Megalodon tooth fossil

(CNS): A massive tooth that once belonged to a Megalodon, a giant shark that has been extinct for millions of years, has been given to the Department of Environment after it turned up at a development site on Grand Cayman. The Megalodon was the largest shark to have ever lived but it became extinct toward the end of the Pliocene Epoch, about 3.6 million years ago, as global temperatures began to cool drastically.

The more than four-inch long fossilized tooth from the Otodus megalodon, previously known as Carcharodon or Carcharocles, was found in the sand at the site last month, the DoE said in a social media post this week. The person who found it, who wanted to remain anonymous, gave the tooth to the DoE for further study, the department said.

The Megalodon, which means “large tooth”, dominated the oceans as the apex predator for some 13 million years before it became extinct. Adults grew to as much as 60 feet long, about three times the size of a great white shark, and they ate some of the biggest creatures in the oceans, including whales.

An intelligent alien race created us, and the pyramids. Watch ancient aliens on the history channel. Certainly makes more sense than the bible.

Yeah, yeah, yeah it mentions biggest shark etc, but fails to point out it also used the biggest toothbrush in marine history too.

Clearly this is a dragon’s tooth. Probably belonged to one of the two specimens aboard Noah’s ark and fell overboard when my man was drifting by these parts. More obvious confirmation that everything in the Bible is literally true.

Is Juliana O’Connor-Connelly-Conner, our honorable education minister, going to issue a statement on this? No way she lets it go by. After all, she has publicly stated in the past that evolution is a lie and the world is only 6000 years old. This tooth has to be buggin her.

A sore tooth, as it were. If confronted, these blinded Christians just start spouting the most fabulous stories. They’re like little kids that get caught with their hand in the cookie jar.
Don’t confront her. We don’t want to listen to the confabulating.

This tooth is a valuable weapon and should be given to our new Cayman Regiment to use. As we are about to come under attack from the EU, I tell you curses, sticks and prayers would not be enough. And let our divers search for a Megalodon, he is out there, the fresh tooth is evidence. Remember he found it upon the seas!

From a non religious point of view the theory of evolution is just that, a theory with no scientific proof, lots of evidence, but no proof.

CNS: This is a very basic misunderstanding of the term ‘scientific theory’ Please please please watch this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uzsuCFUQ68

CNS you keep re-cycling that, but at the end of the day the interpretation of theory by the majority is just that, a theory. Science likes to put its own spin on it to make it sound more educated. So, in order to please you, I will substitute that the ‘theory’ of evolution is a hypothesis, yet to be conclusively proven.

CNS: Then you’ve willfully chosen ignorance over knowledge, which is just sad.

Oh boy that’s an interesting sentence. Why do I get the feeling that this is the kind of person that rubs essential oils on their knees because they don’t trust doctors…

Megalodon teeth in eastern USA beaches are usually soot black from carbonation over geologic time. This is an extraordinarily well preserved artifact. Dating it would be very interesting.

Hurricane Ivan scattered and buried all sorts of household treasures. Perhaps one day they’ll find the pepperbox pistol and silver pieces of eight that were swept inland by a 50 foot wave which reduced my apartment to a concrete slab at Ocean Club.

Very cool! What a massively large tooth. I hope this ends up in a museum here someplace, rather than on some rich person’s shelf. It is, after all, part of Caymanian deep history.

With so much deception, agendas and brainwashing, this find should have been left as found and call in the experts to properly document the find in public.

This authenticity and credibility of such a hand-in find is questionable as stated. There are very few people in Cayman one can trust. Of course one cannot normally just swallow everything reported as Gospil.

6:42 Deception? brainwashing? seriously dude chill. Please do put forward some names of your experts if you know of any rather than spouting this angsty s&%t.. The DOE will be doing their research and will likely send the tooth off island to be carbon dated and properly analysed. There aren’t palaeontologists in the DOE but that doesn’t mean that they cant make some conclusions about the find. No one is brainwashing anyone. This find isn’t completely unusual. Megalodon teeth have been found in Jamaica and Cuba before. This species of extinct shark was known as a cosmopolitan species meaning it inhabited the oceans on a global scale. I found that out by reading. Maybe do a little bit yourself rather than calling everyone who works for the DOE incompetent and inept?

Nice find…..but unfortunately it will more than likely be into a cardboard box and shoved in some cabinet at DOE. I remember years ago I found a Caimans skull in perfect condition and gave it to them and that was the last of it! Been in there multiple times it’s not on any display.
