All this ignorance and self hate is real. Most people don’t even know the facts of what transpired but jump to conclusions blaming the School system, parents and social services etc… How do you know this crime was committed by a local or a kid ? Calling out names like Scranton and rock hole as if those historically caymanian populated areas are still that way today. Take the time to learn your island, and you’ll see the true state of affairs. The problems we have imported are far greater than any that we would’ve created on our own friends.

A misguided group comprising a large number of former foreign nationals gifted Caymanian status by him, elected him. His appointment as speaker was by a number of other elected persons, some of whom have a history of violence, including against women, but who the police seem to have no interest in convicting. They all however insist in us calling them forever honorable, despite the fact that many of them are far from it.

A fair point. Some of the worst elements of our society are as a result of substantial foreign, not local, influence. Governor, when can we expect our laws to actually be enforced and for Cayman and Caymanians to be protected?

    National youth policy launched (2011)
“One Caribbean, see the future through the eyes of
our youth.”

“Youngsters cannot be left to find their own way. We want to do more than a normal government in this instance.” Premier McKeeva Bush had said [2011]

“As part of the new youth policy….Passport2Success is another initiative that has been deployed in the fight for Cayman’s youth. That programme teaches youngsters skills that will help to make them employable……V-Tech is yet another new programme that avails young people of mechanical skills and vocational training. A hospitality programme, sailing, rugby, football and boxing have also been identified as areas of interest for today’s young Caymanian. “

    How is it working?

Better for Caymanian youth than for Honduran and Jamaican youth. Impoverished under privileged masses are being imported en masse, often in breach of our laws, and we pay the price.

What is “normal” in Cayman anymore? Normal went out the window in the 80’s. I have never seen a place that was such an ideally tranquil island deteriorate so rapidly in every way. Everyone is trying to blame everyone for the demeanour of these criminals. Personally, I feel it goes back to the poor parenting. Also the huge influx of unqualified immigrants that roam the roads looking for a quick $$ buck with no intention of doing an honest days work to earn it. For such a financially secure island there were never organisations in place to deal with youngsters that had gone off the rails or parents that couldn’t cope mentally to deal with life itself, or indeed any other drama. There’s a whole host of problems on this island that has lead to the crime that we are suffering today. Social Services, Mash Team, caring for the Elderly, lack of a mental Health Team, poor Education system, Trade College etc., the list is endless!! Yes, some of these are in place now albeit run by inexperienced personnel, through no fault of their own, but it’s too little, too late. Be very careful where your next vote of Government lay people. Don’t criticise RCIPS and the U.K. officers because they are trying to do their best with the tools they have. The way crime is escalating here you need to stop being too cock sure that tourists (your bread and butter) that will always want to visit here. Because once they stop, they won’t come back and this island will slide into the sea.

Of course you can blame the RCIPS. The whole issue is directly linked to numerous acts of overt corruption that the police fail to investigate, or prosecute.

4:49 I get the impression that RCIPS are looking at the current levels of violence from a ‘black-on-black’ or, as it’s referred to in the USA, ‘NHI’ perspective.

Basically, they regard it as garbage disposal and this is nothing new, there’s one unsolved fatal shooting I remember from 2007 that definitely fits that category. But it’s a dangerous road to go down because the first time a tourist gets hit it’ll be all over the international media.

RCIPS apparently have over 300 officers. They know where the problem areas are. So why not take 100 of those officers and start kicking a few doors down?

“ …there were never organisations in place to deal with youngsters that had gone off the rails…”

Tara Rivers and Juliana are very proud of the Cayman Islands National Youth Policy they created back in 2000. “Youth are the future, show us the way.🙄

“As part of the new youth policy, a Behavioural and Education Support Team, which intervenes in situations where at risk youth are identified has been formed.” https://www.caymancompass.com/2011/10/07/national-youth-policy-launched/

“ The Ministry responsible for Youth is committed to the full implementation of this policy and intends to continue this with the CYP model of participatory policy development.” Gov.ky

Only 20yrs ago this was put in place 7.10am??? This should have been in place 50yrs ago!!! Where’s the Construction College everyone is crying for? What about all the child abuse that’s gone on over the years and was brushed under the carpet? The residents of this country could give you many more examples. This is not a third world country! Just third world people running it!!
