Over 400 more negative COVID-19 tests

| 10/07/2020 | 65 Comments

(CNS): Cayman passed its ninth day on Friday since last recording a positive case of COVID-19. Dr Samuel Williams-Rodriguez, the medical officer of health, reported that 437 tests carried out over the previous 24 hours were all negative. Cayman has now processed 26,117 tests to date with a positive tally since March of 201. There are still just three active cases of the virus among individuals who are all asymptomatic.

Health workers have carried out 2,108 test since the last positive case was reported on 1 July.

But the Public Health Department is keen to keep up the testing programme and is urging people to make appointments, as it is a strong testing regime that has enabled officials to rolling back all but the most basic COVID-19 prevention measures.

The department is continuing a second cycle of re-screening front-line workers and others who have recently returned, and testing has also been opened to the public. At this time, anyone who wishes to be tested can register for an appointment with the Health Services Authority (HSA).

Although the numbers of test results returning positive for COVID-19 has dropped in the past few weeks, there is no room for complacency, Dr Williams-Rodriguez said. Regular testing of front-line and other workers, every four weeks or so, is the only way to determine to what extent the virus has been controlled locally, therefore testing measures will be ongoing, he added in a release about the current screening programme.

With a global resurgence of the disease in other countries that have re-opened, he said it was routine screening that helps at-risk people to protect family and friends, as well as keeping the reopening of the economy on track. Front-line staff working with the general public should be tested regularly, he said.

Anyone experiencing flu-like symptoms or who believes they may have been exposed to the virus is asked to self-register for testing.

The public can register for screening using the form available on the bottom left of government’s coronavirus website.

Organisations that want to schedule on-site screening for employees should contact Covidscreening@hsa.ky.

With all the negative test results in Cayman, more people start seeking the borders to be reopened. I hope government are not pressured into doing this by the tourism or real estate industry. There is simply no way around letting people in without quarantine. all we are hearing now is dr Lee’s magic device will solve quarantine by telling people if they’re hot. News flash – it’s 100 degrees here, we’re all hot.
If government are pressured to reopen due to hotel owners or whatever, we’ll have made it easy for all the hard work to count for nothing.
    quarantine..quarantine..quarantine.
there is no other way at present. it sucks. But this is the world we have right now.
2nd home owners/long stay residents of course come back but they must quarantine whether they have a magic magnet thermometer or not. taking a test 2 days before you fly means nothing.

A 30-year-old patient died after attending a “Covid party”, believing the virus to be a hoax, a Texas medical official has said.

“Just before the patient died, they looked at their nurse and said ‘I think I made a mistake, I thought this was a hoax, but it’s not,’” said Dr Jane Appleby, the chief medical officer at Methodist hospital in San Antonio.

After reading BBC piece on face masks being a new source of marine pollution I became really depressed.

Social distancing and working from home are talking its toll on mental state of many people. We are social beings, isolation will destroy us in the long tun. But after seeing how “saving” ourselves from the virus we destroy other species, may be extinction of so called “humans” is not such a bad thing?

Are humans that destructive by a grand design? But then there are people like me who never ever dropped a smallest piece of trash on the ground. There’s Boyan Slut who is literally this planet’s hero who is working on saving the earth from marine pollution. How often do you hear about him? How many are supporting him? Yet millions “follow” the useless and mentally deviated influencers and bloggers.

Who wants to live in such a world?

Covid-19 can result in several extrapulmonary manifestations. Those conditions include thrombotic complications, myocardial dysfunction and arrhythmia, acute coronary syndromes, acute kidney injury, gastrointestinal symptoms, hepatocellular injury, hyperglycemia and ketosis, neurologic illnesses, ocular symptoms, and dermatologic complications. Strokes were initially not counted as a part of the early mortality figures, and not thoroughly quantified in the recovered counts, but it is increasingly recognized as a blood virus potentially impacting the entire vasculature. It doesn’t necessarily go away in clinically recovered cases, it may just recede into the plaque and lay dormant for a period of time, with potential for resurgence. Add these to the list of reasons why you don’t want to send or receive COVID-19. Not the flu, and no conclusive evidence of herd immunity.

    From the Guardian today –

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jul/12/immunity-to-covid-19-could-be-lost-in-months-uk-study-suggests

People who have recovered from Covid-19 may lose their immunity to the disease within months, according to research suggesting the virus could reinfect people year after year.

In the first longitudinal study of its kind, scientists analysed the immune response of more than 90 patients and healthcare workers at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS foundation trust and found levels of antibodies that can destroy the virus peaked about three weeks after the onset of symptoms then swiftly declined.

Blood tests revealed that while 60% of people marshalled a “potent” antibody response at the height of their battle with the virus, only 17% retained the same potency three months later. Antibody levels fell as much as 23-fold over the period. In some cases, they became undetectable.

Prof Jonathan Heeney, a virologist at the University of Cambridge, said the study confirmed a growing body of evidence that immunity to Covid-19 is short-lived. “Most importantly, it puts another nail in the coffin of the dangerous concept of herd immunity,” he said.

“I cannot underscore how important it is that the public understands that getting infected by this virus is not a good thing. Some of the public, especially the youth, have become somewhat cavalier about getting infected, thinking that they would contribute to herd immunity. Not only will they place themselves at risk, and others, by getting infected, and losing immunity, they may even put themselves at greater risk of more severe lung disease if they get infected again in the years to come.”

Read up on this and educate yourselves. Repeating and spreading “street talk” of which which you clearly have no knowledge. That is DANGEROUS!!

Just read the restrictions on several islands that have reopened. Most is a mandatory negative COVID test within 72-48 hours of boarding the flight (documentation must be shown) or testing upon arrival and a 24 hour holding period to get results. Masks mandatory in some locations in public locations And indoor public buildings and excluding beach and pool. Social distancing required around beach bars. This sounds reasonable. This was also for US travelers.

My biggest concern is with Americans coming in from Florida and Texas. The numbers there are going through the roof.

Think we should keep all Americans out until America gets its public health act together. Right now it is chaos in action because the President has lost complete focus on what is important to Americans and is not leading.

15,300 new coronavirus cases today in Florida. A new record for any state and still the Trumpite Governor continues with the happy talk while Florida hospitals are running out of hospital beds.

What world is this guy living in?

Compare how he has handled the situation in Florida with the Governors in New York and New Jersey. He should resign for gross negligence.

Well, Florida is now breaking all coronavirus records because the buffoon Governor decided to completely open up his state In May during the Memorial Day weekend.

He rejected wearing masks and social distancing for Florida.

The Governor said the science was all wrong.

I’ll pick New York. They had almost 1000 deaths A DAY at one point a few months ago! Now they’re down to 13 a day at last count. They have developed herd immunity.

There is no way Florida is going to have an exponential growth curve of Covid 19 cases. Too many Floridians have had it already. People have gotten a bit sloppy and more people are picking the virus up. Most without any or few symptoms. Thank God it does not kill young healthy people. The virus will pass here just as it has in New York.

Not necessarily 3:39. New York and New Jersey had nearly a full commitment to mask wearing and social distancing and that is more likely why the numbers are down. The Governors there showed real leadership from March.

Sweden still does not have herd immunity after 5 months and they did not wear masks or practice social distancing there. The numbers there are still not good compared with their neighboring states such as Denmark, Norway, Finland and Latvia.

    https://www.wnd.com/2020/07/4835699/

The CIG has had a plan to avoid anyone dying. Since NOT ONE Caymanian has died, one must acknowledge that it has worked so far. The problem is how to open back up. Maybe the CIG should be sending 20 something volunteers to party in Miami for a month until they test antibody positive. Then repatriate and quarantine them. Do it enough times and Cayman will have herd immunity too! That would only be slightly more expensive than the plan that has been followed. 😄
