(CNS) UPDATED: Police are seeking help from the public to piece together what happened to a man who was found dead outside Bananas Bar in Dolphin Plaza off Eastern Avenue in central George Town at around 3:40am on Saturday morning. A spokesperson for the RCIPS has confirmed that a homicide investigation has been opened into his death but police have not yet revealed his identity. However, they have confirmed he is a foreign national and officers are reaching out to his family overseas.

Emergency services were dispatched to the location following a report of a man being in distress. When they arrived they found the man was unresponsive. He was taken by ambulance to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said they do not yet know what happened to the man before the call was made to 911. “Circumstances surrounding this incident are still unclear and detectives are seeking the assistance of witnesses who were present and can provide an insight as to what took place,” an RCIPS spokesperson said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the George Town Police Station at 949-4222.

No CCTV or eyewitnesses or in these places? Liquor license should have been yanked long time from that venue.

I know that. It is unfortunately typical of what we are importing. Non white = Caymanian is the basis on which too many operate. It is as ignorant as it is racist.

I’m white and I absolutely agree with you – the original poster meant white, and irrespective of the racism of the comment suggesting colour that expat bars are free from violence is BS. But this is not an expat Caymanian issue – consider how many local bars have their fair share of violence and criminality, and how many Caymanians have been convicted of violent acts including murders in and around bars. Not the colour of your skin or where you hail from is the issue – it’s the mentality of the customer and the presence of alcohol, coupled with certain bars taking no measures to impose security.

Correct 3:58 and you will be considered racist for saying so even though it is true. But there has been an influx of low class Jamaicans to Cayman for many years and they are ruining the neighbourhoods they frequent and live in: loud music, garbage thrown out of cars, derelict vehicles, unwanted children all over the place. They live here like they live there. But the fact is WE are to blame because it is we Caymanians bringing them in to do the work our own lazy ass men and women won’t do.

This is the only country that caters to low lives, by allowing them to get permits. In my young days, people from certain countries were not allowed entry, because of their blood thirsty and criminal mentality. Many times they arrived on boats and were not allowed to disembark.
Our problem is government, only looking at revenue and not seeing the damaging future. Permits and status should have a bold note, ” Criminal activity, will result in cancellation or deportation”, which should keep them in check. Too many undesirables are allowed to come here and spread their dirty influences and deeds. One secures entrance and the whole bow-weevil family ifollows, that’s our Immigration.

They should do like in the states. If the police is called to your premises often you are fined heavily and if it keeps happening you lose your licence and are shut down for good. That’s what needs to happen in this place. If not this stuff will keep happening. No accountability for owners. This place is so backwards its not funny.

Sadly, it’s not just this bar that often has violence and other problems. Makes me wonder what people do for a living if they can stay up drinking until 3 and 4:00 a.m. all the time. I sure couldn’t do that, even if I wanted to.

Nothing good happens after 1:00 a.m. — at least in public.

If you do not do CPR appropriately there is no point in doing it at all. There is a big difference between actually trying to initiate resuscitation and putting on a show.
HSA needs to update their procedures and standards.

Perhaps the right thing to do would be to declare the man dead and leave him where he lay as this is a potential crime scene. Knowing when and when not to start lifesaving measures is an important aspect every trained responder should know. You have to have received to proper training though.

Are waiting for a european journalist to expose the Cayman Island’s awful newly developed underbelly and embarrass us all. Or should we seize this opportunity to remedy this problem whilst we have time remaining, whether we think we created it or not before negative international exposure signals our demise. Or internal, irreversible social decay, whichever occurs first…

What we need to dooooo… is enforce existing laws, and perhaps shore up parts of the Town and Communities Law in regard to regulating noise. Also, why in the world did the Liquor Licensing Board extend operating hours to 5:00 a.m.????????????? Why does any bar need to stay open later than 1:00 a.m. or perhaps 2:00 a.m.?? Don’t we have enough trouble on the streets??

  15. Anonymous says:

And still the liquor licensing board continues to grant places like these permission to remain open until the early hours of the morning, considering the violent individuals, gangs, and drunken brawls that frequent the premises. God forbid the small man, Cayman born and raised, plants a single seed that sprouts into a herb for medical use. It’s not ok to grow your own herbs on this Island, but it’s ok to import the poison (alcohol) that attracts the lowest scum to these bars and alcoholics who have anger management.

Time is longer than rope and this young generation is wising up up to these blatant hyprocritical rules set in motion by the corrupt in power. I say this all the time, get ready for the revolution.

Someone has political connections. These places definitely contribute to the social rot of Cayman society. But they do supply a steady and frequently renewed supply of Latina fresh meat and you can’t take that away if a politician or other corrupt, connected member of society is involved. Ahh the dark underbelly of Cayman protected and nurtured by those in power.

Because someone on the Liquor Board is obviously looking out for them. But it’s not only this establishment, others are also not complying with the law. Where was security when all of the violence was happening and eventually led to man’s death? Isn’t there Liquor Inspectors anymore to ensure that these places are compliant? When was the last time we saw one of them?
