2019 in the top three hottest years on record

(CNS): With the dawn of a new decade, scientists around the world are pointed to the one we just left behind as the hottest in history, and 2019 is likely to be the second or third hottest year on record. In Australia, which is literally still on fire, 2019 was the hottest and driest year on record there, and in Russia, where they were forced to import snow for the Christmas festivities, people also experienced the hottest year since records began in 1879.

When the figures are in from around the world in the coming days, it is likely to reveal that for many countries 2019 will be one of the top three hottest and driest years since official weather records were created.

Despite the growing awareness of climate change and an increasing willingness of people to believe the scientists as they begin to experience for themselves the impact of the evident change in the global climate, the world is still not doing anywhere near enough to reverse the situation. And instead of being on track to reduce global CO2 emissions by 45% by 2030 to slow temperature rise, to the United Nations said last month that emissions are set to increase by another half percent.

Raging fires in Australia and California, typhoon Hagibis in Japan, a deadly heatwave across Europe, floods in Venice and numerous other extreme weather events may be mobilising young people and activists but world leaders were barely able to agree any action at the COP25 UN climate summit in Madrid in December.

The global warming battle plan falls painfully short of what is needed to tackle the climate crisis, as pressure from industry prevented political leaders from doing what is required.

The situation is looking increasingly hopeless as we enter the 2020’s, given that commercial profit is still taking precedence over the health of the planet.

The failure of larger economies, such as the United States, to accept the massive cuts needed and its imminent withdrawal from the Paris Climate agreement, as well as the growing appetite for more and cheaper power in densely populated countries like India and China means that by the end of this decade earth will be in dire circumstances unless there is seismic shift in our way of life.

Anchorage, Alaska broke the daily record for warmest Dec. 31, with temperatures at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport measuring 46 degrees. That broke a previous record that was set in 2018, at 44 degrees for the final day of the year.

And last week in Alaska they broke a cold record -65 so what

Yes, FoxNews is the matrix….. Of course the foaming at the mouth thought police would have issues with having a single conservative media outlet from the plethora of left wing radical outlets. Just disregard:

CNN, NBC, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, BBC, REUTERS, UPI, NPR, PBS, NYT, LAT, WAPO and just about every single newspaper and magazine publications in existence. Yes no radical leftwingism to see here…

Simply not true. I Googled temperatures in Alaska for last month and temperatures were above average. Get yourself a job with Trump. You are qualified.

That would have been news, as the Alaska record is 62.2 (degrees Celsius), set in 1971 (Wikipedia).

Extreme hot/cold fluctuations do not disprove (actual prove) global climate change. Claiming that they do just makes you look ignorant. And why attempt to make such a claim with made-up numbers?

(PS if you were working in Fahrenheit, which is what the 46/44 degrees in the OP were in, the Alaska record is -80F, so -65F isn’t that impressive.)

Climate change is here. Stop trying to obfuscate the issue.

Methane, a greenhouse gas is 28 times more potent than carbon dioxide.
The Dumps emits methane into atmosphere 24x7x365.

100% precisely correct. Which is why we should ban mangroves, the ocean floor, volcanoes and the Amazon forest which are by far some of the largest producers of methane on earth.

For what it’s worth, we can also each control our household’s global methane throughput at the grocery checkout by reducing how much meat we consume. We’ve gone to zero in 3 months. #thriving

These temperatures for Norway are very scary for January.

Old conservatives don’t care about what scientists think and prefer Trump’s genius advice instead because

    1) they think the sky fairy is in complete control and has paradise waiting for when they die and

    2) by the time Cayman is under water they’ll be long gone so why care about burning fossil fuels

I’m never sure what these year-to-year figures are supposed to prove. I was working in the Middle East in the mid-90s when we had a 14-day heatwave where temps hit 54C at a time when the norm was in the mid-40s. That Winter they had over a foot of snow in areas that rarely see heavy rain. This has never happened again. A couple of years later the area suddenly had Summer humidity levels in 50-60% range against a norm of 10-15% with thunderstorms. That’s not happened since then. Where I come from in the UK, the 2010/2011 Winter saw -16C with heavy snow. The nearest they’ve had since was 2017/18 when it dropped to -8C for a few days.

The fact is that the weather changes. While the UK was enjoying mild, wet weather with a fair amount of flooding at the end of 2019 and Russia was importing snow, areas of the North East USA (I have friends in NY State) were buried in over 3′ of snow.

I’m not saying there isn’t a problem but taking snapshot data like this, blending it together and using it to prove a point doesn’t work. The people pushing the climate change argument are clearly banging their heads against a pretty solid wall (the recent UN Summit was a farce) but this isn’t helping the argument.

“and Russia was importing snow,…” THAT IS JUST WRONG TO SAY

      because

From east to west, Russia spans eleven time zones and over 5,700 miles–the distance from St. Petersburg to Vladivostok is even longer, over 6,000 miles. From south to north, Russia spans about 40° latitude (42° to 82°), a distance of over 2,500 miles.

The rest of your comment is also wrong on many points.

The change in ocean heat content is considered to be one of the best—if not the best—way to measure climate change driven by greenhouse gases emitted by human activities. This is because the global warming is driven by the Earth’s energy imbalance due to more greenhouse gases in the air. The vast majority (more than 90 percent) of global warming heat is deposited in the world’s oceans. Also, ocean temperature is less impacted by natural fluctuations, and is a robust indicator of climate change.

I believe there can be considerable commercial profit in renewable energy technologies. We need to change the thinking that there is no money to be made in solar, wind, tidal and other types of power.

Spot on comment 1:17. If people (particularly on these islands) can see a profit in something they’ll try to cash in on it.
