(CNS): Cayman Airways Limited (CAL) has said that a limited number of pets will be allowed to travel on three repatriation flights to Miami over the next month. These flights, which will leave Grand Cayman on 29 May, 5 June and 19 June, are for US citizens or those legally able to travel to or through the US. CAL said that space for pets will be allotted on a first-come, first-serve basis, and must be requested and approved at least 24 hours before travel.

I wish this could be arranged the other way. We are overseas with our pet and trying to get home to Cayman but trying to coordinate the correct paperwork at the exact right time when no flights are allowing pets in is impossible. Seems we will be stuck here for months, maybe even until the end of the year! But no family member gets left behind so we’ll stay here with our pet until he can fly back to Cayman with us 🙁

There are people without pets who can’t get back from the US as well. They’ve been told flights are full or isolation facilities are full and then today they announce that people can come back on the flight from the UK in 2 weeks when persons in the US have been waiting months to get home and there is a fight once per week for 6 weeks.

I was one of the 92 people on the flight to Canada today and there had to be about 15 dogs on board, it was just incredible just how well behaved they all were. Some of them were very large but no problems at all.

Good news. Part of the application request for a repatriation flight, should be a mandatory affidavit which attests if they have a dog or cat or not, and if yes, what provision they have made to surrender that pet to someone/somewhere for long term forever care – and/or if they would like help with that. Far too many departing permit holders seem to open their sliding doors and just wish fido and/or mittens the best of luck. We can’t be doing that with 15,000 pets. I don’t understand how anyone could do that, but it obviously happens with thousands of animals.
