(CNS): The driver of a Honda car was arrested last night and a dirt bike rider is in hospital after a collision in West Bay. The crash happened at around 8pm on Hell Road close to the junction with Fountain Road, when the eastbound silver Honda and the westbound dirt bike collided. Both vehicles were badly damaged, according to an RCIPS report.

The rider sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. He remains in hospital in stable condition.

The 26-year-old man driving the Honda was unhurt but was arrested at the scene when police discovered he did not have a driver’s licence. He was arrested on suspicion of driving without being qualified and has since been bailed. The passenger in the car was warned for prosecution for permitting a person to drive without being qualified.

Police say the crash remains under investigation.

The roads have been ceded to the illegal riders, as RCIPS are afraid to confront them. They are AFRAID that an a
“accident” involving chasing them will cause injury or death. That doesn’t seem to stop them when chasing 4 wheel vehicles, now does it?

Can anyone tell me why the illegal bikes aren’t taken off the streets?

Why can I buy 5% off a local shelf, pay someone to put it on at a legal business, then get ticketed for it?

Why can I smoke tobacco and drink til I throw up yet can’t relax with medical grade weed?

Did the dirt bike rider have a license? Was the bike licensed to be used on the road?

CNS: Presumably, the police would have said if the biker and/or the bike were unlicensed.

CNS, which part of ‘dirt bike’ don’t you understand? No lights, no reg, no insurance, no inspection, no nothing?

I have a street legal “dirt bike”. “dirt bike” doesn’t always imply illegal, though I see ya there with your generalizations.

Must burn you to see me on the road.

It’s actually really funny to watch you think you’re cool. Just another small peen on a two wheeled machine.

It’s actually really funny that you think I feel the need to impress you Mr Audi with no license plates.

I ride a motorcycle for 80 MPG. Your car does a quarter of that.

Tell that to the guys with oversized trucks and huge spikes sticking out the sides. They’re the ones compensating for a lack of peen.

Do you still live with some sort of high school mentality to think that I ride a motorcycle to “look cool”, to some random person I could care less about?

My gas bill for my dual sport is $5 every two weeks. Seriously.

I have a dirt bike with knobby tires that I ride to work every day. It also has lights and indicators which makes it street legal. Needless to say, it is licensed and insured.

True, but have you ever walked around a parking lot and noticed the number of cars with expired license stickers?

The unlicensed motorcycles, despite the annoyance, is unlikely to cause personal injury or serious damage to anyone other than the rider. In just about every car accident recently, one of the drivers is uninsured. My daughter has had her car damaged three times by drivers without insurance.

I thought dirt bikes were not street legal?

The models without lights are 2 stroke. They make the noise and emit more exhaust. Their engines are made to have higher acceleration in the pit or track etc.

Street legal dirt bikes are 4 stroke, fuel efficient, quiet, and have lights/indicators. Not all motorcycle riders are idiots. Like bicycles or busses, it’s just another form of transport that improves the traffic.

More 2 wheel riders = less traffic for 4+ wheelers!
