it?

      REALY??

They came in on a flight and like the last flight probably have not one case among them.

      STOP YOUR FEAR MUNGING!

There is less than a 1% chance anyone that came in on a flight has it!

Over 400 retuning since 1July and only one positive case – much less than 1% – look at actual data to understand the risk (not what you thought would or should have happened) and quarantine at home!

My friend. 8:59 is not scare mongering. The person genuinely believes the BS Alden is feeding us. Cayman will not process until people are trusted to isolate in their homes.

If you are not worried about people coming in on flights, then open your borders and let flights from the US, Canada, and the UK come in. There is only a 1% chance people on a plane will have it, so what is the big whoop.

  9. Say it like it is says:

More than half the population has never been tested so how can we claim the country is virus free?. Stop testing the same people repeatedly and start testing all those who have never been tested.
How many other countries are using this so called “bio-button?.

Why would testing those who don’t interact with the wider population be of any use? If those who are in contact with the wider community on a daily basis are negative, wouldn’t you infer that the wider community is also likely to be negative?

If you don’t like what’s happening around you, stay in your home.

So let me get this straight. Government is going to use bio-buttons to monitor persons on the loose but can’t use bracelets to monitor persons in their homes? Do people forget we released actual prisoners only to imprison innocent people, put in place road-blocks, curfews, 24/7 helicopter, built field hospitals, treated essential workers as non-essential human beings so they could sell and deliver food to the upper class. And please do not give me any crap about this is why Cayman has done well. Other islands did not do these things and have done equally well, if not better. Even parts of the U.S. have done well. In fact 43% of all counties (8% of the population) have no more than one death – Just like us. Cayman benefits from, a sparse population. A healthy population. Half do a medical before being allowed in. Cayman has made a fool of itself, and continues to do, by basing its actions off of what happened in New York City.

The ones under 24/7 police and security surveillance. Not allowed to leave their rooms when then they have houses they can quarantine in. These persons are not in these facilities by choice. They are not ill. Why does Cayman have such a pathetic human rights record? In this case, we can’t even trust our own people. Shameful!

“Coronavirus hasn’t devastated the homeless as many feared.”
    Why?
The homeless live an outdoor life sunrise to sunset, constantly grounded, and exposed to every known pathogen. They have a robust innate immunity that most indoor people can’t achieve! And they have smoked C19. There is a lesson here and most conventional docs will never get it.

Government quarantine facilities MUST END NOW. The purpose of these are for when travelers also have elderly or persons with underlying illnesses living at their homes. Travelers quarantine BY CHOICE in government facilities to protect their loved ones. For those who insist the barbaric forced quarantine, complete with police and security, persons being held against their will, are the way to go, please explain why we’ve had zero cases for several weeks despite more and more persons being flow in and facilities at capacity. What is the actual basis for not allowing persons to quarantine in their homes? It’s not death! It’s not science! It’s not positive tests! It’s not statistics! What is it? Fear? Ignorance?
