(CNS): With another 263 COVID-19 tests carried out over the last 24 hours, all of which were negative, Chief Medical Officer Dr John Lee reported that Cayman remains free of any active cases of the coronavirus. The results also brought the jurisdiction close to 30,000 tests processed since the virus reached these islands in March.

To date, Cayman has recorded 203 positive cases, the last of which was more some 17 days ago, and has processed 29,942 PCR tests. Since the beginning of this month, 5,735 tests were carried out, with just two positive cases being discovered. One was in a person who had returned from overseas and the other was picked up in the mass screen testing programme.

Both patients have since been cleared, leaving Cayman free of active cases for one week.

Concerns that people will drop their guard because of the success were highlighted by Dr Lee Thursday. “The Cayman Islands can be proud of how well we are faring,” he said as the latest results were published. “However, we must all continue to follow prevention measures, including social distancing and frequent hand-washing, in order to keep this trend going.”

Cayman may still see positive cases shortly as a result of another significant arrival of people today on the British Airways flight, adding to those who have returned over the last week. There are currently 116 in isolation largely in government quarantine facilities.

Interesting…isn’t… how everyone for shutting down just happens to be the same people who aren’t losing their paycheck.

Look at the numbers – this isn’t a Biblical Plague that requires people to lose their businesses and livelihoods.

CNS, I don’t know if this “still no plan” poster is a troll or just has mental issues but he/she posts this every day, even in response to detailed articles about plans! maybe it just comes from some automated Russian bot, is it possible to just not publish this over and over again?

CNS: Yes. We’re all bored of it now. But no, it’s not a Russian bot.

Whoever in Govt is responsible for Cayman quarantine arrangements needs to try it themselves. Select a young civil servant with two children under the age of 6 and lock them up in a small hotel room for 19 days with the only access to fresh air being a 4×12 ft balcony. Prisoners at Northward get far better treatment than my daughter and family recd on their arrival.

That is because the ignorant fear mongers deem everyone flying in as a Covid-19 carrying murderer. The facts are utterly irrelevant. The humanity is non-existent. Same people who thought one would catch aids or get pregnant by kissing. Same ones who monitor the queers. The majority of government!

It’s not up to the Cayman Islands, or the inflated egos of our Ministers, to solve the global pandemic, or the multitude of problems that stem its rampant existence elsewhere. Give it a flippin’ rest.

We should be ever so grateful if our Governor’s office would kindly liaise with the Lt Governor of Ontario, Elizabeth Dowdeswell, and Governor General Julie Payette, to advocate for reasonable “mandatory 14-day quarantine” waivers for direct flight Canadian north bounds from the Cayman Islands – where our effective suppression measures and screen testing have led to no active and no known community COVID-19 cases for weeks. At least until such time as conditions might warrant the extra community pre-cautions again.

Multiple requests since we went past the 16K test mark and Dr Lee said they were no longer counting individuals but re-tests too for govt to separate the numbers. Whats so difficult? They didnt keep any records of individuals vs tests? Why are they not able to disclose such simple info that should be TRANSPARENT?

Lee seems caught up in the same political game as Governor and Premier. Please confirm how many people have been tested in the Cayman Islands.

So a whole month of repatriation flights in July and only 1 positive traveler – not the scenario we were lead to believe by some on here.

Doesn’t matter whether they are repeats or not. They are all still mixing in the community and can get the virus anytime. It still shows that the virus has slowed down in Cayman or even completely gone.

it is never going to be gone

the moment tourists are allowed back on the island, that’s that.

        3 to 7 k by boat
        how many thousands by air

it’s a fools folly to think ‘we will get rid if this”
it will come around every year, like the common cold or flu.

        it’s really that simple.

Why tourists? Caymanians are now leaving the island and I assuming will be returning. There are construction workers coming. Expats that left will be returning, BUT…the ONLY ones who will be bringing in Covid will be those tourists. LOL
