5G conspiracy theories make their way to LA

(CNS): With one application from a new but unidentified company to roll out a 5G network in the Cayman Islands, Premier Alden McLaughlin was fending off questions in the Legislative Assembly on Monday about social media conspiracy theories. Although there is “no credible evidence” this technology is any more harmful than previous generations, some opposition MLAs want government to undertake an independent review of 5G. When Kenneth Bryan (GTC) asked the premier, whose ministry has responsibility for the telecoms regulator, OfReg, McLaughlin confirmed that one application had been made.

In response Bryan asked if the government planned to do any health and safety checks in light of the widespread, albeit unproven, concerns about the alleged dangers and health risks posed by the technology before any permission was granted. Bryan suggested that the conspiracy theories should be considered alongside the science because of the concerns people have about elevated radiation.

But the premier pointed out that the decisions made by the regulator were based on science, and while there were many conspiracy theories on social media without any evidence to support them, Cayman would be following the guidance of the relevant international bodies that have concluded that it is safe.

Nevertheless. he said he was aware that some people in other countries have become convinced, despite the lack of scientific evidence, that 5G is unsafe.

“OfReg is guided by international standards and scientific evidence,” McLaughlin said, as he listed the relevant institutes that guide the telecommunications sector and pointed out that there was no one here that could do a better job of reviewing the safety of this technology than those specialist organisations.

However, Anthony Eden (SAV) said that there was grave concern on social media about the 5G towers and asked the premier and his staff “to make sure we know what we getting into because it’s going to be like the cell phones and radiation… When the onslaught of brain tumours start to hit, you will wonder what happened.”

But the premier pointed out that the world is full of conspiracy theories and speculation.

“We have to operate on the basis of evidence, otherwise I think we would be so paralyzed by fear, we would not do anything in this world,” he said. “The office cannot legally or legitimately deny a licence to an applicant without good cause.”

He said that unless some new scientific evidence comes to light or there is a change to the international standards, “the licence process will proceed in the usual way”.

He pointed out that the World Health Organization is conducting a report on the effects of exposure to radio frequencies, which is due out in 2022, so if or when this or any other credible report provides evidence that 5G is harmful, OfReg would respond as it is obligated to do so in law.

“But as of now there is no credible evidence available in the world that 5G poses any danger or any greater danger than any other form of electronic communication,” McLaughlin added. He said in the absence of any evidence, then the licence would be considered in line with law.

However, Opposition Leader Arden McLean raised his concern that government was inviting another telecoms operator into the market when the existing providers were not able to offer the level of coverage in line with their licences.

But the premier said that he believed that another player might provide the motivation needed to the other firms to step up their game.

The telecoms market is a mess. Current licensees have no incentive to invest in their networks. Another licensee will further reduce their incentives. The Government should rollout it own transmission/backbone network and give non-discriminatory access to other service providers. Coverage everywhere would then be guaranteed. Greater competition and lower prices for consumers would follow. And the CIG and Caymanians would benefit financially.

Why do you think you are alive? Because your heart is beating? But why is your heart beating? Because of electric current flow through your body. You are an electrical being.

If electrical current flow is steady, uninterrupted and within nature designed parameters, you are alive and healthy. Any fluctuations would cause problems, but you already know that when you get abnormal EKG or Encephalogram.

It is estimated that in 2012, the radio waves that surround our planet today is one billion times the amount that naturally reaches us from our sun!

Do you think that adding massive manmade EMF’s to our environment won’t disrupt electrophysiology of every living thing on Earth including human bodies? Do you think it might cause a massive stress response from every cell in a human body?

This is as dumbed-down as it could possibly get in an attempt to make people if not understand, but at least start thinking for themselves.

Man-made sources of electromagnetic fields that form a major part of industrialized life – electricity, microwaves and radiofrequency fields – are found at the relatively long wavelength and low frequency end of the electromagnetic spectrum and their quanta are unable to break chemical bonds, which is how the “problems” you mentioned would occur.

There are more immediate and real reasons to be concerned about a 5G vendor being kept anonymous by the government than internet theories about radiation. Start off with who wouldn’t want to be able to eavesdrop every cell phone conversation going through offshore law firms, and how much money might be available to the politicians that would facilitate being able to corner the 5G market.

The Schwan guideline for EMF in the USA was set because we could measure and perceive heat from infrared EMF’s. But these EMF’s are not representative of what we face today.

We can not truly know the problem largeness because the EPA was forced to stop measuring EMF over USA in 1979. In the USA, in 1979 there was no tech boom yet, but today there is.

Schwan guidelines of 10,000 milliwatts is based upon thermal damage from EMF’s and nothing else. It does not consider non thermal EMF radiation effects on cells. These standards remain in effect for Americans even today.

A change in electrical charge at any biologic level triggers changes throughout an organism.

The biologic effect is not the same for every person exposed, but every person is altered in some fashion unbeknownst to them.

There’s no point of any meaningful discussion here simply because of the audience‘ dogmatic thinking.

      You talk gibberish.

Yes, below is copy and paste from electromagnetism 101.

Electromagnetism can be discussed in two ways: #1 in terms of the field and #2 in terms of the radiation. The field is something that exists in space around an object that produces it. An electric field extends outward from electrically charged objects. Both magnetic and electric fields are static and unvarying. When time is introduced to them, by varying the intensity of the field, like a radio antenna, an electromagnetic field is a result. This kind of field fluctuates often and emits waves of energy that behave as massless and chargeless (photons) energies. Each energy wave consists of an electric and magnetic field at right angles to one another. The energy wave generated is traveling at right angles to both the magnetic and electric field. This gives it a 3-dimensional look when you reconstruct the view in your mind’s eye. The number of waves formed in one second is called the frequency of the EMF wave. The distance the energy travels during one oscillation is the wavelength. The higher the frequency, the shorter the wavelength is, and vice versa.

EMF’s span large frequencies. Gamma rays are very small. They are a tenth of a billionth millimeter long and vibrate at sextillions of times a second. They are related to Xrays, shortwave UV radiation is called ionizing radiation. Their photons are so powerful that they can knock out electrons from atoms and cause highly reactive ions to be formed where they should not be. The next band of EMF’s are the longer wave UV radiation and then we hit EMF we see invisible light. Infrared radiation comes next and we feel it as heat. Below the infrared spectrum is the area of EMF’s is where modern communications frequencies are found. Here, microwaves (Giga or mega Hz), and radio frequencies exist. The RF (radio frequency) spectrum is broken up into many smaller groups with names you know (UHF, VHF, and ELF). Extremely low frequency (ELF) waves are where the Schumann resonance is below 10 Hz. At 10 Hz, one wave is 18,600 miles long. The key point is, except for visible light and infrared EMF, we can not perceive any of these energies without instruments designed to find them. The problem is our brain senses them all without sensation being perceived consciously.

For 4 billion years, the energies that surrounded life were simple. There was the Schumann resonance; which essentially was a weak ELF electromagnetic field modulated by the micro-pulsations, sculpted by the solar and lunar cycles. There were random bursts of static electricity from lightning centered at 10,000 Hz and they reverberated over the entire Earth’s surface at any time. 3000-5000 of these strikes happen simultaneously. There were weak radio signals from distant stars. A light was present from our sun. UV and infrared was the most abundant form of EMF on the surface of the planet for 4 billion years. We perceive infrared EMF by sensing the heating of tissues. This heating effect is called the Schwan guideline, and it only takes in to account the thermal effects of EMF. The reason Schwan used this method initially is it was the only way to easily quantify EMF’s using temperature. That is easy to measure. If you own a microwave oven you know it too when you heat up something in it. But here is where our problem began. The biologic effects from EMF are not from the thermal release of energy. It is from the nonthermal effects. Today our current standards for technology are still based on the thermal standards alone. Schwan set it at 10,000 millivolts.

With all due respect, in the beginning, CNS was wrong on COVID-19 coverage.

So I would not call it conspiracy. I would stay neutral. There is “no credible evidence” this technology is NOT harmful.

Without evidence, a proposition can be assumed to be either true or untrue.

The absence of confirmatory evidence is mistakenly assumed to prove a proposition is untrue.

The converse error is one in which it is assumed that the lack of falsifying evidence means a proposition must be true.

For starters, internet and online media sources must not be used to prove or disprove any point related to 5G technology.

Since one can’t protect himself and his family from 24×7 5G exposure, regardless if it is harmful or not, then technology must not be implemented. People must have a choice.

With 5G, there’s little, if anything, one can do to protect himself from 5G frequencies. Even Faraday cage won’t stop 5G. Moving back to caves may be the only option.

Pharmacogenetics, the study of how people respond differently to drug therapy and vaccines based upon their genetic makeup or genes has finally accepted that people have unique responses to drugs.

The same goes for electrosensitivity- people respond differently to man-made electtromagnetic radiation/frequencies.

5G is not simply new generation of communication technology. It is a totally different animal. But Google, Facebook and alike suppress all information that contradicts 5G safety. The power behind it enormous.

Read stories of real people before calling it conspiracy.

However, Anthony Eden (SAV) said that there was grave concern on social media about the 5G towers and asked the premier and his staff “to make sure we know what we getting into because it’s going to be like the cell phones and radiation… When the onslaught of brain tumours start to hit, you will wonder what happened.”

I’ve commented this before, and I need to say it again as a Caymanian Scientist. I would put my name down but I’m a civil servant.

Radiowaves are non-ionizing radiation. The most that will happen if powerful radiowaves /5G/wifi whatever are directed at you is a slight heating of the skin. Radiowaves won’t result in brain tumors and there is no credible evidence to confirm this statement by Eden.

Skin cancer/freckles like you see on Eden is caused by ionizing radiation. UV Rays are in this category and are at a significantly higher frequency than radiowaves. When you walk outside, the Sun hits you with actual cancer-causing radiation, yet we bathe in it. Why? Your skin tans as a byproduct of repairing the damage and to prevent future occurrence.

About about 1.74 x 10^17 watts of electromagnetic radiation, including UV rays that cause cancer, are sent to Earth by the Sun every day.

Your lightbulb emits about 60 watts of energy

A cell tower emits about 10 watts of energy

A cell phone emits about 2 watts of energy

A swivel service scientist you say. What then do you know about levels of hazardous contaminants in air, soil, groundwater food that some are exposed to in Cayman? Or maybe you just can’t say or don’t know any better? Just because you’ve seen a few Youtube videos on the topic does not make one an expert in evaluating this technology. I find it amazing that people here are generally apathetic to the unseen hazards as mentioned formerly but most likely have had more exposure to other known carcinogens. Maybe you did not realise but your currently receiving 5g radiation from your modem if you have one.

A lightbulb emits higher frequency radiation at higher wattage you nut. Visible light is included in case you didn’t realize.

Didn’t get my sarcasm did you and the rest of thumbs downers? Let me put it bluntly. Your likely to die from exposure to other unseen nasties that exist in Cayman long before being done in by your own microwave oven or ISP’s modem.

Radiowaves/5G doesn’t break DNA bonds which cause cancer. However, when you casually walk outside, the sun hits you with ionizing radiation that can cause cancer. It isn’t guaranteed because you have DNA ‘machines’ such as polymerase to detect and repair damage, thankfully.

I have no stake in telecoms. My only interest is better connectivity. You’re like the people who were scared when oil lamps were phasing out for electric light. They claimed the artificial light would send us crazy.

You might try climbing up the radio tower in GT to test your hypothesis. Take some hot dogs and buns up with you, then again you might not get to enjoy them.

Read the work of Dr. Joel M. Moskowitz. Dr. Moskowitz is director of the Center for Family and Community Health in the School of Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley. He has been translating and disseminating the research on wireless radiation health effects since 2009 after he and his colleagues published a review paper that found long-term cell phone users were at greater risk of brain tumors. He is an unpaid advisor to the International EMF Scientist Appeal and Physicians for Safe Technology. Read his summary of 2019 on the issue of 5G radiation risks at https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/observations/we-have-no-reason-to-believe-5g-is-safe/

This is an opinion piece and is not endorsed by Scientific American…says it right at the bottom. It’s amazing how many people get their news from blogs and social media. If there is an issue with 5G I won’t be swayed by a blog post.

The blog is a summary. It summarizes the evidence and presents the sources of the evidence. You are clearly ignoring the evidence and stating what you find convenient to your beliefs.

Rick, This is the same Joel Moskowitz who was running around America 10 or 15 years ago telling everyone that the use of cell phones would soon result in a major increase in brain tumors.

This simply has not been true as there has been no major increase in brain tumors the past 10 years. In fact, I have so many friends who basically llive on their cell phones and still do not have brain tumours many years after using cell phones.

Another fact, your man’s 2 graduate degrees are in social psychology. Not sure that field excels in hard science related to electromagnetic waves.

All of which is irrelevant to the debate. The writer is not presenting his own evidence but the evidence from other authoritative sources. In any case, there is no scientific evidence anywhere and no one has made the scientific claim that 5G level emissions and architecture as proposed is not dangerous. People have simply made the claim stating there is no evidence that it is when in fact there is evidence; over 500 scientific papers by over 250 scientists in the appropriate fields which demonstrate evidence that there is harm from the technology as proposed.

Being “allergic” to wireless in a wireless world can be a living hell. Those people who suffer from extreme ES are unable to be or live anywhere near wireless radiation sources, suffering intolerable physical agony from them. Unfortunately, there is also a cruel campaign — led by interested parties — to deny the harmful effects of this radiation. These vested interests suggest that ES is a psychological phenomenon. This cascades into ridicule by an uninformed populace and leads to isolation and the violation of basic human and civil rights of ES sufferers. Consequently, many lose hope and some commit suicide (from wireless technology injured advocacy group site)

What a great Sherlock episode – an ES sufferer surrounds himself with iphones, wifi routers and maybe a smart TV or two and then turns them all on at the same time to commit suicide leaving no evidence as to what killed them! The plot writes itself…

You are absolutely correct! I saw it on Facebook. I double checked the information on Instagram and then triple checked it on TMZ. I even found a half dozen blog websites that swore it was true. With all those smart bloggers confirming its true, how could it not be. We need to stop 5G!

There are health risks related to 5G. The science proves this. I cannot believe CNS is stating as fact that there is no evidence of elevated health risks. Please do your research and stop misleading. Conspiracy theories aside, there are over 500 serious scientific papers evidencing risks related to 5G. See for instance this article that summarizes the issue at https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/observations/we-have-no-reason-to-believe-5g-is-safe/

There is plenty of evidence worldwide that proves 5G UNSAFE; in fact, 42 countries who have put a moratoreum on 5G until it is proven safe. Why should we further risk the health of our people gambling their lives for internet services that are not a necessity to life but a want, a greed for faster, more immediate. Isnt patience a virtue anymore. Didnt this virus prove our health a priority above all else?

Perhaps somebody should tell the good people of Sweden and Finland about this news. Those 2 countries are the most advanced in the West with this 5G technology but they don’t seem worried.

Moskowitz is totally outside of the mainstream consensus with his views similar to the 1% of climate scientists who don’t believe in global warming.

Beware of disinformation and do your research Mr. Eden.
