Armed man fires shots at gas station

(CNS): Police are on the hunt for an armed man after an attempted robbery at the Rubis gas station in East End on Tuesday evening. The man burst into the store wearing a dark coloured hoody and a black mask, brandishing a handgun, and demanded cash. He fired the gun into the ceiling of the store, but then made off without taking any cash or other items.

The would-be stick-up took place shortly before 8pm on 11 August. After leaving empty handed, the suspect was seen running along Sea View Road heading east towards Austin Connolly Drive.

No one was injured as a result of the shot being fired.

The police have not yet confirmed or denied reports of a second attempted armed robbery at a store in Bodden Town shortly after the gas station heist. CNS is awaiting a response.

The crime is now under investigation by detectives from Bodden Town Police Station who are appealing to anyone with information to call them on 947-2220.

When people say the youth of today don’t aim high enough, I see this as proof to refute that. This guy literally aimed for the stars, and hit the ceiling with a bullet.

Disclaimer: yes, I know it doesn’t say he’s young, but not many people above 25yr old would be this dumb.

Gee…… I wish I could get $155,000 per year for sitting on my butt. Plus the other perks, of course. If I thought the elective system was honest I would run for a government position!

This is what happens when good paying jobs aren’t offered to Caymanians first.

All Caymanians need is a college degree and they will bump any expat… regardless of the expat having more experience. Stop the whining and find a better excuse for thug behavior. When people constantly blame others, the world leaves them behind. Loser

Thank you. I cried many nights after spending 8 hours on campus and 6 in the books at home hoping to maintain my GPA at a 3.0 for the scholarship. Glad to have been the applicant of choice for my post where I can serve my people.

Your first para was heart warming. Unfortunately the second one destroyed that. Really? Your issue is that without Ganga you can’t handle the stress of your job? And it’s the laws fault that it’s illegal, rather than your ability to manage the stress of your job without a mood altering drug? Congrats in grinding to get your qualifications but you may want to have a word with yourself about your dependence on a substance to wt through day to day existence.

Ok, I see you there Mr I need 3 cups of coffee to function at work.

If caffeine is your drug of choice that helped you function, why beat me up for one that cured my suicidal thoughts?

It really isn’t a shame, Andi. For living a successful life I recommend staying off drugs……. all drugs! If you live as long as I have you will see.

Hahaha, yeah that’s what it is.

I remember not getting my first good paying job. In response, I trained, got qualified, did more exams and worked part time as well during that period. Then, obviously I terrified an old lady in a small retail establishment by discharging a firearm in front of her, whilst simultaneously not stealing anything and risking 10 to 15 years in prison.

Yeah. It’s definitely because this guy got rejected for a good paying job based on where he was born, and not at all because it’s amateur hour for some wannabe gangster who wants some easy cash, and somehow figures that is best achieved by hitting up a local business, midweek.

He seems to have been inexperienced and probably was to scared to complete the job.

This is a serious situation and we need to recognize that these types of crimes are not good for Cayman or the image that we are trying to present to the world.

A few thoughts:- Trade school, job opportunities, proper parenting and community guidance.
Where are the expensive CCTVs? Haven’t heard that any crime was solved through the use of such.

From EE Primary to that gas station is one of the worst place to drive on this island, no form of discipline from parking in the road to drinking and smoking weed in the road it’s a disgrace.
