Member of the UK Ministry of Defence team is temperature scanned at the airport

(CNS): Chief Medical Officer Dr John Lee reported on just 65 completed results for COVID-19 tests on Friday and all of them were negative, retaining Cayman’s new status of zero active cases of the virus. This brings the testing tally to 28,904 overall with 4,747 processed since the beginning of this month. Cayman is one of only 14 countries around the world with no active cases but this may be short lived.

Officials are continuing to urge people to practice prevention measures, including social distancing, hand hygiene and wearing face coverings, as there could still be some untested asymptomatic cases in the community. But with an additional 26 people going into isolation after the arrival of several flights this week, there remains the possibility of more positives.

There are currently 99 people now in isolation, most of them at government quarantine facilities. This includes the 14 members of the UK Ministry of Defence team who will be training the local defence regiment.

The ministry of defence team arrived yesterday on a Royal Air Force (RAF) Voyager aircraf along with equipment of the local reserve soldiers supplied by the UK.

“The team who are all serving UK military were all temperature tested at the airport and have now gone in to isolation,” the governor confirmed.

The two-week training course will provide the first 50 reservists with a variety of skills, including drill, medical training, defence law, navigation/map reading and survival skills.

99.9% recovery rate. Stay home if you have pre existing conditions. There is no reason for the daily updates on the number of cases.

Agree and no need for having to depend on travel time to come home as a Caymanian

Or for mask wearing – only reason we are wearing them now is because all he’ll would let loose if we were told to put them back on when Moses opens the borders for “special” people pre approved by travel time.

Is the reason No positives because the country is opening and it would look bad if the positives keep coming?

We aren’t getting any new positives because they can’t even contact people who have registered for a Covid-19 appointment! Myself and several others have been waiting for over 2 weeks to get an appointment. You call to follow up, they transfer you to different departments who have no clue and you can’t get through! It is ridiculous and HSA needs to do better.

I’ll be contacting Doctors Hospital next week to week attain an appointment. I have heard great things about their efforts and efficiency during this process.

Does the the chief medical officer know that checking ones temperature is useless? One can have covid and have regular temperature, likewise a person can have a high temperature and don’t have covid. The reality must be faced. We will be living in the same sphere with covid for the foreseeable future.

What’s the deal with the need for all these defenders team people. This Gov seriously into forming an army for Cayman. Unfortunately it was all done so hastily, that even if our young people wanted to join the window of opportunity was so short and the took place during the height of covid19. Never gave parents and young adult time to think. Hmm 🤔 does make you wonder why the great rush to form. Explains the need for 🇬🇧 air bridge 🤔

That there are still resources deployed to screen for seasonal flu systems in late July 2020, showcases our intellectual, communicative, and semi-autonomous hierarchical gaps in CIG. These erode administrative effectiveness, cost-sensitivity, and public confidence. It’s time to either get everyone on the same playbook, or trim the anti-productive fat that haven’t a clue.

And you really believe that’s the reason they are? C’mon now wake up.

So is the plan to completely stop testing? That is probably the surest way to minimize positive results – at least in the short term.

Only a goon would encourage our profligate government to rush into another one of their famously costly and badly executed plans. Glad the usual egos are subduing their natural inclination towards overconfidence and narrative fallacy – hanging back and observing for once in their lives. The Cayman Islands should not feel it’s their job to single-handedly trail blaze future air travel and tourism protocols for the planet. There are literally tens of thousands of professionals working on this.
