COVID-19 testing at Doctors Hospital

(CNS): Chief Medical Officer Dr John Lee reported that there were no positive samples in the batch of test results for COVID-19 released on Thursday, and that all 292 tests were negative. He further noted that no new patients had presented for clinical management since the last such case on 27 April. Cayman has now tested 10,466 people, 140 of whom tested positive.

There was no COVID-19 briefing Thursday as ministers were meeting in Cabinet to outline the regulations for the new shelter-in-place order. This is expected to come into effect on Monday, when it is anticipated that more of the lockdown measures will be eased and businesses allowed to open.

In hindsight, it would have been instructional for those “exempted essential” folks to have been asked to qualify themselves by passing an HSA 5-10 question multiple choice on how to conduct themselves in public places. There are so many with no clue how to wear a mask, or how 6 feet measures out. Being an exempted employee does not disqualify those people from having to maintain minimum distance as defined by regulations. Right now, looking around, it’s kind of a joke – even among the ranks of so-called ticketing officers.

Wow, are you ever delusional. Return to normal? Normal, as you knew, ain’t coming back – ever.

Let me clarify. Time to return to the new normal as opposed to this police state. So little freedom and faith in Cayman’s population to act responsibly in an obvious global pandemic is totally undemocratic. The last time we our freedoms were taken away to this extent, we were enslaved. Admittedly no beatings, but even British soldiers are back to make sure we behave.

What have you seen that leaves you with the conclusion that all people are acting responsibly? I sure as hell haven’t seen it. Most people? Maybe. A significant amount of so-called adults I have witnessed have not been taking this seriously from the beginning. Thus, the government has to require it.

Hey, I don’t like it, and I don’t want it, but if we can’t be mature enough to sacrifice for (primarily) our elders, then what are we? A Territory solely dedicated to making money? Or do we have a cultural influence that is valuable?

So now you’re trying to place semantics to sound intelligent and defend you’re bs comment? You don’t know a flipping thing about the Spanish Flu or what happened over 100 years ago.

He knows that all the measures they introduced to limit infection had disappeared from modern society once the incidence of the virus died down. Measures like mask wearing in public, isolation, quarantine, good personal hygiene, use of disinfectants, and limitations of public gatherings. All of which were abandoned for a couple of generations, and employed again now,. So think the poster may just have a point.

              • Anonymous says:

The ‘semantics’ was you not me. The original post said nothing of the commenter living through Spanish flu. The comment was what people were saying and doing after Spanish flu and it is recorded in many historical documents. If you are going to present a counter argument, please do it from an informed position, to make a stupid comment that I know ‘nothing about Spanish flu without substantiating it, is ignorance at it’s best.

It is incredibly funny how a Google expert calls people ignorant. Anyone can do a simple key word search and find what they’re looking for. That doesn’t mean it’s accurate as there is more than enough trash on the internet. You’re too much of a moron to see that. Keep pretending to be knowledgable, Google expert. Do you also challenge doctors with that Google knowledge of yours?

CNS – is there any justifiable reason why you’re not responding to my genuine queries regarding the Government’s intentions on the scope of testing the population of Grand Cayman i.e. a percentage? Don’t I deserve the courtesy of a response?

To my first query you responded “the premier said that is not their intent” but haven’t answered my two subsequent queries as to what is, in fact, their intent. I clearly explained why I forwarded the query through your forum.

I’ve posted the third query to two of your stories on the subject. This is my fourth attempt. When is silence an answer?

CNS: I answer questions in comments when I have time, which is not always. Yours are particularly annoying as you appear to treat us like unpaid gophers. It is our job to bring the news to the people of the Cayman Islands to the best of our abilities, not to do your bidding. We are still getting a great many questions (all of which are very important to the questioner) and we choose the best ones to ask, which is not based on who is the most demanding. We may cover the scope of the testing but if we do it will be on our schedule based on factors you are not privy to. Happy?

Thumbs up to CNS. Keep up the good work. Most of us appreciate your efforts and I want to thank you for this

You are blaming CNS for not asking a question of the Premier or the government when you are perfectly capable of asking it your self.. Probably have the same outcome since Aden isn’t big on answering questions he doesnt like – responding with further questions or impugning the motives of the questioner are more up his street, hence no doubt why you want CNS to ask! However don’t take out the governments lack of transparency or intransigence on poor CNS – blame the root cause. Courtesy of a response, indeed. The only people who own you a response are the government. Ask them, and then you have a basis for complaint if they dont answer.

In hindsight it appears we should never have been locked down at all. Masks and social distancing maybe, but the lockdown was worthless. That’s why we are coming out of lockdown with more infections than when lockdowns began.

Point of fact, there were 2-3 people in the hospital until a couple weeks ago, and they had been there for weeks with COVID complications. Glad they are feeling better. Looking around, almost everything seems to be open/exempted, or behaving as though they are. It doesn’t look like name days matter anymore to the stand-down police that have all-but-disappeared. Let’s hope we all continue to be so lucky and without any new hospitalized cases, but with this disease it seems improbable for that luck to continue.
