(CNS): The two travellers who had tested positive for COVID-19 almost two weeks ago are still in the government’s isolation facility, officials said Monday. While there were no new cases as the week started, after 274 coronavirus tests carried out since Friday were all negative, the two asymptomatic patients who arrived in Cayman in the first week of August have still not been given the all clear.

Public health officials have previously refused to say where the travellers had arrived from ever since they tested positive on 19 August after two weeks in quarantine. The COVID-positive people and those travelling with them have remained in isolation and the protocol is that positive individuals require two negative tests before they can be declared recovered.

The two patients remain the only confirmed active cases in the Cayman Islands at present and they are in quarantine alongside another 260 people. There has been no community transmission here since 11 July. The positive tally since testing began remains at 205 after 35,469 tests have been processed.

Healthcare professionals are confident that the virus is no longer present in the community but they still want people to be tested. From today, 31 August, the Health Services Authority has relocated the COVID-19 testing clinic from the General Practice Building back to its previous location in the old Physiotherapy Department on the side of the hospital facing the Seventh Day Adventist Church, to the far left of A&E.

The new location is a dedicated space for people being tested and has additional indoor seating, providing a better patient experience.

Testing is by appointment only and must be made at least two business days in advance. Appointment times are currently available between 7:30am  – 8:20am Monday – Friday.

Just curious if these persons were allowed in under the BioButton system, would they have been identified as positive? That is,would the system have worked to keep the Cayman community safe? Or would we possibly have gotten a spike and increased cases – those two positive cases entering the border possibly resulted in multiple cases?

Please ignore the bio-button fallacy. There will be no flights to Cayman in October, except for private planes. Instead there will be repatriation flights. Government is looking at April of 2021 before doing anything different. The good news, Cayman is virus free and will likely remain so given the stringent quarantine facilities. It’s a real life Gilligan’s Island. Except for those with private jets.

They would have pre tested THEN isolated for 8 days and tested again so the test would have picked it up on of the time. What everyone should remember is that IF the pre test picked it up they would have NERVER got to the island.

Under the current system there is nothing stoping a person who tests positive and is asymptomatic getting on a plane and coming home.

CNS: The site you linked is full of very crazy conspiracy theories, and some dangerously so. It doesn’t actually say it’s QAnon but it shares the same BS, including the nonsense about an elite pedophile ring in the US State Department which was covered up by Hillary Clinton, i.e. Pizzagate. This is crazy crazy stuff. Did I mention it was crazy? QAnon’s latest conspiracy theory is that covid is just one big global coverup, that the US, Russia, China, Europe, Australia and every other country in the world all got together and then agreed to plan a global cover up. There is more chance of fairies living at the bottom of my garden than that. Please, please reconsider your source and think before you share.

Even mass media has reported already that asymptomatic individuals pose very little risk of transmitting. Viral load is too low to cause any danger to others or to the positive individual.

    • Anonymous says:

We don’t know what the viral load of an asymptomatic carrier is. By its nature, this virus hijacks healthy cells to replicate viral particles with no outward symptoms to the host, and even while that cell continues to do its normal job. That’s actually the entire biological crux of the mechanism of transfer that the planet is wrestling with for the last 6 months. Fever and cough assumptions are completely unsuited to this virus.

As a person that was asymptomatic living in an extremely tight confined space with 6 people and with no precautions taken NO ONE caught it from me. This is FACT, so I would tend to agree that automatic people with low viral load struggle to infect others and there is a large over reaction. Also the CDC states people who have been confirmed to have had COVID should not be re tested via PCR for 90 days unless they have symptoms.

    • Anonymous says:

That was debunked long ago. Try to keep up.

Why the secrecy as to their origin, the 260 people who travelled with them and are still in quarantine will certainly not be keeping their mouths shut.

    • Anonymous says:

Because the government and paranoids like it that way.

@9:29 pm take a scroll through older threads and you might find your answer 🤓

Maybe they aren’t from this planet. The truth is out there.

      a) Privacy
      b) Not all 260 people are from the same flight.
      c) What does it matter? Anywhere they were coming from, short of cayman Brac, has COVID (or they travelled through airports with COVID if they came from New Zealand) so its not exactly news that someone from a COVID location had COVID. Therefore, since its a non-issue (a) privacy trumps (c) our desire to know non-pertinent information.

Keep closed! We have worked so hard to get to where we are. Please, just be patient a little longer and the virus will either burn out or we will get a vaccine. Please do not allow any self quarantine or bio button bull. Look at Islands that opened. Is it really worth it to send our kids home to not learn? Let’s just be responsible, and stay closed. Please!

Do you personally have to work for a living?

      • Annie says:

Yes , I am the manager of a small business. I have worked 70 hours a week since March to save this business, and keep all our employees. I have succeeded. No one lost their job, and everyone got paid during quarantine.

BUT We cannot survive another lock down. It is not possible. We have used our hurricane contingency for Covid. We used to cultivate cruisers, but have completely shifted our product lines to locals. And we can sustain on said. But only if we are open. If we have to shut down again so some rich people can be a benefit to a few entitled persons we are toast.

    • Anonymous says:

Wishful thinking. A “little longer” isn’t going to do it. It will still be out there whenever you open and a vaccine may never happen.

    • Anonymous says:

Burn out?? What globally that will never happen . A vaccine could be years away one that works well enough to eradicate the virus and that may not happen.

We must make a compromising plan to open up now!

Agreed. Jamaica just recorded 245 cases in one day…these are worrying times. Reports are coming in that tourists who are going there for vacation are not complying with the rules and regulations.

Honestly, as quickly as this virus came. I hope it departs 😒

      • Anonymous says:

Its more like locals are not complying……From what I am seeing in an other island it is the locals and the tourists are 100% compliant and the government has made that clear.
